"Iri$hPoet" Leads Final 48 in Event 61-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event-High]

A total of 355 players took their shot on Day 1 of Event 61-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event-High], the pinnacle of the Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP). That turnout, thought high given that entry was restricted to Ontario residents only, failed to meet the $200,000 guarantee, ensuring extra value for those who did choose to jump in the ring. When all was said and done after roughly seven hours of play, just 48 players found a bag for the second and final day of the inaugural ONCOOP Main Event.

Of those 48, it is "Iri$hPoet" who holds a commanding chiplead, sitting on a stack of 3,088,541, which puts them in a good position to chase down the $36,864.58 first place prize. Closest to catching "Iri$hPoet" is "P.Green6" on 2,188,532 with "fahdsmom" rounding out the top three with a stack of 1,761,678.

Several notables entered the fray, including five time ONCOOP winner Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban, who built a big stack early but crumbled late in the day to bust short of the money, as well as Patrick "Egption" Tardif, who failed to build any momentum. Some well known players that were able to navigate their way to Day 2 include Matthew "Sucra71" Gillingham (1,551,795) and Ryan "Ristokat" Riske (569,596).

"ShowYouHow" Busts to Burst the Bubble

"ShowYouHow" Busts to Burst the Bubble

"Paulharvey3" opened to 35,500 from the cutoff. "ShowYouHow" then three-bet to 288,000 on the button, leaving themselves just 7,369 behind. The blinds got out of the way to send the action back to "Paulharvey3" who moved all in with the covering stack. "ShowYouHow" made the call on the pure bubble to put themselves at risk.

"ShowYouHow": {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}
"Paulharvey3": {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

"ShowYouHow" was in rough shape, needing to flip the script on "Paulharvey3" to survive and prolong the day's play. They did pick up some chop outs on the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop but no further help came on the {7-Spades} turn or {k-Spades} river to send "ShowYouHow" crashing out of the tournament and ensure that all remaining players secure a min cash of $1,122.06.

"1VeYRdrEamS": {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
"Iri$hPoet": {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Though behind, "Iri$hPoet" did have two live cards and immediately jumped into the lead on the {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop. The {7-Diamonds} turn left "1VeYRdrEamS" drawing dead to the meaningless {7-Clubs} river.

"1buckylasturd" opened to 12,000 from middle position before "bbbb4499" moved all in for their last 70,882 out of the cutoff. "Turfiephd" in the big blind then shoved their larger stack of 118,184 into the middle, with "1buckylasturd" getting out of the way to officially put "bbbb4499" at risk.

"bbbb4499": {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
"Turfiephd": {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

"bbbb4499" would need help to avoid elimination and that help was quick to come on the {10-Spades}{a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} flop. Nothing changed on the {5-Clubs} turn or {8-Diamonds} river to give "bbbb4499" a crucial double.

"akaTomash" Holds To Bust "FraserON"

"akaTomash" opened to 7,000 from early position and was called by "Benoit1999" on the button. "FraserOn" then moved all in for 89,004 out of the small blind with "akaTomash" then re-jamming their stack of 103,669. "Benoit1999" quickly got out of the way to officially put "FraserOn" at risk.

"FraserOn": {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
"akaTomash": {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

It was a coinflip with "FraserOn" needing to hit to survive. The {2-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} flop brought no help to Bigslick with the {5-Spades} turn and {9-Hearts} river completing a safe runout for "akaTomash".

"FireFaux" Puts It All On the Line

"FireFaux" Puts It All On the Line

"FireFaux" opened to 5,250 from early position only for "Benoit1999" to three-bet to 16,250 one seat over. Action folded back around to "FireFaux" who chose to call.

"FireFaux" checked on a flop of {2-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and then called when "Benoit1999" continued for 12,821.

The {8-Diamonds} turn saw "FireFaux" check for a second time and then call once more after "Benoit1999" fired off a second barrel of 35,000.

Unlike the previous two streets, "FireFaux" decided to take the initiative on the {9-Hearts} river, moving their last 96,340 into the middle. That was enough to convince "Benoit1999" they were beat, sending a large pot towards "FireFaux".

Shaban On Right End of Cooler

Level 7 : Blinds 800/1,600, 200 ante
Shaban On Right End of Cooler
Shaban On Right End of Cooler

Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban has already enjoyed a fantastic ONCOOP and is on course to continue his strong series in the Main Event. Shaban opened to 3,200 from early position and received a sole caller in the form of "abendy" in the cutoff.

Shaban continued for 4,386 on a flop of {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Hearts} but was unable to shed his opponent, who called.

The {a-Spades} turn saw Shaban fire off another bet, this time sizing up to 12,800. Again, "abendy" called.

On the board pairing {9-Clubs} river Shaban pushed an even chunkier 33,600 into the middle. After using some of their time bank, "abendy" moved all in for 101,918 with Shaban snapping it off. "abendy" held {3-Spades}{3-Hearts} for the full house but Shaban flipped over {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} for the better boat to send "abendy" to the rail in cruel fashion.

"thx4your$" Dusts Off "andy123460"

"thx4your$" Dusts Off "andy123460"

"TRON1987" opened to 2,000 from early position and was called by "jadedjason" one seat over. "andy123460" then three-bet to 10,500 from the cutoff and was met by a cold four-bet to 29,000 by "thx4your$" out of the big blind. The high level of action was enough to convince both "TRON1987" and "jadedjason" to get out of the way, sending the action back to "andy123460" who made the call.

"thx4your$" continued their preflop aggression with a bet of 26,000 on a flop of {5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}, a bet that "andy123460" chose to flat.

The {2-Clubs} hit the turn, prompting "thx4your$" to move their entire stack of 147,680 into the pot of 115,500. "andy123460" went deep into the tank, burning through most of their time bank before eventually making the call for their tournament life.

"andy123460": {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
"thx4your$": {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

"andy123460" was in dire straits, needing to hit a two outer to survive. The miracle was not to be, however, after the {10-Spades} completed the board.
