Antti Halme raised to 65,000 on the button and Tien Than Nguyen called from the small blind, as did Jaehyun Lim in the big blind. On a flop of , Nguyen bet 100,000 and that won the pot uncontested.
From under the gun, Hoa Thinh Nguyen raised to 65,000 and Yo Seb Rhee called in the small blind. Uday Bansal three-bet to 215,000 out of the big blind and that forced out Nguyen. Rhee however had other plans and clicked it back up to 600,000 with around 1,200,000 behind.
Bansal moved all in and that sent Rhee into the think tank. Ultimately, the Japanese called and the cards in the showdown triggered gasps from the other players and the rail.
Yo Seb Rhee:
Uday Bansal:
The flop improved Bansal to a pair of kings, while Rhee picked up some outs with the turn. All hearts except for the and any ace would do, but the river bricked off to send Rhee to the rail in 12th place for PHP322,000.
Michael Falcon made it 60,000 to go from middle position and Antti Halme made the call from the big blind to take play heads-up to a flop of .
Halme check-called an 80,000 Falcon continuation bet and both players checked the turn before Falcon fired for 150,000 on the river. Halme thought it over and slid in the call and Falcon turned over for a missed open ended straight draw and rivered top pair and his Finnish opponent tapped the table and mucked.
There are no friends at the poker tables, a fact that Duc Nguyen has recently discovered, to his cost. It was Nguyen’s fellow countryman Hoa Thinh Nguyen (no relation) who kicked off proceedings by moving all-in from middle position. Big blind Duc Nguyen squeezed his cards and then made the call.
Duc Nguyen:
Hoa Thinh Nguyen:
With no spade in hand and his tournament life on the line the all black flop was not a good one for Duc Nguyen, while the turn doubled his outs with the seven of spades not being good for a full house.
There was no miracle, however, as the hit the river and brought Duc Nguyen’s Main Event to a close and he departed in 11th place taking home the equivalent of $6,399 while Hoa Thinh Nguyen stacked up to1,525,000.
Michael Falcon was moved over to table one to balance the tables and immediately made an impact. He called a raise by Hoa Thinh Nguyen for 65,000 and then bet out of the big blind after a flop of for 100,000. Nguyen folded and the pot was shipped to Falcon.
Falcon also raised to 150,000 from the small blind the next hand before scooping a pot post flop against Andre Peters. After that, he had a glance at his big stack in the PokerStars Cup, which is down to 11 players. Falcon is right there with an above-average stack, too ... .
Tien Than Nguyen raised to 65,000 and Antti Halme defended his big blind. The Finn bet the flop for 80,000 and Nguyen raised to 200,000 with 260,000 behind. Halme gave it some consideration and folded.
Hoa Thinh Nguyen raised to 70,000 first to act and faced a three-bet to 170,000 by Uday Bansal in the big blind, which Nguyen called. On a flop of , Bansal continued for 225,000 and Nguyen min-raised it up to 550,000.
Bansal moved all in after just brief consideration and Nguyen was sent into the think tank. Michael Falcon, who was playing a few hands over in the PokerStars Cup while this was going on, came back to check the action and eventually called the clock on Nguyen. The player from Vietnam was given another one minute of grace period before the clock went into effect, and Bansal also pledged that his opponent didn't have enough time just yet.
Eventually the one minute clock ticked in and Nguyen folded with less than eight seconds to go, dropping to just 20 big blinds.
Michael Falcon opened the action with a raise to 75,000 from the cutoff and Usay Bansal made the call from the button with big blind Andre Peters choosing to come along for the ride from the big blind.
All three players checked the flop and the came in on the turn. After Peters checked for the second time Falcon took a stab at the pot for 125,000 with Bansal the only caller.
The river double paired the board and saw Falcon fire again, this time for 350,000 and Bansal made a quick call. The Dane turned over and seemed surprised not to get a chop when Bansal rolled over to take the pot down with a higher two pair.
In a battle of the blinds, Hoa Thinh Nguyen was the player at risk out of the big blind for his last 425,000 and Uday Bansal had him well covered in a coin flip.
Hoa Thinh Nguyen:
Uday Bansal:
The provided the necessary help for the player from Vietnam while Bansal dropped some chips of his big stack.
