Albers Finds Tough River Call

A huge pot of 650,000 had developed on a board of 10♥8♣5♣7♥K♦, in a hand between Gertjan Albers in early position and Jozef Cibicek on the button.

Albers checked, and Cibicek jammed for around 765,000, covering Albers who had around 500,000 behind.

Albers was in the blender, sitting with his head in his hands, trying to break down the hand in his mind. After about two minutes a fold seemed the most likely outcome, but suddenly Albers flicked in a calling chip.

Cibicek tabled Q♠9♥ for the missed straight draw, and Albers let out a deep sigh of relief as he turned over A♥A♣ for a pair of aces.
