Chip leader Julio Arocena
Chip leader Julio Arocena

Just 24 players remain out of the 261 entries in the first-ever PokerStars Festival Uruguay Main Event at the Conrad Hotel & Casino in Punta del Este. While all remaining players are guaranteed to cash for at least $3,340, each one of them has their eyes fixed on the top prize of $76,155 and the championship trophy.

At the head of the pack is Julio Arocena who bagged a stack of 566,000 chips at the conclusion of Day 2 play, and not far behind him is Argentinian Julio Belluscio with 511,000. The only other player to bag a stack in excess of half a million chips was PokerStars Cup Uruguay winner Gustavo Prato, who will take a stack of 507,000 chips out of the bag when play resumes. Accomplished Argentinian player Francisco Araujo is still in the hunt, as well, with a very healthy stack of 410,000, which is well above the current 271,875-chip average.

The remainder of the field is scheduled to play down to eight players on Day 3 with the eventual champion being determined on Day 4. The clock will restart with just over half an hour remaining in level 17. There will be a 20-minute break every two levels and an 80-minute dinner break after six full levels of play. The seat draw for the day's action is as follows:

Araujo Takes Fires A Big River Bet

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Francisco Araujo opened with a raise from early position, making it 14,000 to go. Action folded around where Juan Perez called from the big blind.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} and both players checked to see the {9-Hearts} on the turn. Perez checked again and Araujo decided to put out a bet worth 11,000. Perez called.

The river was the {3-Spades} and Perez checked one more time. This time Araujo put out another bet, a pot sized bet of 51,000. Perez thought for a while then decided to call. Araujo showed {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for trip nines and it was good to take down the pot as Perez tapped the table and mucked.

Piazza Doubles Through Prato

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Roberto Piazza
Roberto Piazza

Roberto Piazza raised to 12,000 from under the gun and Gustavo Prato, who was next to act, three-bet to 40,000. Action folded back around to Piazza and after a bit of thought, he called.

The flop came {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Piazza bet 60,000. Prato called.

The {8-Spades} fell on the turn and Piazza shoved for 107,000. Prato called and the two players tabled their hands.

Piazza: {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Prato: {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}

Piazza was way ahead with his flopped set of sixes and Prato needed to spike a jack in order to win the pot. The {7-Clubs} river changed nothing and Piazza doubled up.

Panta Finds Value With Aces

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Alfredo Panta opened from middle position with a raise to 14,000. Francisco Araujo was his only caller on the button.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts} and both players checked to the {2-Hearts} on the turn. There Panta led out with a bet of 21,000. Araujo thought for about a minute then raised to 63,000. Panta called after some thought.

The river was the {6-Clubs} and Panta checked over to Araujo who rapped the table with his knuckles, checked back. Panta showed {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} and it was good to take down the pot as Araujo mucked.

Naves Doubles Through Prato Leaving Him Short

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Gustavo Prato opened with a raise to 22,000 from early position. Action folded around where Osvaldo Naves moved all in from the big blind for 75,000 total. Prato thought for about 15 seconds then announced a call.

Naves: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Prato: {J-Hearts}{10-Spades}

The flop was dangerous when it came {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{6-Spades} giving Prato a flush draw but top pair to Naves. Fortunately for him the turn and river bricked out when the {3-Clubs} and the {Q-Hearts} fell, allowing Naves to double up.
