Chip leader - but for how long?
Chip leader - but for how long?
Hello once again and welcome back to the luxurious Alpine Palace Hotel and Card Casino, where the final battle for the crown of Pokernews Cup champion is about to begin. After a super, high speed Day 2 saw 24 players eliminated in just three and a half hours of play, only nine players remain of our 129 Main Event starters.

Day 2 chip leader Mark Vos remains at the top, but with several other players closing in on him it is far from over just yet. Play will resume shortly, with 18 minutes left of the 2,000/4,000/400 level.

Seat 1: Marc Naalden, Belgium -- 251,200
Seat 2: Fedor Los, Netherlands -- 286,700
Seat 3: Simon Borg, Denmark -- 75,800
Seat 4: Salvatore Cundari, Italy -- 116,800
Seat 5: Mark Vos, Australia -- 548,800
Seat 6: Runnar Lindepuu, Estonia -- 391,300
Seat 7: Joseph Buhmann, USA -- 126,300
Seat 8: Jan Hlobil, Netherlands -- 84,400
Seat 9: Farhad Kia, UK -- 74,100

De-Bagging

The players have been announced by TD Thomas Lamatsch, and as soon as they've de-bagged their chips, play will be underway.

Good Night for Los

Rumour has it that young Fedor Los, just 19 years old and playing his first major final table, may be somewhat the worse for wear after playing cash in the casino and drinking until noon today -- he's had three hours' sleep and a whole load of booze. The best of luck to him from the extremely impressed blogging team.

A Gargantuan Masterpiece

Mark Vos
Mark Vos
Words I hear often, but today it's Mark Vos who has been the recipient of this compliment. Obviously, there was a slight delay before 'shuffle up and deal' was announced, but this was due to Vos who spent a good five minutes gathering up his chips. Eventually, like a craftsman fine-tuning his work, the resident Aussie finally completed his masterpiece - albeit a gargantuan one that is reminiscent of Greg Raymer's stack in the 2004 WSOP Main Event final.

"Can we get a bigger table?" requested Farhad Kia with a smile.

First Blood

Like Rambo roaring through the jungle, Mark Vos is fearless and ready to strike at any given moment. Not surprisingly, that given moment came on the very first hand where he raised it up to 9,100 preflop and was called by Farhad Kia who defended from the big blind.

On the {8-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, Kia checked, Vos bet 12,300, and Kia called.

The {4-Clubs} turn saw a similar pattern with two key differences: Vos bet 35,000, and this time, Kia released his hand.

First blood to the Aussie.

Borg Not Terminated

The somewhat groggy Fedor Los raised under the gun, and to his immediate left Simon Borg reraised all in for 75,000. It folded around back to Los, who very quietly called.

Los: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Borg: {A-Spades} {K-Clubs}

Friends of either Borg or Los suddely gathered around the table and started shouting, "One time!" and jumping up and down.

Board: {4-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts} {9-Spades} {K-Diamonds}

Borg doubles up to 150,000.

No Flops Here

Players who have raised preflop to take down the blinds only:

- Joey Buhmann, twice in a row

- Mark Vos, under the gun

- Runnar Lindepuu, under the gun to steal a muttering Mark Vos' big blind

Breaking News

Drum roll please, maestro...

The orange 10,000 chips have been brought into play, but only several have been handed out, meaning that Mark Vos still has more chips than the Walkers' factory.
