Only 19 players out of an 822-entry strong field remain in contention after Day 2 of the 2022 Poker Dream Vietnam VND 25,000,000 (~ $1,019) Main Event at the luxury five-star Hoiana Resort & Golf near Hoi An. The money bubble burst throughout the 12 levels of 50 minutes each with dozens of players heading to the payout desk. However, the biggest slice of the VND 17,940,150,000 (~ $722,083) prize pool will be up for grabs in the grand finale on Sunday, October 23, 2022.

The two chip leaders Dinh Tien Van (3,000,000) and Tien Minh Ngo (2960,000) are separated by one big blind only while there is already a decent gap to third-placed Nam Hoang Nguyen (1,985,000). Indian poker pro Dhaval Mudgal (1,520,000) and David Erquiaga (1,100,000) reside in the top ten and especially the latter continues his hot run in 2022.

Hong Kong's Hazel Chui is the last woman standing in the field and returned to live poker after a few years absence with a deep run right away. She will return with 1,165,000 in chips, good enough for seventh place on the leaderboard. Winfred Yu (1,010,000), Day 1a chip leader Hojin Kim (815,000), and Zong Chi He (660,000) are also among the notable finalists as well.

The UK's Grant Gardner, who currently resides in Asia, reached the final three tables but bowed out in 21st place. Other notables who were sent to the payout desk during the late stages were Seung Yeol Kim, Richard Marquez, and Sanat Mehrotra.

Among the early casualties in the money were several big names who are known beyond the Asia-Pacific poker scene such as Abhinav Iyer, Chin Wei Lim, Neel Joshi, and Jack Wu. The money bubble itself also featured a WSOP bracelet winner as Kartik Ved was the last player to leave empty-handed when he ran his queens into aces.

Raiden Kan, Sung Joo Hyun, Ying Lin Chua, Mike Takayama, Super High Roller runner-up Devan Tang and recent GGPoker WSOP Online Main Event runner-up Kannapong Thanarattrakul were also among those to lose all their chips without any cash prize to show for.

Eventual chip leader Van's rise to the top of the leaderboard was cemented during the last four levels of the night. Already holding a decent stack, he knocked out several opponents including Tse Ian Lee and Win Meng Tan. On the final three tables, he then dispatched Huyen Kinh Nguyen and Jaehyun Kim in quick succession to make his claim for the overnight lead.

The final day will continue at 1pm local time with level 25 at blinds of 25,000-50,000 and a big blind ante of 50,000. With 13 contenders hovering just above or below 20 big blinds upon restart, this may prove to be a frantic yet tense affair en route to crowning a champion.

All levels will last 60 minutes each from now on and the PokerNews team will be on the floor to provide all the action from Hoi An until a winner has been determined.

In the last hand of the night on the outer tables, Thong Huy Trinh pushed all-in for around 300,000 in the small blind and Hazel Chui called from the big blind.

Thong Huy Trinh: {10-Spades}{8-Spades}
Hazel Chui: {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Neither player connected with the {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop and {7-Clubs} turn. The {k-Spades} river only improved Chui to kings and nines, sending Trinh to the payout desk in 20th place for VND 131,600,000.

Grant Gardner: {q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Minh Anh Nguyen: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The Brit got there on the {q-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop but his lead was taken away on the {a-Spades} turn. The {4-Diamonds} river was a blank and Gardner was knocked out in 21st place for VND 113,700,000.

Jaehyun Kim: {j-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Dinh Tien Van: {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

Ha Thanh Duong took a small pot off Huyen Kinh Nguyen to leave the latter with around 600,000 in the small blind. Those went in preflop and he was called by Dinh Tien Van in the big blind.

Huyen Kinh Nguyen: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Dinh Tien Van: {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}

The mighty pair remained ahead on the {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop and {7-Clubs} turn but the {a-Spades} fell on the river to eliminate Nguyen in 23rd place for VND 113,700,000.

Thai Van Nguyen pushed all-in for the last 185,000 from a middle position and was called by Hojin Kim on the button.

Thai Van Nguyen: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Hojin Kim: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

The {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop left Nguyen on the ropes but he picked up some unlikely outs with the {q-Clubs} turn. A jack was required but the {q-Diamonds} river ended his run in 24th place for VND 95,900,000.

Saquing Blown Away By Nguyen

Level 22 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Moses Saquing
Moses Saquing

The reraises were already pulled towards the middle and it remains unclear whether or not Moses Saquing was all-in for 600,000 or 810,000 but he was the player at risk against the table captain Nam Hoang Nguyen.

Moses Saquing: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Nam Hoang Nguyen: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{10-Spades} board delivered the ace right away and that was it for Saquing.

Duong Delivers Nasty Blow Against Two Nguyen's

Level 21 : Blinds 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Ha Thanh Duong
Ha Thanh Duong

Duy Hai Ngoc Nguyen raised to 45,000 and was called by Ha Thanh Duong as well as Minku Kim. Nhat Duc Nguyen then pushed all-in for 185,000 and was called by the initial raiser. Duong tanked for a long time and called with 250,000 behind which then forced out Kim.

After the {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop, Nguyen jammed and Duong snap-called.

Nhat Duc Nguyen: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Ha Thanh Duong: {5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}
Duy Hai Ngoc Nguyen: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}

One of the Nguyen's was already drawing dead while the other had one out to dodge a massive blow. There was no miracle on the {8-Spades} turn and {2-Diamonds} river and the field was cut down by one.

Dinh Tien Van
Dinh Tien Van

Only a few minutes ago, Dinh Tien Van sent Tse Ian Lee to the rail and he was also involved in the next all-in showdown on the same table as well. Win Meng Tan jammed for 230,000 from under the gun and Van opted to call in the small blind.

Win Meng Tan: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Dinh Tien Van: {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Both players had suited aces and it was Van who got there on the {9-Hearts}{6-Spades}{3-Spades} flop. Nothing changed with the {5-Spades} turn and the {8-Diamonds} river was another blank to knock out Tan.

Edgar Asehan

There was a small rail from the Philippines gathering around a corner table as two of their countrymen had their chips in the middle. Edgar Asehan was at risk for around 350,000 and covered by Moses Saquing but had the best of it.

Edgar Asehan: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Moses Saquing: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

Nothing changed on the {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop and {6-Hearts} turn but the {q-Hearts} river gave Saquing a full house.
