Greenwood Leads Stacked Field Into Day 2

Day 2 of the 2015 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $100,000 Super High Roller is here. After yesterday's Day 1 say a field of 61 total entries generated (48 unique players and 13 reentries), 39 advanced. Leading the pack was Sam Greenwood with an impressive seven-figure stack of 1.073 million, and he's trailed by Mike McDonald and Andrew Robl.

With registration still open until the start of play today, the number of entries is sure to grow and continue to increase the record that has already been set. The previous record for this event was 2013's version with 47 unique players and 12 reentries for 59 total entries.

Day 1's play saw Dan Shak and Bill Perkins both fire three bullets into the prize pool, but only Perkins survived to the end of the night. Shak can still reenter for a fourth time, and if he does he'll be aiming for his fourth consecutive final table in this event.

Speaking of the man who finished in second place on the leaderboard, McDonald had a rather strenuous day, and we're not talking about poker. He was involved in two prop bets that tested his physical fitness. The first one saw him attempt to perform 300 air squats in one hour. He did that quite easily, and then spoke to Remko Rinkema about it all in the video below:

Later on in the day, McDonald was tasked to perform 350 push-ups in one hour, but he ultimately fell short of the goal when he could only pump out 323 — still an impressive number. Needless to say, he might be a little bit sore today for Day 2.

Other notables still remaining are Bryn Kenney, Erik Seidel, Jason Mercier, Jason Koon, Paul Newey, and Daniel Negreanu.

The cards are set to be in the air at 12 p.m. local time, and you can find continued coverage from the event right here on PokerNews, so stay tuned!

Erik Seidel (Day 1) - Eliminated

Erik Seidel (on the button) called a Jason Koon (small blind) three-bet to 47,000 to see a {K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Spades} flop.

Koon check-called 50,000 from Seidel, landing the {8-Spades} turn. Another check from Koon led to another bet from Seidel, this one for 100,000. Koon tanked for about 60 seconds before check-raising all in for about 275,000 effective. Seidel called all in with {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}, but was drawing dead against Koon's {7-Spades}{6-Spades}.

The {10-Clubs} river officially secured the pot for Koon.

Olivier Busquet - Eliminated
Olivier Busquet - Eliminated

Christoph Vogelsang opened to 24,000 from early position only to have Olivier Busquet three-bet all in from the next seat over for 252,000. Action folded over to Bryn Kenney who thought for a brief moment before moving all in over the top. The remaining players quickly folded back to Vogelsang who opted to kick his cards into the middle as well.

Kenney: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Busquet: {A-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

The flop fell {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, keeping Kenney's ladies in the lead. Busquet picked up outs to make a wheel with the {3-Clubs} on fourth street, but ultimately was eliminated from play after the {Q-Hearts} completed the board. With this pick up, Kenney's stack has escalated to about 1.28 million.

Lehr Eliminated by Greenwood

Keith Lehr (Day 1) - Eliminated
Keith Lehr (Day 1) - Eliminated

Andrew Robl opened to 27,000 from under the gun and it folded over to Keith Lehr who three-bet all in for 202,000. Action came around to Sam Greenwood in the small blind who went into the tank. After a bit of pondering, he announced a call. The big blind and Robl both folded, leaving the active duo to table their hands.

Lehr: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Greenwood: {A-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The flop came down {5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, keeping Lehr's tens in the lead. The board paired on fourth street with the {8-Diamonds}, meaning that Greenwood would have to pair up on the river in order to score the elimination. Unfortunately for Lehr, he did exactly that when the {a-Clubs} touched down on the felt. Lehr was eliminated from play and Greenwood boosted his stack to around 1.15 million.

Mercier's Wild Ride

Level 13 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Action folded around to Jason Mercier in the small blind and he announced that he was all in. Justin Bonomo instantly called for his own tournament life from the big blind and the cards were turned over.

Mercier: {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}
Bonomo: {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, giving Bonomo a winning two pair to double up. The stacks were counted down and it was revealed that Mercier had Bonomo covered by just a single T1,000 chip. This amounts to half of an ante, which Mercier was forced to put in the next hand. He won that pot with his {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts} besting Fedor Holz's {A-Hearts}{j-Hearts} to survive a tiny bit longer.

On the following hand, Mercier moved all in from the cutoff. Holz completed his small blind only to have Christoph Vogelsang raise from the big blind. Holz folded and Mercier tabled {Q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} against Vogelsang's {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Mercier held once again, allowing him to gain that much more footing. He folded the next three hands and then doubled once again - this time earning some chips from Bryn Kenney.

Despite this wild ride, Mercier is far from feeling comfortable. He now has about 51,000 to his name which amounts to 2.5 big blinds.
