Welcome to the Final Day of the $25,750 PokerStars Championship Bahamas High Roller

Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

With nine players remaining in the $25,750 PokerStars Championship Bahamas High Roller, Nick Petrangelo leads the way as the final table will play down to a winner with a huge 1,960,000 chips.

Yesterday's second day of the $25,750 High Roller saw big names bust out and others set a path to the final, with double High Roller winner here in the Bahamas already, Bryn Kenney, going for what would be an amazing third victory in a week. Kenney has it all to do, however, coming into play as the shortest stack with just 186,000 chips.

Kenney is not the only High Roller without the chips to play power poker at the start of the action. PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu negotiated a day where he lost a beloved family pet to reach the final nine, but he'll be hoping to gain early ground, coming into play with just 382,000. Stephen Chidwick (488,000) and Nacho Barbero (411,000) each have work to do to force themselves back into contention for the top prize in excess of $900,000.

While Petrangelo has a solid lead, he'll be taking nothing for granted, with Byron Kaverman (1,233,000), Luc Greenwood (1,170,000) and Michale Rocco (1,533,000) hot on his heels. Kaverman's run is perhaps most impressive given he has already finished third in the $100,000 Super High Roller and also enjoyed a deep run in the $5,300 Main Event. It would be fair to say he's earned some beach time he can't have seen this week.

Play resumes at 12 noon local time (6pm CET) and we'll bring you all the action and every elimination right here on PokerNews.com as we watch for who will become the latest High Roller and big winner at the PokerStars Championship Bahamas!

Chidwick and Kaverman - Power Struggle

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

A discussion about posture broke out at the $25,750 High Roller final table, with PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu complimenting Stephen Chidwick (pictured earlier in this tournament) on his posture. It's impressive to be fair, a straight back and firm pose that as Chidwick explained, didn't come naturally and actually took him a lot of work, but aids his focus.

All of that focus was needed in a brooding hand with Byron Kaverman, who is also at his second High Roller final table this week. Preflop, Chidwick made it 37,000 from under the gun and Kaverman called in the big blind was play was folded round to him.

The flop of {5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Spades} saw Chidwick bet 30,000 and Kaverman check-call. The turn of {5-Spades}, however, prompted a change of betting direction. Kaverman led out for 90,000 and Chidwick made the call. On the {9-Spades} river, Kaverman checked and so too did Chidwick.

Kaverman held {J-Hearts}{6-Hearts} but Chidwick turned over {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and he scooped a very important pot, stack-wise.

Bryn Kenney Eliminated in 9th Place ($90,380)

Bryn Kenney

A short-stacked Bryn Kenney moved all in for 141,000 from the cutoff and Nick Petrangelo called from the button. Both blinds folded and the cards were turned up.

Kenney: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Petrangelo: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

"Fair fight," Kenney said upon discovering he was drawing live. Unfortunately for him, the board ran out an unhelpful {9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}.

"There's a $300 Flip Out in 20 minutes," Daniel Negreanu joked before Kenney took his leave from the table.

The latest cash tops a great week for Kenney. It started when he placed seventh in the $100,000 Super High Roller for $275,060, and three days later won the $50,000 High Roller for $969,075. The next day he took fourth in the $2,000 Hyper Turbo Win the Button for $6,020, and a day after that won the $25,000 Shot Clock High Roller for $392,876.

Nick Petrangelo raised to 50,000 under the gun and Mark Radoja three-bet all in for around 385,000 from the small blind. Luc Greenwood folded from the big and Petrangelo snap-called.

Petrangelo: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Radoja: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

Radoja was looking for some help, but he came up empty as the board ran out a dry {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.

Stephen Chidwick Eliminated in 7th Place ($154,260)

Stephen Chidwick

Stephen Chidwick made it 40,000 and was raised to 120,000 by Michael Rocco. That was all the encouragement Chidwick needed to get his whole stack of 667,000 into the middle and Michael Rocco made the call very quickly indeed.

Michael Rocco: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Stephen Chidwick: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}

The board of {9-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} saw Chidwick depart in seventh place, just two places earlier than his Super High Roller final table appearance earlier this week.

Nacho Barbero

Nick Petrangelo raised to 60,000 from the hijack and Nacho Barbero called from the big blind. When the flop came down {j-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}, Barbero checked and Petrangelo bet 80,000. Barbero check-raised all in for right around 450,000 and Petrangelo snap-called.

Petrangelo: {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Barbero: {7-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Neither the {A-Spades} turn nor {10-Spades} river helped Barbero, and he had to settle for sixth place.

Daniel Negreanu Eliminated in 5th Place ($268,780)

Level 22 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

We have lost PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu in fifth place in the hand before the first break here in the Bahamas as the $25,750 PokerStars Championship High Roller is getting nearer and nearer a winner.

Negreanu made it 60,000 and Michael Rocco called. Nick Petrangelo raised, and that was enough for Negreanu to put it all into the middle. Petrangelo made a very quick call.

Nick Petrangelo: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}
Daniel Negreanu: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop of {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} was an absolute sweat-killer, with Negreanu sarcastically observing 'Ah, good flop for me!" and after the {3-Spades} turn and {9-Diamonds} river completed the hand, the Canadian poker legend was shaking hands. All five players left the table, but only four will return.

Byron Kaverman Eliminated in 4th Place ($335,020)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Byron Kaverman
Byron Kaverman

Luc Greenwood raised to 70,000 under the gun only to have Byron Kaverman three-bet all in for 835,000 from the small blind. Greenwood asked for an exact count, made the call, and discovered the bad news.

Greenwood: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}
Kaverman: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

Kaverman was well out in front, and he stayed there on both the {j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop and {2-Diamonds} turn. However, this is an elimination post, so you know what's coming. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {8-Hearts} river!

Greenwood hit his two outer to send Kaverman to the rail in fourth place. The final three players are now taking a short break to have a look at ICM calculations. We spoke to Byron Kaverman after his exit to discuss his incredible week at the felt.

"It's been insane, really. I've hardly seen anything of the resort, except for running on the beach."

Hang on, Kaverman ran good outside the PokerStars Championship cardroom too?

"I've run it four times this week. I felt too tired a couple of mornings, but it felt good. I just kept trying to keep my focus at the table all week and somehow it worked out. I ran super-good too, but I played OK."

To remind you of his results this trip, Kaverman finished fifth in the $100K Super High Roller event for $445,320, before hopping into the $5,300 Main Event during late registration. There he lasted until Day 4, finishing 28th for $19,000, before running to third in the $50,000 Single Re-Entry event for $452,220. He's just wrapped up his week by pushing his winnings up to over $1.2 million.

"I had a poor 2016, but this more than makes up for it. I'm just glad that I managed to hold it together throughout. I'm not really sure how."

Only behind Bryn Kenney's amazing exploits, Byron Kaverman has had the dream week at the live felt for a poker professional. He'll miss the Aussie Millions festival, not having planned to attend, but wherever he ends up next, you can be sure we'll be looking for that first big result.

Michael Rocco Eliminated in 3rd Place ($409,020)

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Michael Rocco
Michael Rocco

Michael Rocco raised to 90,000 from the button and Nick Petrangelo defended his big blind. The {3-Hearts}{a-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop saw Petrangelo check-call a bet of 75,000, and then he checked the {2-Hearts} turn.

Rocco bet 200,000, Petrangelo check-raised all in, and Rocco thought for a bit before calling off for right around 1 million total.

Petrangelo: {4-Hearts}{5-Hearts}
Rocco: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}

Petrangelo had turned the flush, which meant Rocco needed another non-ace or six heart to stay alive. The {Q-Clubs} river wasn't what he was looking for, and Rocco became the third-place finisher.

Nick Petrangelo Eliminated in 2nd Place ($740,032)

Level 27 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante
Nick Petrangelo
Nick Petrangelo

It only took a few hands of heads-up play to crown a winner.

In what would be the final hand of the tournament, Luc Greenwood raised to 200,000 on the button and Nick Petrangelo three-bet to 700,000 from the big blind. Greenwood made the call and then called a bet of 420,000 on the {k-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop.

When the {K-Spades} paired the board on the turn, Petrangelo moved all in for approximately 2.4 million and Greenwood snap-called.

Greenwood: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Petrangelo: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

"Nice turn," Petrangelo said. "I don't think I shove a different turn."

Petrangelo was in desperate need of a jack, but it wasn't meant to be as the {7-Clubs} appeared on the river instead. Thanks to the heads-up deal, Petrangelo will take home $740,032 for his performance.
