MGM National Harbor
MGM National Harbor

The 2023 Potomac Winter Poker Open continues today with Day 1b, which is the second of six starting flights for Event #1: $400 Mystery Bounty.

Last night, David Simard bagged the Day 1a chip lead with 663,000 in chips after besting a 278-entry field. Of those players, just 22 remained by the day's end and will continue onto Day 2. Other big stacks from Day 1a include Frankie Greever (589,000), Charles Parrish (576,000), and Besnik Biberaj (572,000).

Play is set to begin at 5 p.m. local time. Players will begin with 25,000 in tournament chips with blinds starting at 100/100 and a 100 big-blind ante. All Day 1 levels will last 30 minutes and players may re-enter until the beginning of level 12. Players will reach the money once 10% of the field remains and play will continue until 8% of the field remains, whereupon the surviving players will bag and tag for Day 2. All Day 1 payouts are fixed at $500 and all Day 2 payouts will exceed $500.

Additionally, all surviving players who make it to Day 2 will be designated as a mystery bounty. From that point on, any player who knocks another player out of the tournament will be given a mystery bounty receipt, which can then be redeemed at the mystery bounty redemption table. Each receipt can range in value anywhere from the lowest prize of $50 all the way up to the top prize of $25,000.

Day 2 will begin on Sunday, January 29th at 12 p.m. and feature increased 45-minute levels. The Day 2 tournament clock will begin at the shortest time played in any one of the previous flights. Play on Day 2 will continue until a winner is determined.

Lammle up Early

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante

On a flop of {k-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, John Lammle bet 600 from early position and was raised by his lone opponent in the cutoff to 1,800. Lammle called.

Lammle then check-called a 3,100 bet from his opponent on the {q-Hearts} turn and both players checked down on the {8-Spades} river.

"Pair of queens," Lammle announced as he tabled {q-Spades}{10-Spades}. His opponent mucked and Lammle scooped the pot.

On a board of {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts}, William Blackburn was heads-up on the button against a lone player in the big blind. Blackburn bet 3,000 after being checked to and his opponent then check-shoved for around 20,000.

Blackburn quickly called and his opponent showed {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades} for just a pair of sevens. Blackburn held the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a flush — sending his opponent to the rail and scooping a huge pot in the first level.
