Inaugural ONCOOP Main Event Kicks Off Today

The newly founded Ontario Championship of Online Poker (ONCOOP) has certainly been a success up to this point, handing out over $2,000,000 in prize money and now draws to a conclusion with Event 61-H: $500 NLHE [8-Max, Main Event-High]. Cards hit the felt sharply today at 5:05 p.m. ET, Sunday 16th October for the first of this two day event.

Likely to be among the entrants is Team PokerStars Pro Arlie "Prince Pablo" Shaban, who has already bagged an incredible five ONCOOP titles, as well as Timothy "TruthBeTold7" Rutherford, an online crusher who earlier this month banked an impressive $31,474.57 for coming out on top in Event 14-H: $2,000 NLHE [8-Max, Super Tuesday-High Roller].

Those who pony up the $500 entry fee will start play with 100,000 in chips and a slow blind structure consisting of 20-minute levels. Players are allowed up to five re-entries during the lengthy 5 hour and 40 minute late registration period. Once late registration closes, Day 1 will continue until the money bubble bursts, with the survivors returning tomorrow, October 17th at 7:05 p.m. ET to play down to a winner.

Make sure to stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team continues to provide updates of this tournament until the first ever ONCOOP Main Event champion is crowned.

"diggyemc" opened to 1,500 from under the gun and was met by a three-bet to 2,500 from "RedSox_Fan4L" one seat over. Action then folded around to "Searay4u" in the cutoff, who promptly moved their entire stack of 99,010 into the middle. The button and blinds got out of the way to send the action back to "diggyemc" who wasted little time in folding as did "RedSox_Fan4L" to send an early pot the aggressor's way.

"SilentLegend48" opened to 1,100 from early position and was called by both "jj_rose_jj12" in the cutoff as well as "ainutep" on the button.

Action checked to "ainutep" on a flop of {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and they continued for 1,550. "SilentLegend48" made the call while "jj_rose_jj12" got out of the way to send action heads-up to the turn.

"SilentLegend48" checked for a second time following the board pairing {10-Diamonds} turn, prompting a bet of 2,500 from "ainutep". Again, that bet was not enough to shed "SilentLegend48" who flatted to see a river.

The {j-Spades} completed the board, with "SilentLegend48" checking to the aggressor. "ainutep" went for the massive overbet, shoving their entire stack of 91,580 into the pot of 12,630. "SilentLegend48" flashed their rivered broadway, holding {k-Spades}{q-Diamonds}, before relinquishing their hand.

Action folded around to "flettl2" in the small blind, who opted to raise to 2,040 only to see "bowsy5151" in the big blind respond with a three-bet to 6,645. Undeterred, "flettl2" called to see a flop.

The flop came {9-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs} and saw both players check through to the {4-Hearts} turn. Again, neither player opted to take a stab, with action going check-check.

The {9-Diamonds} river double paired the board and once more both players decided to keep the stakes low, checking to showdown. "flettl2" flipped over {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} but was beaten to the pot by the {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} of "bowsy5151".

"MyNameJeffK" opened to 1,320 from early position with "flettl2" responding with a three-bet to 4,500 from the cutoff. Action folded back around to "MyNameJeffK" who opted to four-bet to 16,200. "flettl2" just called to generate a large pot heading to the flop.

Both players checked through the {4-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{a-Spades} flop to see the {5-Spades} turn, at which point "MyNameJeffK" led out for 14,400. "flettl2" made the call to send action to the river.

The {2-Clubs} river put a four liner to a straight on the board but that seemed of little concern to "MyNameJeffK", who moved all in, covering their opponent. "flettl2" called off for their last 27,257 and showed {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} for top-top. It was not good, however, as "MyNameJeffK" held {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} for the flopped set to scoop the sizable pot and force "flettl2" out of the tournament.
