Michaelis Stays Top Dog, PokerStars Pros Moreira de Melo and Horecki Remain in Prague Main Event Hunt

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Paul Michaelis
Paul Michaelis

Paul Michaelis had to be rightfully hopeful for a good Day 3 of PokerStars Championship Prague Main Event considering he came in as chip leader, but he's likely positively thrilled with his performance after he finished in the top spot once again.

The young German bracelet winner wrapped up a profitable five-level grind with 1,270,000 in chips, giving him the lead among the remaining 49 players who will see Day 4's dawn.

Michaelis maintained his spot despite some late adversity, with opponents playing back at him and hitting him with coolers for doubles. There simply wasn't anyone close enough to challenge him.

Still, Michaelis' run isn't the only notable storyline among the final 49.

For one thing, PokerStars Team Pros Fatima Moreira de Melo and Marcin Horecki remain in the hunt. Moreira de Melo in particular had a fantastic and eventful Day 3. In an indication of how hot she'd run, she won an early all-in pot with ace-king suited against ace-king offsuit, flopping her foe dead.

Then, she won two separate three-way all ins. The first time, ace-king suited was good to her again as she outran queens and nines by flopping an ace and holding. The second time, she sent experienced foes James Akenhead and Martin Staszko to the rail when queens held against ace-queen and ace-ten.

Moreira de Melo finished with 723,000 while her teammate Horecki finished with 450,000.

Fresh off a second-place finish for over $1.1 million in WPT Five Diamond at Bellagio, Alex Foxen is also looking to continue a breakout 2017. He flew over for Day 1b right after the big score, fought off jet lag to make it through the first two days, and appears to be hitting his stride now and looking like a player to watch closely. He bagged up 761,000.

Also of import on Day 3 was the money bubble bursting. Although it took longer than expected as a number of all-in players survived, eventually someone had to go home empty-handed — except the bubbling players actually didn't since they received hefty promotional packages worth $30,000 courtesy of PokerStars.

Some of those who cashed on Day 3 included PokerStars Team Pros Jake Cody and Igor Kurganov, as well as Nick Maimone, Asi Moshe, Georgios Zisimopoulos, Ali Reza Fatehi, and pro racing driver Dani Juncadella.

Day 4 plays out starting at noon on Saturday and should feature an identical format to Day 3, except with heftier blinds starting at 6,000/12,000/2,000. Be sure to tune back in to PokerNews for more live updates.

Level 19 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Wheeler
Jason Wheeler

Yuliyan Kolev opened under the gun for 22,000 and Aleksandr Orlov two positions down shoved for 121,000. The action folded to Jason Wheeler in the big blind who asked how much it was and then studied Kolev. Wheeler eventually announced all in, Kolev snap called for 260,000 total.

Yuliyan Kolev: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}
Aleksandr Orlov: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}
Jason Wheeler: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Wheeler knocked out two opponents in one hand. As the table was getting broken, he racked up 930,000.

Orlov Falls Asleep Again, Wakes Up With Kings This Time

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Aleksandr Orlov
Aleksandr Orlov

A couple hands after shoving while just waking up on the table, Aleksandr Orlov pulled the same stunt again. This time, the dealer again had to wake him and he raised to 20,000. Big blind Jason Wheeler called.

Wheeler checked on {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Orlov pushed for 71,000. Wheeler called with {J-Spades}{4-Spades} and found out soon enough that he was trailing: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} for Orlov.

The {7-Hearts} on the turn sealed it for Orlov and the {9-Spades} on the river was there just for good measures.

Dermot Blain was really laughing now, though he apologized to Wheeler as the latter had just lost a sizable pot.

"No, no, it's good," Wheeler said with somewhat of a wry smile.

"Waking Up With Aces!"

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Aleksandr Orlov
Aleksandr Orlov

Aleksandr Orlov was seated under the gun but wasn't doing much when the dealer was done pitching cards. Staring from behind reflective shades and with his AirPods in, people wondered if he was maybe just not paying attention.

The dealer eventually asked him to make a move, and that's when the table found out Orlov was asleep. He woke up with a start, glanced at his cards, and moved in for 80,000.

The table was in stitches and Dermot Blain, sitting right behind him, shrugged when he folded, later telling the table he had ace-jack.

"I hope I don't find ace-queen here," one player said, convinced Orlov must've had a big hand when he woke up and instantly shoved.

The action folded around and Orlov won the pot.

"Show it!" the players said.

Orlov showed the {A-Diamonds} while he raked in the pot and started stacking.

"Waking up with aces!" one player jokingly said.

Orlov was the big blind the next hand, we're unsure if he stayed awake for that one.

James Akenhead
James Akenhead

James Akenhead shoved all in for 116,000 in the hijack and Martin Staszko reshipped in the cutoff for 215,000. Fatima Moreira de Melo woke up with another jam on the button.

Akenhead: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Staszko: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}
Moreira de Melo: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Moreira de Melo had found a fantastic spot in another three-way all in. She got a sweat on the flop when her opponents flopped gutters but the {5-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Spades} board was ultimately safe for her.

Markus Durnegger
Markus Durnegger

After an under the gun raise to 16,000 and a call in middle position, Matas Cimbolas on the button squeezed to 58,000. Markus Durnegger, in the small blind, raised to 100,000 with just 16,000 behind. The big blind, original raiser, and caller all folded. Cimbolas called and called blind the rest of the 16,000 as well.

Matas Cimbolas: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Markus Durnegger: {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{K-Clubs} and Durnegger hit the rail.

Moreira de Melo Wins Massive Three-Way All in

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Fatima Moreira De Melo
Fatima Moreira De Melo

Three players were all in preflop on the featured table: Fatima Moreira de Melo for 277,000, Arnaud Enselme for 140,000 and Aleksandr Mordvinov covering both of his opponents.

Mordvinov: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Moreira de Melo: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Arnaud Enselme: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Moreira de Melo paired up on the {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop. The {5-Diamonds} turn brought a flush draw for Enselme, so the PokerStars Team Pro was sweating a bunch of rivers, but the {2-Spades} was safe for her.

James Mitchell
James Mitchell

When we arrived, the chips were already in and Michel Dattani was already getting up. When the hand was done, James Mitchell told us what had happened.

Mitchell opened the button and big blind Dattani called.

The flop came {Q-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Dattani check-called Mitchell's continuation bet.

Dattani checked again on the {10-Spades} turn and Mitchell bet again. Dattani shoved all in and Mitchell had the easy call.

Michel Dattani: {Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
James Mitchell: {4-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

The river {6-Spades} was inconsequential and Dattani said his goodbyes.

Igor Kurganov was seen standing on the rail with his girlfriend Liv Boeree, and was kind enough to tell us some details of his bust out shortly before.

Kurganov shoved for his last 24,000 with {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and found chip leader Paul Michaelis isolating to 43,000. All other players folded and Michaelis showed {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

Kurganov found no four or other help and the Team Pro exited the tournament area.
