Welcome To MICOOP Event #31: $250 NLHE [Sunday Special SE], $100K GTD

The inaugural PokerStars Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) continues today with seven events on the schedule and PokerNews coverage of Event #31: $250 NLHE [Sunday Special SE], $100K GTD starting at 5 p.m. ET.

Registration is already open for all within the state of Michigan. Players need not be Michigan residents; they simply must be within state lines to compete.

Starting stacks for this event are 50,000 with 12-minute levels throughout the tournament. Play will begin with blinds of 200/400 and an ante of 50, with late registration is open for the first two hours and forty-five minutes. Up to five re-entries are available for all who are eliminated during the late registration period.

After today, over half of the 60 scheduled events will have been played to their completion in the series, spanning over the past eight days and featuring over $1 million in guaranteed prize pools.

Today's event was originally slated with a $50K GTD but was bumped to $100K with the success of the series thus far. Every event has shattered its guarantee up until this point, with almost all of them generating prize pools that were multiples of what was promised. The large turnouts continue to pave the way for more success in the recently-legalized online poker market of Michigan.

PokerNews will be on hand all the way to the finish line, so be sure to follow along and see who comes out on top.

"ToIkien_Fan" Coolered Early

In Level 1 with blinds at 200/400/50, "UltimulletTV" opened for 1,200 from under the gun and was called by "saturn1ut0" before "wh33lz0fst3@l" three-bet to 6,200 from the cutoff.

Action folded to "ToIkien_Fan" who four-bet jammed for 49,900 from the big blind, "UltimulletTV" came over the top for just 50 more and "wh33lz0fst3@l" called as well.

"ToIkien_Fan": {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
"UltimulletTV": {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}
"wh33lz0fst3@l": {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

"ToIkien_Fan" was ahead with their pocket rockets and the {7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop didn't change a thing.

The {4-Diamonds} turn however, gave "ToIkien_Fan" a sweat as "UltimulletTV" picked-up the nut flush draw and they completed after the {j-Diamonds} appeared on the river.

"Coolriver84" Lives Up to Their Name

In Level 8 with blinds at 700/1,400/175, "BishPlz94" open-jammed for 14,475 from the hijack and "Coolriver84" looked them up from the big blind.

"BishPlz94": {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
"Coolriver84": {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

"BishPlz94" had dominated "Coolriver84" and the {j-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop wasn't bad for "BishPlz94" as they picked-up the broadway draw.

The {a-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn bringing about chop possibilities if a jack or six were to fall on the river but it came the {9-Clubs} pairing "Coolriver84's" nine and gave them the pot.

PokerStars Thanks Players By Doubling Weekend Guarantees

Due to overwhelming demand for its inaugural Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) series, PokerStars decided to double the guarantees for MICOOP events over this weekend, including this very event which went from a $50K GTD to $100K.

PokerStars’ “Double Up Weekend” came following a week’s worth of MICOOP events, which have received massive support from the Michigan online poker community.

“The response in Michigan to our first Championship of Online Poker has been wonderful so we wanted to celebrate with our players,” said PokerStars Associate Director, Group Public Relations, Rebecca McAdam Willetts. “The poker community in Michigan has spoken and we are thrilled to double the value on offer to our players.”

Most recently, the total prize pool across events on Day 6 (Thursday, 2/25) exceeded $75,000, versus an original guarantee of $48,000 for the day. So far, the first 22 MICOOP events have exceeded their guarantees.

MICOOP features 60 tournaments of all different types and buy-ins ranging from $20 to $500, as well as qualifying tournaments (satellites) from as little as $2. The series runs until March 8 and culminates with a two-day $300 buy-in Main Event on March 7-8, featuring a guaranteed prize pool of $125,000.

Long Flops Quads to Stay Alive

In Level 15 with blinds at 2,500/5,000/625, Mike "PeppSee" Long raised to 15,000 from early position, "freshwaterfish3" three-bet jammed for 87,200 from the button and "smftt" came over the top for 155,500 from the big blind.

"smftt": {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
"freshwaterfish3": {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Mike "PeppSee" Long: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}

Long was in trouble but couldn't ask for a better flop as it came {q-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} giving him quads off the bat.

The {7-Clubs} turn didn't change a thing and the {j-Clubs} river secured Long the massive pot.

In Level 22 with blinds at 8,000/16,000/2,000, action folded around to "raykbr1253" who moved all in for their last 6,836 and "wicked_smaaart" looked them up from the big blind.
