Day 1a of the $300,000 guaranteed, Run It Up Reno IX $600 Main Event saw 340 entrants converge on the Peppermill Reno, all hoping to make it through to Day 2. When the smoke cleared with 26:43 left in Level 15, just 55 players were left bagging up and guaranteeing themselves a cash with Brett Gordon and his 455,000 chip stack leading the way.

"I was trying to stay under the radar," Gordon said about his day. "I got very lucky and just kept getting great hands and people never believed me!" Even a little trouble at the beginning of the flight wouldn't deter Gordon's march to the top stack, as he said, "I had 20,000 at first break at my shortest point. After the break I made a flush and got an effective double and it was smooth from there."

Four-time WSOP bracelet winner and two-time Run It Up Reno Main Event champ Loren Klein (172,000) headlines a strong group of notable players advancing to Day 2, with Matt Stout (296,000), Ronnie Bardah (293,000), Vanessa Kade (234,000) and Andy Camou (76,000) all advancing as well.

Popular poker vloggers Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen both failed to make it through the day, and Run It Up Ambassador Arlie Shaban also failed to progress. Brittney Barnes couldn't win a flip to fall two spots shy of the money, and others to finish short of a bag include Matthew Moreno, Jon Turner, and Vincent Newland.

Day 1b will kick off tomorrow at Noon local time. The schedule will be the same for players looking to progress to Sunday's Day 2, with 30,000 in starting chips, 40-minute levels, and the field playing down to 16% before bagging and tagging for the evening. Who will join the 55 players from tonight in search of a Run It Up Reno Main Event trophy? Stay tuned tomorrow to PokerNews for all the action and updates.

Brittney Barnes
Brittney Barnes

Brittney Barnes jammed for 110,000 from the hijack, and Max Young three-bet shoved for 200,000 in the small blind, chasing out the big blind.

Brittney Barnes: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Max Young: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Young found an ace on the {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop, and made two pair on the {k-Diamonds} turn. Barnes needed a nine to survive, but the {7-Clubs} river sent her home two spots shy of a Day 2 bag.

Gir Hits Quad Kings

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

A massive pot was already in the middle between Chance Gir and Chris Horter, with {7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{6-Clubs} on the board.

Gir bet 50,000 from the hijack, and Horter tanked for a bit before folding. Gir showed the table {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds} for quad kings, and moved up to 345,000 chips.

Alon Eldar

Alon Eldar raised to 10,000 from the cutoff, and the button three-bet to 35,000.

"How much money do you have on your Hendon Mob?" Eldar asked the button, to the amusement of the table. He wasn't given an answer, but Eldar four-bet hammed for 135,000 nonetheless.

The button folded and Eldar flashed {k-}{k-} before raking in the pot.

A Pair of Hands Featuring Loren Klein

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Loren Klein got involved in back-to-back hands, with the money bubble approaching.

The first saw Klein open to 9,000 from under the gun, and Chance Gir call from the hijack. The flop came {7-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, and Klein check-folded to an 11,000 bet from Gir.

The following hand saw Travis Cochran raise to 9,000 from the small blind, and Klein call from the big blind. Both players then checked the {7-Spades}{a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop.

Cochran bet 7,000 on the {k-Diamonds} turn, and Klein called. The river came {j-Hearts}, Cochran bet 12,000, and Klein called.

Cochran showed {q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, while Klein turned over {j-Clubs}{7-Hearts} for two pair.
