Who Will Reach the Final Table of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona Main Event?

Raffaele Sorrentino aims for another PSC title in 2017
Raffaele Sorrentino aims for another PSC title in 2017

The penultimate day of the 2017 PokerStars Championship Barcelona €5,300 Main Event awaits and just 16 players out of a 1,682-entry strong field remain with nonother than PokerStars Team Pro Andre Akkari in the lead. All players on Day 5 already have €61,400 locked up, while all eyes are on the elusive golden trophy and €1,410,000 payday to the winner on Sunday August 27th 2017.

Second in chips is Brian Kaufman Esposito with 5,480,000 followed by UK's Usman Siddique with 4,650,000. In total, nine different nationalities are represented in the top 10 and 14 in total. Among those still in contention are [Removed:146] (4,065,000), Albert Daher (3,810,000), Tsugunari Toma (3,440,000), Alex Difelice (2,775,000), and Rens Feenstra (1,565,000). Day 2 chip leader Mauricio Salazar Sanchez (655,000) will return with 13 big blinds as the shortest stack among the hopefuls.

The PokerStars Championship's predecessor, the European Poker Tour only crowned one two-time champion in Victoria Coren Mitchell, but Italy's Raffaele Sorrentino might might do so in the very first season of the PokerStars Championship. After taking down the PokerStars Championship presented by Monte-Carlo Casino back in April for €466,714, he is also among the last 16 here at Casino Barcelona with a healthy stack of 3,000,000.

In the third hand over on the feature table, Yaron Zeev Malki limped in from the small blind and Albert Daher raised to 200,000 in the big blind. Malki moved all in for almost 1.5 million and Daher called.

Yaron Zeev Malki: {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Albert Daher: {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{K-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Malki was eliminated in 16th place for €61,400. All remaining 15 players are guaranteed at least €69,600

Sebastian Sorensson limped in from under the gun and Andrew Hedley moved all in for 860,000 from the cutoff. Usman Siddique in the big blind gave it some thought and folded while Sorensson called.

Andrew Hedley: {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Sebastian Sorensson: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}

After the {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Spades} flop, the Scotsman asked for the {9-Spades} or {8-Spades} to increase his outs and did get a glimpse of hope on the {4-Spades} turn. However, the {8-Clubs} river was a blank and Hedley left the feature table with a smile, €69,600 richer.

Mauricio Salazar Sanchez

Action folded to Alex Difelice on the button and he opened for 120,000. The small blind gave up rather quickly but big blind Mauricio Salazar Sanchez had bigger plans. Just like the hand before, he shoved all in, this time for 570,000 total.

Difelice tanked for a bit before he called.

Mauricio Salazar Sanchez: {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Alex Difelice: {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} and Sanchez hit the rail in 14th place. The remaining 13 players are now guaranteed €77,800.

Rens Feenstra

[Removed:146] opened under the gun for 130,000 and his neighbor Rens Feenstra shoved for 1,025,000. Action folded around to the blinds who both contemplated their options for a bit before folding. Guerfi called.

Rens Feenstra: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
[Removed:146]: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}

The {2-Hearts}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts} did nothing for Feenstra and he asked for the jack of spades to hit the river. The dealer/poker gods didn't oblige as the {10-Diamonds} hit.

The {5-Clubs} on the river was a blank and Feenstra was designated to a spot on the rail from here on out.

Royal Flush for Difelice!

Royal flush for Alex Difelice
Royal flush for Alex Difelice

Donald Duarte Sierra opened to 135,000 under the gun plus one and Alex Difelice in the big blind was the only caller.

The flop of {7-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} was checked by Difelice and Sierra bet 170,000. Difelice called and check-called another 225,000 on the {K-Diamonds} turn.

The river {5-Spades} saw Difelice check again. Sierra checked behind and Difelice revealed {10-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} with a big smile. Royal flush for Difelice, Sierra silently mucked.

Lachezar Plamenov Petkov

Tsugunari Toma opened the hijack to 185,000, the 3rd hand in a row he got involved in, having won the previous 2. Raffaele Sorrentino called from the button before big blind Lachezar Plamenov Petkov squeezed to 725,000.

"How much you have?" Toma asked.

"2.8 behind" Petkov answered.

"Ok, I'm all in!" Toma said.

Sorrentino folded, Petkov called.

Lachezar Plamenov Petkov: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}
Tsugunari Toma: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Petkov scored a huge double. He had 3,860,000 total and got that from Toma who was left with just over 1 million.

Tsugunari Toma, short since doubling up Petkov with tens to queens, made his last move from early position. He shoved for his last 905,000 and big blind Lachezar Plamenov Petkov looked him up once again.

Tsugunari Toma: {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Lachezar Plamenov Petkov: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

The flop of {8-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Spades} and the {3-Diamonds} turn were still good cards for Tima but the {K-Spades} on the river did him in.

Toma takes home €77,800 for his deep run, the remaining 11 players are now guaranteed €87,100.

Donald Duarte Sierra Eliminated in 11th Place (€87,100)

Donald Duarte

Raffaele Sorrentino opened the action with a raise to 180,000 from the cutoff and Donald Duarte Sierra moved all in from the button. "How much is it?" Sorrentino asked and then called when it was deemed to be for 1,485,000.

Donald Duarte Sierra: {A-Spades}{7-Spades}
Raffaele Sorrentino: {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

The {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop took away outs for Duarte, and he was left drawing dead on the {9-Diamonds} turn. This made the {A-Diamonds} river a formality and Duarte exited in 11th place for €87,100.

After the next elimination, the remaining nine players will combine for the unofficial final table.

Raffaele Sorrentino opened under the gun for 255,000 and the cutoff and button were quick to fold. Small blind Aeragan Arunan wasn't going away so easy and instead 3-bet to 725,000. Big blind Alex Difelice asked how much it was and shoved over the top for 1,450,000 total.

Sorrentino threw away his cards instantly but Arunan called just as quick.

Alex Difelice: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Aeragan Arunan: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}

The board would bring no help to Difelice as it came {8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}.

Difelice takes home €87,100 for his deep run while the remaining 9 players are in the midst of a redraw for the unofficial final table of 9. With Difelice's departure, the remaining players are guaranteed €104,000.
