Welcome to Day 2 of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Bahamas

PokerStars Championship Bahamas
PokerStars Championship Bahamas

After two starting flights, the 2017 PokerStars Championship Bahamas has attracted 699 players. That number could go up slightly as registration is open until the start of Day 2, which will kick off at Noon local time.

For the first time in the Main Event, all players will be battling it out in the same room as the 350 returning Day 1a and 1b survivors combine for six more 75-minute levels.

James Juvancic, the Day 1b chip leader, will begin the day as the big stack with 271,800 in chips, while Andrew Ryan (224,300) is the only other player over the 200k mark. Day 1a leader James Martyn (197,400), Jan Kralik (164,900), Mattias Priolo (160,800), and PokerStars Team Pro Felipe Ramos (156,800) will also begin with big stacks.

Other returning to action include Hollywood actor Aaron Paul (74,700), 2012 PCA champ John Dibella (64,300), Mike "Timex" McDonald (54,600), Team PokerStars Pros Barry Greenstein (50,400), Fatima Moreira de Melo (44,400), Andre Akkari (23,700), Victor Ramdin (13,500), Jake Cody (19,700), Jason Mercier (92,700), Vanessa Selbst (88,000), Chris Moneymaker (65,100), Daniel Negreanu (58,2000, as well as Kevin Martin (78,400) and Jaime Staples (30,900) of Team Online. Two short stacks coming back are 2013 WSOP champ Ryan Riess (15,600) and the polarizing Will Kassouf (10,400).

Cards will be in the air in a couple of hours. We'll have official numbers, including prize pool and payout information, shortly after the start of play. While you wait, check out this video on understanding when and why to check-raise.

Kassouf Eliminated by Peukert

William Kassouf
William Kassouf

William Kassouf (pictured during what he called "a terrible day" on Day 1b) came into Day 2 of the PokerStars Championship Bahamas Main Event with "ten big blinds and a dream", but that dream is all over after he was eliminated in the first hand he played here in the Bahamas.

Kassouf moved all-in from the hijack position for his remaining 9,500 chips after passing a couple of hands, and he was called in the cut-off by Stefan Peukert, who, once the other players had folded, turned over {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

"How can you have a pair there?" asked Kassouf, declaring "eight-high like a boss!" and turning over {8-Spades}{6-Spades}. He needed a lot of help, but didn't get a thing across the board of {2-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Kassouf wished his brief Day 2 opponents the best of luck and slipped away.

Jake Cody Busts to De Silva

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Jake Cody
Jake Cody

Eugene Katchalov made it 2,000 from the cut-off and got a call from Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody on the button. However, Brazilian professional Upeshka De Silva raised to 6,400 in the small blind, and when Katchalov folded, Cody moved all-in for around 20,000 chips. De Silva called it off.

Jake Cody: {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}
Upeshka De Silva: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

The flop of {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} saw Cody already on his feet, and after the turn of {J-Spades} and river {5-Diamonds} landed, he was on his way out of the door. De Silva has gotten off to the best start possible by eliminating one of the most decorated and dangerous players at his table.

Steve O'Dwyer's Inferior Kicker Leads to His Demise

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Mamed Mamedov raised to 2,200 from the cutoff only to have a short-stacked Steve O'Dwyer three-bet jam for 13,900 from the small blind. Bulgaria's Milcho Angelov then four-bet all in over the top from the big blind, and Mamedov got out of the way.

Angelov: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
O'Dwyer: {a-Clubs}{7-Spades}

O'Dwyer had a kicker problem, and it didn't get resolved as the board ran out {q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Hearts}. Angelov chipped up to 66,000 after the hand.

Aaron Paul on The Path to Success

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Aaron Paul
Aaron Paul

There is always pressure at the poker table, but Christoph Vogelsang just experienced a little of what Aaron Paul must do on a daily basis - all eyes were on him.

The two biggest names at their table, Paul had position on Vogelsang, sitting to the German's direct left, and the star of TV's Breaking Bad and The Path among many others was down to just over starting stack at the beginning of the hand.

We joined the action on a flop of {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} with 6,500 in the middle already, and Paul made it 2,600 to see a turn. At that stage he had two opponents in the hand, but only Vogelsang called to the turn of {6-Clubs}. Vogelsang checked to Paul, who bet 5,000 this time, the German calling with the same casuality that Paul has displayed in making the bet, tossing a single blue chip into the middle.

The river of {K-Clubs} saw Vogelsang check again, and by this point the TV cameras were right on both players as they sat side by side. Aaron Paul moved all-in for his remaining 20,300. Suddenly the heat was right on Vogelsang, and he felt it.

"All the cameras..." he said, and Paul did nothing to help his opponent breathe easier, staring him down with the intensity his acting performances are so widely known for. Vogelsang took five minutes making a decision, by which point another opponent at the table, Erik Lemarquand, called the clock.

Vogelsang was in the tank, and Aaron Paul flexed his fingers as Kate Badurek announced '30 seconds'. All eyes were on Vogelsang, and with just eight seconds left on the clock, he called!

Aaron Paul turned over {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and Vogelsang nodded, mucking his hand. Paul tapped the table in appreciation of his opponent's deliberation, and as the cameras and media drifted away, turned to Vogelsang.

"That shit was long...! My God, we were surrounded." Vogelsang smiled and the two men stacked up their chips, the German still holding more than his Hollywood opponent, but not by much.

Aaron Paul Almost Flushed Away But Doubles Up

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Aaron Paul
Aaron Paul

Aaron Paul has enjoyed a rollercoaster day at the felt so far, having been at risk and involved in big pots throughout the level and a half we've played. He was in two more big pots and managed to ride them out with all the breakneck enthusiasm for danger his award-winning character Jesse Pinkman once displayed in Breaking Bad!

First, Paul made it 3,200 to go from early position preflop and was only called by Belgian PokerStars qualifier Jan Jacobs in the hijack position. The flop of {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} saw Jacobs make it 3,500 and Paul called. The turn of {J-Clubs} saw the direction of the betting change, as Paul led out for 4,000, which was called by Jacobs, but on the {Q-Clubs} river, Paul's repeat bet of 4,000 was raised to 18,000 by Jacobs. After taking his time to call, Paul called, turning over {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}. It wasn't enough, as Jacobs turned over {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for the rivered second nut flush.

"Nice! Beautiful hand," conceded Paul, who had the nut flush blocker and could consider himself a little unlucky.

In the next hand he played, Paul moved all-in over the top of Christoph Vogelsang's small blind raise to 9,000 for a total of 17,900. Vogelsang called it off with {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, but he was behind Paul's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} . The rail and Aaron Paul's supporters waited with baited breath, but their man survived across the board of {A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}{K-Hearts} and he breathed a huge sigh of relief at the hand's conclusion. Todd Peterson and Bryn Kenney Eliminated in the Same Hand

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney's Main Event lasted less than a level.

He moved all in for his last 6,500 from middle position and Diego Gomez called from the cutoff. Todd Peterson, one hand removed from doubling Taha Maruf, then three-bet to around 27,000 from the button. Both blinds folded and Gomez called to put both Kenney and Peterson at risk.

Peterson: {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}
Gomez: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Kenney: {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

The {3-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop was gin for Gomez, and he scored the double elimination after the {4-Hearts} appeared on the turn followed by the {9-Hearts} on the river.

Dawley Done For

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Jessica Dawley
Jessica Dawley

Jessica Dawley has busted out of the PokerStars Championship Bahamas Main Event here on Day 2.

Betting to 3,400 preflop from the hijack position, she got one caller to a flop of {J-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Checked to, Dawley continued for 2,800 and again got a call.

On the turn of {A-Hearts}, Dawley bet 5,300, and her opponent check-called again. However, on the {Q-Spades} river, her bet of 5,000 was check-raised all-in. Only having around 7,00 let, Dawley called and flipped over her hand of {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}, but her opponent held {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and had flopped a set. Dawley headed for the door.

Quads Versus Full House

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Andjelko Andrejevic (photo from an earlier event)
Andjelko Andrejevic (photo from an earlier event)

We just caught the showdown portion of an interesting hand, but the winner of the hand was kind enough to fill us in on the details after he was done stacking his newfound chips.

Andjelko Andrejevic, who won the 2015 ACOP High Roller back in 2015 and won a Deepstack Extravaganza event and the WPT Amsterdam in 2016, opened the button for 3,500. Brazilian player Fabio Sousa called from the big blind.

Sousa check-called 4,000 on {3-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and check-called another 6,500 on the {7-Hearts} turn before he checked a third time on the {5-Clubs} river. Andrejevic bet 18,000 and Sousa shoved for 45,000 or so. Andrejevic was quick to call with his {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} for rivered quads. Sousa just stood there aghast and open mucked his {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}.
