Chen Wins With the Highest Cards

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Li Wei Sun raised to 3,500 from under the gun and was called by Xiao Liang Zhao in the cutoff. Shi Gi Chen checked out their stacks and of the players in the blind. Chen then decided to three-bet to 11,800. Both Sun and Zhao called.

They all checked through the {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} board. Sun tabled {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} and Zhao saw he could beat that so he flipped over {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Chen saw he had even better and turned around {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} for the highest kicker with his ace to scoop the pot.

Gruendemann Takes Early Hit

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Mark Gruendemann
Mark Gruendemann

Day 1a chip leader Zhong Cai Peng still looks to be the current frontrunner with close to 200,000 in his stack. Peng is seated at the same table as Ireland's Mark Gruendemann, who has less chips than he started the day with after an early misadventure with {a-}{7-}.

According to Gruendemann, he opened the action pre-flop and found a customer in the neighbor Chi Fu Sze, who made the call with {9-}{9-}. An {a-}{a-}{9-} flop saw all the chips go in, but fortunately for Gruendemann, Sze didn't start the hand with all that many, stacking up to around 36,000 after the hand. Gruendemann has close to 80,000.

Peng Li raised to 3,600 from the lojack and was called by Rui Sun in the cutoff.

The flop came {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Li continued with a bet of 6,200 which Sun called.

The turn brought them the {9-Diamonds}, Li now checked. Sun bet 17,000 without any hesitation which sent Li into the tank for about three minutes. Li folded but showed the {Q-Clubs} for top pair but Sun didn't show any response while stacking up his chips.

Player Change

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The Day 2a players are about to head off on a 60-minute break, with the Day 2b players coming in. They'll play a full level and the field will combine at the end of this with both 2a and 2b runners then on the same level.

Luyckx and Lee Win Before the Break

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Bart Luyckx raised to 7,500 from mid-position and action folded to Winson Yau in the small blind who three-bet to 22,000. Luyckx responded with a shove for 42,600 in total. Yau considered his options for a while and then opted to fold. Luyckx showed {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}.

Then in the last hand, before all Day 2ab players were sent for their break, Preston Lee raised to 3,500 from the lojack and was called by Ye Wang in the cutoff and Rui Qin in the big blind.

The flop came {6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} on which they all checked through to the {J-Hearts} on the turn. Qin bet 4,500 and only Lee called.

The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds}, Qin checked and Lee bet 40,000, leaving himself behind with 31,500. Qin tanked. Qin cut out calling chips, then counted the remainder of his own stack and thought about things a bit longer. About three minutes later, Qin called. Lee tabled {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for the rivered two pair of aces and deuces. Qin threw his cards into the muck and got up from the table to go on his break.

But while he walked past Lee to make his way out of the tournament area, he asked Lee again what exactly he had. Lee confirmed his cards while calmly stacking up his chips and Qin walked away.

Zhao Busts Luo

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

The Day 2b players are now in action, but Wen Xiong Luo did not get to experience all that much of it, busting at the hands of China's Dong Zhao.

It was Zhao who was the instigator of Luo's demise, opening the action to 3,300 from middle position and picking up two callers, with small blind Ke Fei Na making the call, as well as Luo in the big blind.

It was all checks all around on the rather dry {2-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop, with Luo taking a stab for 3,400 on the {3-Spades} turn after Na checked the action over. Both Zhao and Na called to keep it three-way to the {6-Hearts} river, and this is where Luo came unstuck.

Luo moved all-in for his last 20,000 after Na checked again, with Zhao making a quick call. Na folded and Luo found out the bad news, his {2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flopped two pair had been rivered by Zhao's {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} with the latter making a straight to stack up to 120,000, while a disgruntled Luo headed for the rail.

The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{3-Clubs} for Hao's pocket aces to hold for the double-up.

Liu Doesn't Need to Show

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

He Le Liu raised to 4,100 from under the gun and was called by Timothy Yim in the big blind.

They both checked through the {K-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Spades} on the flop and the {a-Spades} on the turn to the {Q-Hearts} on the river. Yim bet 3,800 and Liu called. Yim mucked immediately and Liu picked up the pot without having to show his cards.

Yim Takes From Na

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Hong Kong's Timothy Yim has taken a bite out of Ke Fei Na's stack, though the Chinese player is still chip leader. We picked up the action on the river with 35,000 in the pot already and the community cards spread {9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{k-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

Yim was in the small blind, giving him first stab opportunity, which he took with a bet of 18,500. Na mulled it over and threw in the call, but mucked when Yim turned over {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Na dropped to 237,000 after the hand, while Yim climbed to 145,000.
