The penultimate day of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona €5,300 Main Event awaits and just 16 players out of a 1,682-entry strong field remain with nonother than PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari in the lead. All players on Day 5 already have €61,400 locked up, while all eyes are on the elusive golden trophy and €1,410,000 payday to the winner on Sunday August 27th 2017.

Second in chips is Brian Kaufman Esposito with 5,480,000 followed by UK's Usman Siddique with 4,650,000. In total, nine different nationalities are represented in the top 10 and 14 in total. Among those still in contention are [Removed:146] (4,065,000), Albert Daher (3,810,000), Tsugunari Toma (3,440,000), Alex Difelice (2,775,000), and Rens Feenstra (1,565,000). Day 2 chip leader Mauricio Salazar Sanchez (655,000) will return with 13 big blinds as the shortest stack among the hopefuls.

The PokerStars Championship's predecessor, the European Poker Tour only crowned one two-time champion in Victoria Coren Mitchell, but Italy's Raffaele Sorrentino might might do so in the very first season of the PokerStars Championship. After taking down the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino back in April for €466,714, he is also among the last 16 here at Casino Barcelona with a healthy stack of 3,000,000.

Sorensson Chips Up Without Showdown

Andre Akkari raised to 110,000 from the hijack and folded to Usman Siddique's three-bet of 310,000.

The next hand, Akkari raised to 110,000 again and was called by Tsugunari Toma in the hijack and Sebastian Sorensson on the button. The flop fell {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and Akkari checked, Toma bet 150,000 and Sorensson min-raised to 300,000. That got Akkari to fold but Toma called.

After the {7-Diamonds} turn, Toma checked and Sorensson claimed the pot with a bet of 500,000.

Chop It Up!

Rens Feenstra opened the cutoff for 110,000 and big blind Mauricio Salazar Sanchez stared intensely for about 3 minutes before he called. Sanchez checked on {A-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Feenstra bet 80,000.

Sanchez tanked again and eventually shoved all in for about 525,000. Feenstra called with {A-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and was behind against the {A-Clubs}{10-Spades} of Sanchez. The {Q-Clubs} on the turn and {8-Clubs} on the river made for a split, however, and the 2 got equal shares of the pot.

In the third hand over on the feature table, Yaron Zeev Malki limped in from the small blind and Albert Daher raised to 200,000 in the big blind. Malki moved all in for almost 1.5 million and Daher called.

Yaron Zeev Malki: {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Albert Daher: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Malki was eliminated in 16th place for €61,400. All remaining 15 players are guaranteed at least €69,600

Toma Takes Big Pot Off Akkari

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

Andre Akkari raised to 125,000 from under the gun and Tsugunari Toma three-bet to 400,000 from one seat over, which Akkari called. The flop fell {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and both players checked.

After the {K-Hearts} turn, Akkari checked and called a bet worth 375,000 by Toma before checking again the {A-Spades} on the river. Toma cut out a bet worth 1.1 million and Akkari quickly called to see Toma fist pump and turn over {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs} for a flopped set. Akkari showed his {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} for two pair and dropped below Toma in chips, while Albert Daher has taken over the lead.

Andrew Hedley Eliminated in 15th Place (€69,600)

Sebastian Sorensson limped in from under the gun and Andrew Hedley moved all in for 860,000 from the cutoff. Usman Siddique in the big blind gave it some thought and folded while Sorensson called.

Andrew Hedley: {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Sebastian Sorensson: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

After the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, the Scotsman asked for the {9-Spades} or {8-Spades} to increase his outs and did get a glimpse of hope on the {4-Spades} turn. However, the {8-Clubs} river was a blank and Hedley left the feature table with a smile, €69,600 richer.

All Big Stacks on the Feature Table

Level 27 : 30,000/60,000, 10,000 ante

With two eliminations on the feature table, the next big blind was moved over to the feature table and that happened to be Brian Kaufman Esposito, who is the chip leader right now. The feature table has 34 million chips in play, while the outer table has less than 16 million combined and barely saw any action past a flop so far.

Andre Akkari raised to 125,000 from the cutoff and Sebastian Sorensson called from the big blind. On the {Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop, the Swede checked and folded to a bet of Akkari.

The next hand, Akkari raised to 125,000 from the hijack and Sorensson three-bet the small blind to 330,000 in order to force a fold.
