Zhang Wins Stylish Flip Against Ichinose

Level 13 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Kuang Zhen Yu
Kuang Zhen Yu

Hong Kong’s Jacky Wong opened the action with a raise from middle position and Japan’s Kosei Ichinose made the call from around the back and the action folded to small blind Kuang Zhen Yu who quickly moved all-in. Wong folded but Ichinose made the call and the cards were turned over.

Kuang Zhen Yu: {6-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Kosei Ichinose: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

The {4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} flop saw Ichinose take the lead, and he also had Yu covered and for a minute there it looked like the Chinese player was on his way out. However, poker being a game of variance means sometimes the unexpected happens and the {3-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river saw Yu hit the perfect two running cards to make a straight – a fact he celebrated with a fist pump and a cry of ‘Yesssssss!’.

Yu was rewarded for his bold squeeze play and stacked up to 353,000 while Ichinose took the hit stoically like the professional he is and dropped to 390,000.

Wei Pressures Shi, Tran Folds Out Tang

Level 13 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Players are chucking chips around like confetti at a wedding and some of the stacks are fluctuating wildly. While Korea’s Je Ho Lee still has a healthy stack he has dropped some to the rest of his table and sits at close to 1.3 million at the moment.

Another one of the big stacks, Chin Lim Wei is hovering close to what he was at the last we checked, but recently applied the pressure to tablemate Jinqiang Shi to pad out his stack a little more.

It was Shi who was the initial aggressor, making it 35,000 to go in the hi-jack and Wei was thinking things over as we arrived. The Malaysian player came to a decision and reached for the pinks (25,000 chips) and fired out a re-raise to 85,000 in total.

That was enough to get Andrew An to fold out the button and both blinds also got out of the way and the action was back on Shi, who looked unsure of what to do. Eventually, he elected not to tangle with the big stack and folded leaving Wei free to take down the pot pre-flop.

Another player whose stack is moving in the right direction is Hong Kong’s Danny Tang, who has over 1.6 million in front of him, though he passed some chips the way of Linh Tran in the following hand.

It was Tang who was the initial raiser, making it 37,000 to go from the cutoff and Tran re-raised to 90,000 from the button. Tang made the call and the flop came down {9-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts}. Tang checked it over to Tran, who fired for 70,000 and that was enough to take it down.

Pan Applies Pressure, Cong Wins

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Action folded around to small blind Yuefeng Pan and he dropped a stack of pink 25k chips in to put Tang Wei Cong to the test in the big blind. Cong looked comfortable under pressure and made the call for his tournament life for his last 187,000 in chips.

Tang Wei Cong: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Yuefeng Pan: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}

While some players were praying for an ace or ten to thin the field, the {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Hearts} run out saw Cong double to 380,000 and Pan drop down to 1.4 million.

Lee Busts One to Bring Play to the Bubble

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

We missed the bust out as were catching another hand and the unfortunate bustee left so fast we could not see who it was. However, we know that the buster was Korea’s Je Ho Lee.

The player in question moved all-in pre-flop for 1.5 big blinds with {k-Spades}{4-Spades} and was looked up by Lee, who had the chips to spare, with {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {k-}{j-}{5-}{q-}{10-} and the tournament clock has been paused as play is now hand-for-hand.

Lee Busts Toeh to Burst Bubble

Level 14 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Paul Teoh became the unfortunate bubble boy
Paul Teoh became the unfortunate bubble boy

Je Ho Lee is playing tournament executioner at the moment and it seemed fitting that the man who brought the 36 remaining players up to the bubble was also the man to pop it.

While some of the more deep-stacked players might have wished for the bubble to go on forever, the field’s short stacks can now all breath a big sigh of relief.

It was Lee who was the instigator, making it 50,000 from early position and Malaysia’s Paul Toeh defended from the big blind to take pay heads-up to a flop of {9-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Toeh checked the action over to Lee, who casually tossed out a bet of 55,000 and Teoh re-checked his cards before choosing to check-raise to 130,000 in total. Lee moved all-in as soon as Teoh’s raise was across the line and Toeh called immediately.

There was an excruciating five minute wait for Toeh to discover his fate while the hands played out on the other three tables before, finally it was showtime.

Paul Teoh: {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Je Ho Lee: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Toeh was the at-risk player but had hit top pair so just needed to fade an ace, or so he thought. The turn was a very sweaty {q-Clubs} and you just knew what was going to happen next. The {2-Clubs} river completed the Korean’s backdoor flush and guarantee the 35 remaining players an HK$50,900 payday and Lee stacked up to 2.55 million while the unlucky Toeh headed for the rail empty-handed.
