A total of 355 players took their shot on Day 1 of Event 61-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event-High], the pinnacle of the Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP). That turnout, thought high given that entry was restricted to Ontario residents only, failed to meet the $200,000 guarantee, ensuring extra value for those who did choose to jump in the ring. When all was said and done after roughly seven hours of play, just 48 players found a bag for the second and final day of the inaugural ONCOOP Main Event.

Of those 48, it is "Iri$hPoet" who holds a commanding chiplead, sitting on a stack of 3,088,541, which puts them in a good position to chase down the $36,864.58 first place prize. Closest to catching "Iri$hPoet" is "P.Green6" on 2,188,532 with "fahdsmom" rounding out the top three with a stack of 1,761,678.

Several notables entered the fray, including five time ONCOOP winner Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban, who built a big stack early but crumbled late in the day to bust short of the money, as well as Patrick "Egption" Tardif, who failed to build any momentum. Some well known players that were able to navigate their way to Day 2 include Matthew "Sucra71" Gillingham (1,551,795) and Ryan "Ristokat" Riske (569,596).

Day 1 Comes to a Close

Level 20 : Blinds 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

With just 48 players remaining, play on Day 1 has drawn to a close. All those who remain in contention are guaranteed at least $1,122.06 when they return tomorrow, October 17th at 7:05 p.m. ET at which point play will continue until a winner is crowned.

Stay tuned for a full recap of the day's play to follow shortly.

"ShowYouHow" Busts to Burst the Bubble

"Paulharvey3" opened to 35,500 from the cutoff. "ShowYouHow" then three-bet to 288,000 on the button, leaving themselves just 7,369 behind. The blinds got out of the way to send the action back to "Paulharvey3" who moved all in with the covering stack. "ShowYouHow" made the call on the pure bubble to put themselves at risk.

"ShowYouHow": {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}
"Paulharvey3": {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

"ShowYouHow" was in rough shape, needing to flip the script on "Paulharvey3" to survive and prolong the day's play. They did pick up some chop outs on the {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop but no further help came on the {7-Spades} turn or {k-Spades} river to send "ShowYouHow" crashing out of the tournament and ensure that all remaining players secure a min cash of $1,122.06.

"Iri$hPoet" Claims Another Victim

Level 19 : Blinds 7,000/14,000, 1,750 ante
"Iri$hPoet" Claims Another Victim
"Iri$hPoet" Claims Another Victim

"Iri$hPoet" has been on a redhot tear in the last couple of levels, surging to a massive chiplead. Action folded around to "poolhaller" in the small blind who limped. "Iri$hPoet" moved all in out of the big blind and "poolhaller" snapped it off to put themselves at risk.

"poolhaller": {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
"Iri$hPoet": {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

"poolhaller" was in great shape to capture the full double up but that all changed following the {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop. No miracle comeback was on the cards, with the {k-Spades} turn and {9-Hearts} river sealing the fate of "poolhaller" just a few spots shy of the money.

"Iri$hPoet" opened to 24,000 from early position and "1VeYRdrEamS" moved all in for 184,487 out of the big blind. "Iri$hPoet" made the call to put their opponent at risk.

"1VeYRdrEamS": {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
"Iri$hPoet": {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Though behind, "Iri$hPoet" did have two live cards and immediately jumped into the lead on the {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{k-Spades} flop. The {7-Diamonds} turn left "1VeYRdrEamS" drawing dead to the meaningless {7-Clubs} river.
