2014 PokerStars King's Cup Rozvadov: Thomas Fabian Leads Day 1b Field

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Thomas Fabian
Thomas Fabian

A huge 337 players ended up entering on Day 1b in the form of 315 unique entries and 22 re-entries. With the field almost three times the size of Day 1a, the casualties flooded in throughout the day and with stack sizes swinging up and down like a yo-yo expert displaying their expertise, it wasn't until literally the very end of play that a clear chip leader was found.

That person is Thomas Fabian. The German knocked out two players with pocket tens against pocket sixes and ace-nine in one of the last hands of the day for what was a 150,000 chip pot. Fabian flopped top set and turned a full house to eliminate compatriot Marcel Tol and Czech player Petr Hejdanek. Fabian finished with 185,400, enough to lead but just over 5,000 short of Roman Mikus chip lead from Day 1a.

Other big stacks to make it through were Andreas Weiske (171,600), Erjat Balinca (162,600) Milan Stanislav (148,800) and Georgios Manousos (132,500). Manousos had been chip leader for much of the day but it was only at the end when several players overlapped him.

Team PokerStars Pro was once again represented by Christophe De Meulder. Yesterday the Belgian pro was unable to win a single pot, today it appeared that one big hand had made his day when he held aces against kings and sixes to give him an above-average stack, he finished with 65,800. He was not the only famous player on Day 1b though; former EPT Deauville winner Sotirios Koutoupas had also made an appearance alongside a band of Greek players but Koutoupas' day was cut short when he shoved blind only to find out he had {3-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, needless to say it did not work out for him.

In total, around 200 players busted in Day 1b, but they'll still have a chance to try out on Day 1c which begins shortly. The structure is exactly the same but the levels will only be 15 minutes long and it'll be a last chance to spin up a stack for Day 2.

Join the PokerNews Live Reporting Team across on the Day 1c blog as we bring you the final starting day from this tournament! Meanwhile, a full chip count for this event will come as soon as we get our grubby hands on it.

Joining in the middle of the action and Marcel Tol was all in for 63,000, Petr Hejdanek was all in for 30,700 and Thomas Fabian was tanking - a call would cost him most of his stack, but he made it.

Tol: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Hejdanek: {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Fabian: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The board came {10-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Fabian allowed himself a little cry of "Yes!" winning what looks to be the biggest pot today.

De Meulder Scoops a Big One

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Christophe De Meulder
Christophe De Meulder

Yesterday, Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder couldn't win a hand all day.

Today, he only needed one to make a difference.

De Meulder got two shorter stacks all in preflop while holding aces. A most agreeable situation.

De Meulder: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}
Stefanie Wojtas: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Pavel Panocha: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

The board came {6-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, scaring De Meulder's hand briefly but the aces stayed good to knock out both other players.

Koutoupas Busted

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
King's Casino, Rozvadov
King's Casino, Rozvadov

Former EPT Deauville winner Sotirios Koutoupas has been knocked out. The Greek player was all in blind for his last 2,500 preflop and Abdalla Ali made it 10,000 from the cutoff to scare everyone else off.

Ali flipped {A-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Koutoupas probably wished he had looked as he turned over {3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. The board ran out {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{2-Diamonds} to make Ali the better two pair and Koutoupas was knocked out. There's always the turbo Day 1c though...

Today we're expecting a bigger field as players try to beat Roman Mikus' benchmark finish of 190,500 from last night. Already over 100 players are registered with late entries and re-entries allowed until the end of level 4. There were 117 entries yesterday and 283 more will be needed between Day 1b and Day 1c for the event to make the €200,000 guarantee. The field today will be made up of new faces with a few players who busted yesterday also expected - including Team PokerStars Pro Christophe De Meulder.

Speaking of Day 1c, that begins at midnight tonight, shortly after Day 1b finishes. Day 1c will feature 15-minute levels and be extremely fast-paced lasting just two and a half hours with the end of play expected at about 2.30am. Day 1c will go 'live' on PokerNews as soon as Day 1b has been finished.

Meanwhile, Day 1b will begin at 4pm CET, follow all the action here!
