Pay Jump Coming

Level 58 : 1,000,000/2,000,000, 250,000 ante

The flurry of eliminations has slowed down. This is perhaps at least partially due to the big payout jump. The final 12 players are each guaranteed $5,837 but this jumps up significantly after one more player is eliminated with the final 11 players guaranteed at least $8,256.

“The tournament was very intense.”

So said Vitor “Vitorbrasil” Moreira when we asked him about Event #48-M of the 2020 World Championship of Online Poker.

It was a $530 buy-in no-limit hold’em event played eight-handed in the progressive knockout format. It attracted 3,856 entries, building a huge prize pool of $1.928 million. And some of online poker’s toughest and most consistent performers were there at the end.

“When playing a buy-in of this value, it’s always very challenging,” says Moreira.

The first day went well for the Brazilian. “I was able to maintain a good stack from the beginning,” says Moreira. “I eliminated several players and was able to move forward safely.”

Chip Counts at Break

Level 57 : 800,000/1,600,000, 200,000 ante

"w1972vw" Eliminated in 13th Place ($5,837)

Level 57 : 800,000/1,600,000, 200,000 ante

"klimono" opened for 3.5 million from early position before they called a jam by "w1972vw" from one seat over to 33.1 million.

"w1972vw": {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
"klimono": {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

"w1972vw" had an edge when the chips went into the pot but was eliminated from the tournament after their opponent hit top pair on the {a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} board.

Meanwhile, "klimono" took the chip lead after the hand.

Leonid "LeBroHbka" Logunov Eliminated in 14th Place ($4,218)

Level 57 : 800,000/1,600,000, 200,000 ante

Leonid "LeBroHbka" Logunov was down to just under 20 million and he jammed most of that in preflop from the small blind only to get called by "Mr.Skinny.00". The rest of the chips went in after the {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Diamonds} came on the flop.

Leonid "LeBroHbka" Logunov: {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}
"Mr.Skinny.00": {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The {10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board didn't improve Logunov and he was ousted in 14th place for $4,218. The final 13 players are now guaranteed a payout of at least $5,837 and are only four spots away from the final table.

"ooohhhchavo" Eliminated in 15th Place ($4,218)

Level 57 : 800,000/1,600,000, 200,000 ante

"ooohhhchavo" opened for 17.6 million from under the gun with 1.3 million behind. "vrodrguez1" raised from the big blind and got a call.

"ooohhhchavo": {k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
"vrodrguez1": {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The {5-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{8-Spades} appeared on the board and "ooohhhchavo" was eliminated in 15th place.
