Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian Leads Final 10 Players in 2020 WCOOP-16-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, High Roller]

In just over seven hours of play, a field of 95 entries in WCOOP-16-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, Progressive KO, High Roller] has been whittled down to the final 10 players, who have all locked up a portion of the $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. The second five-figure prize pool of the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker 2020 (WCOOP) narrowly missed out on meeting the guarantee and the usual suspects gave it a shot to earn one of online poker's most prestigious titles.

When all was done and dusted, a double knockout let the bubble burst and reduced the field to just 10 hopefuls instead of the scheduled 11 and Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian bagged up a comfortable lead. The Russian, who has stormed into the live and online poker High Roller scene with numerous big cashes, already min-cashed WCOOP-10-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller] and seems poised to add a first WCOOP title to his poker resume.

Martirosian claimed 6,255,647 to his name and $26,250 in accumulated bounty prizes tie second-placed Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji (4,100,954) who was responsible for the conclusion of the day. A late surge propelled Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin to a stack of 2,563,690 with Brunno "botteonpoker" Botteon (2,424,456) and Ole "wizowizo" Schemion (2,391,932) close behind.

The remaining finalists include "Kurtkaare" (1,734,322), "LeslieGroves" (1,410,345), Joao "Naza114" Vieira (1,355,841), Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos (901,808) and David "dpeters17" Peters (611,005). Peters is the only player without any accumulated bounty prizes thus far and will have 15 big blinds at his disposal.

Action of the Day

There was a steady stream of new entries, re-entries and eliminations throughout the entire registration period and no late rush which boosted the field all of a sudden. No more than seven tables ran at the same time and it took several levels to send the first High Roller to the rail.

Among the notable hands in the early stages was a double knockout for Brunno Botteon which left Stephen Chidwick very short, as well as a triple knockout for Norway's "Kurtkaare". Botteon continued his wild ride up and down the leaderboard and found the fortune when he became short while many other big names fell without anything to show for.

The rise of Martirosian started after the fourth break when he knocked out Niklas Astedt by minor kicker advantage. He then felted Samuel Vousden with aces versus flopped second pair as the field started to settle down. By then, Ole "wizowizo" Schemion had already fired three shells without success and then doubled three times on his fourth and final entry. Right after the end of the registration period, Martirosian knocked out Simon "simon1471" Higgins in a three-bet pot when the Brit turned trips treys only to run smack dab into kings full.

Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger also ran into the kings of Martirosian and could not find any help with pocket queens. Down to the final three tables, the biggest pot of the tournament to date played out between Martirosian and Mustapha "lasagnaaammm" Kanit when both were first and second in chips. Kanit eventually bluffed into aces full and was left with fumes, he was knocked out by none other than Martirosian a while later.

Mustapha Kanit

Dmitry "yurasov1990" Yurasov failed to make the money and had to settle for one $2,500 bounty prize while Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi collected $9,375 in bounty prizes throughout the maximum allowed four entries. WCOOP-10-H: $10,300 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller] champion Ludovic "ludovi333" Geilich then cold-four-bet jammed a shorter stack out of the big blind with ace-king only to see Martirosian snap-call and turn over aces once more.

Ultimately, it was a double elimination that wrapped up the action for the night when Andras "probirs" Nemeth with ace-jack and Mike "SirWatts" Watson with queens came up short against the pocket kings of Rodrigo "seijistar" Seiji.

All remaining ten players will return to their seats after a good night's sleep at 1.05 p.m. EST with almost the entire level 19 to be played at blinds of 20,000/40,000 with a running ante of 5,000.

The final day of the tournament will be streamed on the PokerStars Twitch channel with cards-up coverage and commentary on a delay of at least 20 minutes. All PokerNews updates for the remainder of the event will be published according to the delay of the live stream. Double Knockout Bursts the Money Bubble

Level 19 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Bubble Boy Andras Nemeth
Bubble Boy Andras Nemeth

The action kicked off with a raise to 88,000 by Mike "SirWatts" Watson and Andras "probirs" Nemeth then moved all in for 907,958 in the small blind. Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji was in the big blind and reshoved for more than 2.1 million, which sent Watson in a brief period of consideration.

Watson then called all-in for 1,050,056 and was the second-biggest stack in the showdown.

Andras "probirs" Nemeth: {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Mike "SirWatts" Watson: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

On a board of {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Nemeth only found one jack and was eliminated as the bubble boy whereas Watson became the first player to cash. He had not collected any bounty prize and took home the cash prize of $13,250. All remaining 10 players are now done for the night and return as of 1.05 p.m. EST.

Martirosian Continues Domination and Felts Geilich

Level 18 : 17,500/35,000, 4,500 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

"LeslieGroves" opened the action with a raise to 70,000 and Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian three-bet to 210,000 from one seat over in the hijack. Ludovic "ludovi333" Geilich, who had dropped to just 741,421, moved in from the big blind and that forced out "LeslieGroves". However, Martirosian snap-called and that was bad news for Geilich.

Ludovic "ludovi333" Geilich: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

On a board of {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Geilich found no help and departed in 13th place.

Schemion Sends Shakerchi Out

Level 18 : 17,500/35,000, 4,500 ante

The action folded all the way to Ole "wizowizo" Schemion on the button and he moved all in to put pressure on the two shorter stacks in the blinds. Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi was one of them and called all-in for 581,719 in the small blind.

Talal "raidalot" Shakerchi: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}
Ole "wizowizo" Schemion: {j-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Schemion flopped best on {q-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts} and the {8-Spades} turn came a blank, too. The {10-Hearts} river further improved Schemion to trips tens and Shakerchi was out in 14th place.

Yurasov Eliminated by Seiji

Level 17 : 15,000/30,000, 3,750 ante
Dmitry Yurasov
Dmitry Yurasov

Dmitry "yurasov1990" Yurasov raised to 60,000 with 362,335 behind and table neighbor Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji in the cutoff three-bet to 180,000. Yurasov opted to call and checked the {9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Spades} flop on which he then check-called all-in for 242,335 following a continuation bet of Seiji.

Dmitry "yurasov1990" Yurasov: {j-Spades}{9-Spades}
Rodrigo "Seijistar" Seiji: {k-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Yurasov was in great shape with a pair an flushdraw but Seiji took the lead on the {k-Diamonds} turn. A blank {a-Diamonds} followed and that reduced the field to the final 14 contenders.

Kanit Felted by Martirosian

Level 17 : 15,000/30,000, 3,750 ante

Down to the last 201,618, Mustapha "lasagnaaammm" Kanit moved all in from early position and it was only fitting that big chip leader Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian isolated by moving all in from the button.

Mustapha "lasagnaaammm" Kanit: {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian: {j-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Kanit was ahead but Martirosian finished off the job he had started on a board of {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades} to claim the bounty of the Italian.

Huge Double for Martirosian

Level 15 : 10,000/20,000, 2,500 ante
Martirosian vs Kanit
Martirosian vs Kanit

The biggest pot of the tournament so far has vaulted Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian into the top spot and the hand itself was very identical to a previous one when he flopped the best of it and was called down all the way.

His latest victim was previous chip leader Mustapha "lasagnaaammm" Kanit, who kicked off the action with a raise to 43,200. Martirosian three-bet to 200,000 in the small blind and Kanit came along. The Russian bet the {a-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} flop for 143,550 and checked the {2-Spades} turn. Kanit fired a bet of 395,825 and check-called the shove of Kanit on the {6-Hearts} river for 1,753,306.

Kanit tabled {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Martirosian won the huge pot with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} for aces full.

Kanit tripled up two hands later when he jammed {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts} and Martirosian called, then folded to the shove of Joao "Naza114" Vieira with the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}. The {k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} board gave Kanit a straight on the turn and flush on the river.

Mattsson Eliminated by Kurtkaare
Mattsson Eliminated by Kurtkaare

Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson jammed the button with the {3-Clubs}{3-Spades} and Thomas "MarToMchat" Boivin called for less than that in the small blind with the {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. The {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} board delivered no upset and Boivin called.

However, the bounty of Mattsson then went to "Kurtkaare" when he called Mattsson's shove for eight blinds the next hand.

Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson: {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
"Kurtkaare": {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}

The {10-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} board left Mattsson drawing dead on the turn and he departed in 18th place.

Artur "mararthur1" Martirosian raised to 40,000 from the under-the-gun position and table short stack Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger three-bet to 112,000 in the small blind. Martirosian simply moved all in with the far superior stack and Eibinger called for 513,228 total.

Matthias "iambest2" Eibinger: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Down to just 164,000, Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen moved all in from middle position and Brunno "botteonpoker" Botteon jammed for nearly 1.5 million in the small blind to isolate successfully.

Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen: {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

The kicker advantage of Hunichen grew with an added flushdraw until the {q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs} turn but Botteon hit the magic {8-Spades} river to score the knockout.
