Paul Sampson Crushes Day 1b as 52 Survive

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Paul Sampson

Day 1b of the 2016 Run It Up Reno Main Event came to a conclusion on Saturday night with Paul Sampson steam-rolling the field to lead the remaining 52 players into Day 2 on Sunday.

Saturday would play host to two Main Event flights with Day 1b running as a regular flight, while Day 1c later that night would play as a turbo. A total of 162 players were tallied throughout the day to crush the $150,000 guarantee before a seat was even sold in the final flight.

A plethora of re-entrants would lead the field into Day 1b, as the likes of early-week winners Thomas Dominguez, Michael Cooper, and "Boston" Rob Mariano all took their chance at surviving. Additionally, Deb Swift, Marty Gorenc, Scott Ball, Tyler Rauh, Nadya Magnus, Tyson Apostol, and last year's runner up Jesse Capps all entered but were unable to bag chips after the 12-level day.

The day would belong to Thursday Thrilla fourth-place finisher Paul Sampson, who surged to the top early and kept his foot on the gas until the last hand.

Sampson's first big pot came when his top set of aces stacked an opponent with two pair before he picked off a big bluff with just top pair. Sampson would then take care of Magnus when he rivered his two overcards before he would eliminate two players in the last few orbits of the night. The first saw his pocket fives hold against ace-jack before on the penultimate hand of the night saw his turned set of queens eliminate another victim and send him soaring up to 456,400 to end the night as the overwhelming leader.

Brandon Boatman sat second with 256,500, which would have been good for the Day 1a chip lead, while Run It Up Reno festival host Jason Somerville bagged an impressive 98,100. Bracelet winner Leo Wolpert (25,900), Kristin Kane (34,500), Garry Gates (50,500), and Mariano (39,700) also made it through to Day 2 where the 52 from Day 1b will join the 63 from Day 1a.

Day 2 for the survivors will be on Sunday at 12 p.m. local time with PokerNews providing continuous coverage until the Run It Up Reno Main Event champion is crowned.

Somerville Finds a Double

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Jason Somerville
Jason Somerville

Jason Somerville opened to 2,600 in middle position and a player on the button three-bet him to an unknown amount with two orange T5,000 chips. Somerville responded by shoving all in for 27,900 and he got a quick call.

Somerville: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Somerville faded the aces as the {10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Diamonds} presented no danger to his kings.

Magnus Rivered to the Rail by Sampson; Now Has 300k

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Nadya Magnus
Nadya Magnus

Following a raise to 3,000, Paul Sampson called on the button before Nadya Magnus moved all in from the big blind for 30,700.

The original raiser folded, but Sampson quickly called.

Sampson: {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Magnus: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

With Magnus in the lead but flipping for her tournament life, the {2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{J-Spades}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} run out would see Sampson spike a bigger pair on the river to send her to the rail.

Sampson now has roughly 280,000 in chips.

Monster Stack for Sampson

Level 7 : 250/500, 100 ante
Paul Sampson

With 4,700 in the middle and the board reading {7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{6-Hearts}, the small blind bet out 5,000 and Paul Sampson called in the big blind.

The river landed the {Q-Spades} and the small blind checked to Sampson who moved all in.

"Well if you got the queen, good luck to you!" announced the small blind as he made the call for his 31,500 in chips while tabling {A-Spades}{J-Spades}.

Sampson tabled his {A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} for a full house and eliminated his opponent while soaring up to 155,000 in chips.

Guarantee Met; 300 Players and Counting!

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante

Tournament Director Mike Nelson has just announced that with 109 players already registered in this Day 1b flight, the $150,000 guarantee has now been met.

With a whole other flight remaining, and a further 5 hours of late registration and re-entry in this flight, it is a strong likelihood that the guarantee will be smashed as the field will no doubt creep up to the 400-player mark at this rate.

Day 1b Ready to Go

Welcome back to the Peppermill Resort Hotel and the 2016 Run It Up Reno festival hosted by Jason Somerville for Day 1b of the $565 Main Event!

Yesterday saw nearly 200 players take to the felt with roughly a quarter of those surviving into Day 2 as Gary Kochalka lead all the survivors with a whopping 246,100 to only just outdo Rob Paul's 242,000 and Reuben Moss' 210,900. The likes of Andy Peplinski, Chad Holloway, Randy Lew, Kevin Martin, Jaime Staples, and defending champion Nick Aguilera also survived.

Day 2 for the Day 1a survivors will be on Sunday at 12 p.m. local time with PokerNews providing continuous coverage until the Run It Up Reno Main Event champion is crowned. Will it be Aguilera defending his ti

Today will be an entirely different day with a smaller field expected, but with a turbo flight kicking off at 9:00 p.m. and a lengthy registration and re-entry period again, the field is expected to eclipse the 300-player mark with ease while simultaneously smashing the $150,000 guarantee.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the floor providing continuos live updates from 12:00 p.m. PDT of all the Day 1b action, along with tonight's Day 1c and the remaining side events on the Run It Up Reno schedule.
