Get ready for a busy day as there are two starting flights today with Day 1c scheduled to start at 11 a.m. and Day 1d kicking off at 5 p.m. local time in the MGM Grand Ballroom on the 2nd floor of the hotel lobby of the MGM National Harbor. The first event of the inaugural Potomac Winter Poker Open features a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000 and has already attracted 374 entries over the first two starting days out of six in total. Out of those 374 entries, 29 players have made it through to Day 2 on Sunday, February 9.

Currently it’s Patrick Dewey who has the overall chip lead with 594,000 in chips which he collected on Day 1b. He is trailed Michael Lisman (536,000), Day 1a chip leader Daniel Araya (529,000), Andrew Chang (520,000), and Waleed Mian with 442,000 in chips.

Players will get 25,000 in chips for their $400 buy-in and play 30-minute levels throughout the day. The late registration period will remain open until the start of Level 12 and 15-minute breaks are to take place after Levels 4, 7, and 11. For Day 1c there will be a one-hour dinner break after Level 14 whereas it will be a normal 15-minute break for Day 1d. 12% of the field will get into the money but play will continue until 8% of the field is left. Everyone who cashes on Day 1 is guaranteed to cash for $550.

Day 2 will begin at the shortest time played in any of the six starting flights and is currently standing at the start of Level 18. Level duration will increase to 45 minutes on Day 2 until the final table has been reached. Level duration will then increase to 60 minutes with play continuing until a winner has been found.

PokerNews will be there from the start of Day 1c, follow all the action until the end and then switch the coverage to Day 1d so loads of action to be seen right here until the late hours of the night!

Leonard Ulish raised to 800 from the middle position and was called by the player in the cutoff. Rickey Lee three-bet to 2,800 in the small blind. The big blind folded and Ulish four-bet to 8,000. The cutoff folded and Lee took some time before opting to make the call.

The flop came {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Lee checked, Ulish continued with a bet of 5,500, Lee raised to 14,500, and Ulish responded with a shove. Lee asked for a count and the dealer confirmed Ulish had 21,500 behind. Lee contemplated his options for a while and then put in the extra 7,000 needed to see the cards go on their backs.

There’s a new poker tour in town as a trio of MGM properties – MGM National Harbor, MGM Springfield, and Borgata – have joined forces to establish the MGM East Coast Poker Tour (ECPT).

The tour consist of the following stops:

  • Potomac Winter Poker Open at MGM National Harbor February 5-17
  • Borgata Spring Poker Open April 7-24
  • Borgata Summer Poker Open July 7-24
  • Potomac Summer Poker Open at MGM National Harbor July 22-August 3
  • The Armory Classic at MGM Springfield August 12-24

The Points Leaderboard

Linking the five events will be a leaderboard where players can earn points by participating in any qualifying events.

Leaderboard prizes consist of the following: the top 90 finishers on the leaderboard will earn entry into Borgata Fall Poker Open/MGM Resorts East Coast Poker Tour $2,000,000 Guaranteed Championship on November 15-20, 2020 ($3,500 value) including complimentary overnight stays. Others can win $250 room credits, Cartier watch ($2,500 value) and $500 MGM Resorts promotional gift cards.

Players can earn points in a variety of ways including “Participation Points” for buying into tournaments, “Entry Points” based on field sizes, and “Placement Points” for making the final table. Click here for more details on the point system.

The leaderboard will be posted to MGMECPT.com and updated daily when qualifying events are occurring. Points for the leaderboard will be finalized on August 25, 2020.

Coddington Cracks Aces to Take Chip Lead

He was called and covered by Charles Coddington in the early position who held {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for the straight which couldn't be beaten anymore.

The river completed the board with the {2-Hearts} as a formality as Coddington added some more chips to his growing stack.

At the end of the previous level, the player in the late position raised to 3,500 and Eric Masters shoved from the cutoff. Action folded to Matthew McGuire in the big blind who asked for a count. The dealer confirmed Masters had 20,500 behind. McGuire called but the player in the late position decided to shove too for around 53,000. McGuire snap-called.
