Welcome to Day 5 of the 2018 PCA Main Event

Chip leader David Peters
Chip leader David Peters

The 2018 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event continues today as 16 players from a 582-player field return to play down to the final six.

Among those returning are two big names, albeit on opposite ends of the chip spectrum. Starting today as chip leader with a robust 3.105 million is 30-year-old David Peters.

"Everything's going very well, smooth," he said at the end of play last night. "I have a very nice chip-position so I'm able to apply some pressure. I'm feeling great. I'm loving my situation."

Peters has been playing on the live circuit for more than a decade and has amassed well over $18 million in career earnings. That said, he has yet to claim a PokerStars Main Event title. His closest attempt came just over a year ago when he finished third in the EPT13 Prague Main Event.

"I just play hand by hand, just go with the flow, not trying to look into the future, just playing my game," Peters said.

Peters holds a substantial lead over his 15 remaining opponents with a 40 big-blind gap between him and his nearest competitor Maria Lampropulos, the last woman standing, who has 2,313,000.

Sitting as the short stack is three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner and 2017 GPI Player of the Year Adrian Mateos, who will be trying to spin up 236,000. Mateos is also the EPT11 Grand Final Main Event champion. Some others sitting in between are German pro Koray Aldemir (1.42 million), Canadian superstar Shawn Buchanan (992,000), and former chip leaders Oleg Titov (488,000) and Jean Ateba (314,000)

Action is slated to get underway at Noon local time with the blinds at 10,000/20,000 with a 2,000 ante. Stay tuned as we bring you all the action and eliminations in the players' quest for the $1,081,100 first-place prize.

PokerStars TV cards-up broadcast starts at 12.30 p.m. local time. The stream is available in a wide number of languages, on desktop and mobile on PokerStars.tv, Facebook, YouTube and Twitch channels.

Buchanan Value Bets His Ace-High

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Koray Aldemir opened with a raise from the cutoff to 40,000. Shawn Buchanan called from the big blind.

The flop came down {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} and both players checked. They checked again on the {2-Spades} turn.

The river was the {8-Clubs} and Buchanan led out with a bet of 42,000. Aldemir tanked for about a minute before calling. Buchanan turned over his {A-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and that earned a muck from Aldemir, earning the pot for Buchanan with the two pair on the board and his ace kicker.

Ateba Doubles

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

From middle position, Jean Ateba opened for 45,000 with just over 270,000 back. Action folded to Christian Rudolph in the small blind and he asked to see how much Ateba had behind. When he got the answer, he moved all in. Florian Maurer in the big blind folded right away, Ateba called.

Jean Ateba: {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Christian Rudolph: {8-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The flop of {6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{5-Spades} paired up Ateba. The {7-Clubs} on the turn gave Rudolph an open-ended but he missed with the {Q-Diamonds} on the river.

Three In a Row For Jean Ateba

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Jean Ateba from Day 4
Jean Ateba from Day 4

Jean Ateba just took down three pots in a row to increase his stack.

In the first, Adalfer Morales Gamarra opened with a raise to 46,000. Jean Ateba called from the big blind.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Ateba checked to Gamarra. Gamarra put out a bet of 57,000. Ateba then check-raised to 135,000. Gamarra thought a bit, then folded.

In the second hand, Jean Ateba limped in from the small blind. Shawn Buchanan checked his option from the big blind.

Both players checked on the {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop. On the {8-Diamonds} turn, Ateba bet 30,000. Buchanan called.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and Ateba bet again, this time making it 85,000. Buchanan took one last look at his cards and folded.

In the third hand, Christian Rudolph raised to 42,000 from early position and Jean Ateba called from the button.

The players checked it down until the board showed {9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} then both checked once more. Rudolph showed {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades} but it was no good as Ateba had him beat with {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, allowing him to take down his third pot in a row and approach 1 million chips.

Koray Aldemir
Koray Aldemir

Koray Aldemir opened under the gun plus one for 44,000. He got called in two spots; Shawn Buchanan on the button and Adalfer Morales Gamarra in the big blind.

Gamarra checked to Aldemir on {K-Hearts}{J-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the German high roller continued his pre-flop aggression with a bet of 90,000. Buchanan folded, Gamarra called.

The {Q-Spades} hit the turn and Gamarra checked. Aldemir bet 185,000 with well over a million behind. Gamarra shoved all in just about right away, Aldemir called.

Koray Aldemir: {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts}
Adalfer Morales Gamarra: {9-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

Aldemir rolled his eyes, at the verge of elimination, he had just one last card where he needed the board to pair to stay alive.

The {K-Clubs} rolled off on the river and Aldemir doubled. Gamarra was left with just over 400,000.

Level 22 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

From early position, Jean Ateba raised to 42,000. Koray Aldemir defended from the big blind.
