Late Registration

Although not mentioned in the original structure sheet, registration for this tournament ends at the completion of today's play.

Players are able to register once play concludes, but their entry must be entered before the ARIA tournament staff conduct the Day 2 seating draw.

Tournament Director Paul Campbell has stated that it would be wise that players look to register by the completion of level ten so there is no chance that they'll be locked out of this event, and that still would mean they wouldn't need to play a hand until Day 2, but yet still have their full 200,000 starting stack.

Steffen Sontheimer - 2017 Poker Masters Event 2 Winner

With the four preliminary events now concluded, here are how the standings sit in the race for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket heading into this Event #5: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em.

Germany's Steffen Sontheimer is in the lead with amassed winnings of $1,221,000 after winning one event, reaching four final tables, and bubbling one event. As expected, the next few players just behind Sontheimer are all event winners, while Doug Polk sits rounds out the top five after his fifth and second place finishes in the final two events.

Welcome back to the ARIA Resort & Casino, and the inaugural Poker Masters for Day 1 of Event #5 $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em.

Four $50,000 buy-in tournaments have now concluded in the past week, and with it leaves the final event of the Poker Masters series. Not only will there be millions of dollars up for grabs, but also the very elusive and stylish Poker Masters Purple Jacket™ that will be awarded to whoever finishes the Poker Masters with the most tournament winnings.

The player in the current lead heading into this final event is Germany's Steffen Sontheimer. Sontheimer final tabled Event #1 finishing in 4th place, before he would win Event #2. Unfortunately for Sontheimer, he would bubble Event #3 before capturing a 5th place finish in Event #4. Currently, Sontheimer has amassed $1,221,000 in winnings, and is prime position in the race for the Purple Masters Poker Jacket while the likes of Bryn Kenney ($1,085,000), Nick Schulman ($918,000), Brandon Adams ($819,000), and Doug Polk ($612,000) are also positioned with the best advantage heading into the final event.

There have been 39 unique entrants throughout the Poker Masters events, and with the likes of Andrew Robl, Jean-Robert Bellande, and Lauren Roberts in town playing the big game just a few feet away from where the tournament has been taking place, the chance that 40 players take part in Event #5 is a possibility. However, with these numbers being a rough estimation, whoever wins Event #5 will take the lead in the race for the Poker Masters Purple Jacket (without factoring in players with winnings already registering a Event #5 cash).

Unlike the previous four events, Event #5 will operate as a freeze-out and no re-entries are allowed. Players will begin with 200,000 in starting chips, and levels will last 60-minutes with a 10-minute break after every two levels. Day 1 will last ten levels with play expect to end at approximately 12:40 a.m. (not factoring in TV production breaks etc). Inspired by the Aria High Rollers, the tournament rules are designed to speed up play and are specifically catered to the regular high-stakes players, including:

  • Seven-handed tables
  • A single ante posted by the big blind
  • A 30-second shot clock, with three 60-second time extensions
  • Headphones and sunglasses are not allowed

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be providing continuous live updates from the tournament floor once play begins at 2:00 p.m. (PDT). It is expected that a feature table will be streamed on PokerGO, and if so, our updates will coincide with the live stream, and will not include any spoilers for those watching along on PokerGO. So stay tuned right here to PokerNews.com for updates from Event #5 as we make a run at seeing who is crowned the inaugural Poker Masters Purple Jacket winner.
