A Winner Will be Crowned in the 2022 Poker Dream Vietnam Super High Roller

Eng Soon Ewe sits in second place
Eng Soon Ewe sits in second place

The second ever Poker Dream Vietnam festival in South East Asia and first edition in Vietnam will crown a winner in the most expensive tournament of the entire stop. So far, the VND 230,000,000 (approx. $9,900) Super High Roller has reeled in 79 entries of which 44 players survived Day 1 and the late registration will close when the cards go back in the air at 1pm local time.

It is already the joint biggest field for the high-stakes competition in the luxury five-star Hoiana Hotel complex near Hoi An as it equaled the 79 entries of the inaugural Super High Roller in Kuala Lumpur earlier in 2022. Back then, Chi Zhang came out on top to lift the trophy for the winner shot and the Brit will be back in action today with an above-average stack.

At least VND 16,916,270,000 (∼$692,000) in prize money will be awarded today and the final payout information will be confirmed once the late registration and re-entry period for the event has concluded. All those jumping in at the very last minute will receive 500,000 in chips, good enough for 20 big blinds in level 13 at blinds of 10,000-20,000 and a big blind ante of 20,000.

Triton Poker co-founder Paul Phua leads the way with 2,149,000 narrowly ahead of fellow countryman Eng Soon Ewe (2,073,000) while WSOP bracelet winner Abhinav Iyer (2,026,000) follows in third place. Other notables in the overnight top ten are Hamish Crawshaw and Danny Tang.

De facto defending champion Chi Zhang returns with 1,077,000 in chips and knows what it takes to navigate the minefields in high-stakes competitions all over the world. Also still in contention are Shardul Parthasarathi, Chi Wei Lim, Wai Leong Chan, Winfred Yu, Wayne Heung, Vincent Huang, and Kartik Ved.

The levels will continue with a duration of 40 minutes each and there will be a break every two levels. A shot clock is in play which gives players 20 seconds to act preflop, 25 seconds on the flop and 30 seconds on the turn and river. Each time bank extension is worth 30 seconds in case the players need more time to think.

It is expected that the money bubble takes place on the final two tables and the action throughout the day will be broadcasted on the Poker Dream Facebook page. You can also follow all the updates right here on PokerNews, as the live reporting team will be on the floor until the very last showdown.

David Erquiaga
David Erquiaga

Jun Wah Yap, David Erquiaga and Jingxiang Ong were all unable to survive their last showdown. Ong ran with queens into the kings of Winfred Yu while Erquiaga three-bet jammed {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} into the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} of Quang Nang Nguyen. On a board of {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}, Erqiuaga found no fortune and quickly vanished, too.

End of the Road for Ng and Lim

Level 15 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Wai Loon Ng
Wai Loon Ng

Chi-Jen Chu raised to 60,000 and Wai Loon Ng moved all-in for 555,000- Devan Tang cold-called and Chu folded.

Wai Loon Ng: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Devan Tang: {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

"I folded eights," Chu said in the table chat. None of the pocket pairs hit on the {5-Spades}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board and that spelled the end for Ng.

Soon after, Chin Wei Lim jammed for the last 205,000 from under the gun and Chu called in the big blind.

Chin Wei Lim: {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Chi-Jen Chu: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The dominated ace was drawing dead on turn of a {j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} runout as the field dropped down further.

Danny Tang
Danny Tang

Danny Tang raised and received three callers including Hien Van Dang and Wai Leong Chan, the latter of which was in the big blind. On the {a-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop, it checked to Dang and he bet 125,000. Chan check-raised to 260,000 and Tang then reraised to 380,000 for both opponents to call.

The {5-Clubs} turn was checked to Dang who pushed for 800,000. Chan called and Tang then piled his last 845,000 in for Chan to call.

Hien Van Dang: {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Danny Tang: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
Wai Leong Chan: {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

Tang already had the check mark with his aces full and even made quads with the {a-Hearts} to drag in a very healthy pot, sending Dang out.

Nang Quang Nguyen
Nang Quang Nguyen

In a three ways pot to the {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop with some 1,000,000 in the middle, Chi-Jen Chu and Nang Quang Nguyen both checked. Danny Tang then bet 280,000 on the button and Chu folded. Nguyen had other plans and the resulting shove for more than 1.8 million was snapped off by Tang.

Nang Quang Nguyen: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Danny Tang: {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

The {j-Hearts} turn and {8-Diamonds} river brought no miracle escape for Nguyen as Tang cemented his lead by a wide margin.
