The two opening flights of the PokerStars Festival Chile $500,000 guaranteed Main Event have come to a close. Argentina's Jorge Teodoulou leads at the end of this second flight, bagging a total of 247,700 chips. His finish today makes him the overall chip leader going into Day 2 tomorrow!
Juan Sebastian Gomez is close behind with 237,700 chips, and Joaquin Earcena rounds out the top three stacks with 154,200 after a strong push towards the end of the day. The official number of entries today was 190, with 66 players moving on to Day 2 tomorrow. Both starting flights made a combined 329 entries, keeping the prizepool at an even $500,000. The final numbers will be confirmed overnight and payouts will be posted tomorrow.
Team PokerStars Pro, Leo Fernandez, has fired a few bullets in this event, but managed to bag a healthy stack of 152,900 going into the day tomorrow. He took down the High Roller event just yesterday, and is in the hunt for back-to-back titles to add to his decorated resume with over $2 million in earnings.
Some of the other notable players who found a bag today included Javier Swett (60,500), Joaquin Earcena (154,200), Jorge Postigo (36,700), Roberto Andres Finkelberg (39,500), Sanjay Sahijwani (76,500), and Amos Ben (82,900).
The day began with about 30 players, and quickly grew as play went on. Fabian Chauriye sat down early on, with the hopes of finally winning a championship in his home country after finishing as runner-up last year, but he had a visibly frustrating day and was eliminated late in the day. Two-time LAPT champion and high roller, Oscar Alache, fired at least two bullets on each starting day, but was unable to find a bag. As is his demeanor, he still left the tournament area with a smile on his face and will most certainly take a shot at the next series.
Chip leader, Teodoulou, got off to a hot start early in the day, and eventually built himself a mountain of chips. He was battling with table mate Ezequiel Waigel and got him to put it in with a draw against his two pair. The river bricked out, and Teodoulou eliminated him to pull himself away from the rest of the pack.
Crishtofer Cancino was another highlight of the day. He may have only bagged 47,000 in chips, but he kept the entire room entertained by yelling, "Vamooooooo!" every time he won a pot. He found himself short several times but found a double up whenever he needed it. Fist pumps and happy exclamations are sure to be going around while he remains in this tournament.
Day 2 begins tomorrow at noon, and with registration closed, the action is going to get to a whole new level. A little more than a hundred players will move on, and play will conlcude tomorrow either at the end of ten levels or once 24 players remain. Day 3 will resume on Friday at noon and will play down to the final eight, with Day 4 firing up on Saturday at noon to play down to a winner.
Keep following along as PokerNews continues to post all of the live updates on the way to finding a champion.
