Lucas Hill On Top of the Mountain as 24 Survive Day 1a of the $440 Mini Main Event at Run It Up Reno IX

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Lucas Hill
Lucas Hill

Day 1a of the series-opening, $100,000 Guaranteed $440 Mini Main Event here at Run It Up Reno IX saw 145 entrants hit the felt in search of a Day 2 bag. After nearly fifteen levels of play, 24 players survived, and it was Lucas Hill leading the way with a stack of 521,000 after a late surge near the end of the night.

Run It Up founder Jason Somerville cruised along for most of the day, before he and Run It Up Reno VIII Pro Bounty champ Jim Petzing both fell after a pair-over-pair-over-pair cooler at the hands of Hill, which propelled him over the 300,000 chip marker. Hill then began to apply relentless pressure on his table over the last level of play, adding a few hundred thousand in chips to his stack before ending the night.

Rounding out the top three are Tyler Burke (430,000), and Run It Up Reno VIII 6-Max 8-Game Championship winner Nick Kiley (378,000) while Jon "PearlJammed" Turner (221,000), Ricky "ratedGTO" Guan (82,000), and Team partypoker Pro Patrick Tardif (78,000) also managed to work their way through the field to make it to Sunday's Day 2 and guarantee a cash.

Some of those unable to make it through the day include former Survivor champ Tyson Apostol, Twitch streamers Vanessa Kade and Arlie Shaban, and bubble boy Carlo Vitale.

Players who didn't find a bag today will have one more chance to make it to Sunday's Day 2, as Day 1b of the $440 Mini Main Event kicks off at Noon on Saturday, October 12th. Players will again receive 25,000 in starting chips, with late registration and unlimited re-entry available through the dinner break after Level 11, or approximately 7 p.m. local time. All players who make it through to Day 2 will return at Noon on Sunday, October 13th to play down to a winner, and players will resume play at the earlier of the two Day 1 stop times. (Day 1a ended with 2:08 remaining in Level 15.)

Stay tuned right here to PokerNews as we bring you all the action right here from Run It Up Reno IX's Opening Event.

Jim Petzing
Jim Petzing

Jim Petzing jammed for the second consecutive hand, this time for 53,500 from middle position, and the hijack committed his last 32,000.

Opponent: {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Jim Petzing: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Petzing drilled a set on the {6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop, and although his opponent picked up a gutshot Broadway draw on the {q-Clubs} turn, the {9-Spades} river bricked off to earn Petzing the KO.

Pardy Ousts Apostol

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Jon Pardy
Jon Pardy

Jon Pardy of Big Brother fame, and Tyson Apostol from Survivor, got into a battle of reality show stars that ended with Apostol going to the rail for the second time today.

Pardy opened to 2,500 from the button, a player on the small blind called, and Apostol three-bet all in for his last 10,400. Pardy looked over at Apostol and went into the tank.

A smiling Pardy told Apostol that he had a close decision, finally deciding on a call. The small blind folded, and Pardy and Apostol went to the showdown.

Tyson Apostol: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Jon Pardy: {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts}

Board: {4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}

Apostol was well ahead, having one more card to dodge going into the river. The {a-Diamonds} spiked on the river, however, and Apostol's second entry into the Mini Main Event has come to an end.

Four players saw an {8-Spades}{2-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop together, and action checked to the player in middle position, who bet 1,200 into a pot of 2,500. Carlos Pal, who won a freeroll here at Run It Up Reno VII last year for a PokerStars Platinum Pass, called from the cutoff, and the blinds both folded.

Both players checked the {a-Hearts} turn, and the {q-Spades} fell on the river. The middle position player checked, and Pal bet 3,300. Pal's opponent folded.

TKO For "ratedGTO"

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Ricky Guan in prior Run It Up action
Ricky Guan in prior Run It Up action

A player limped in from middle position, and Ricky "ratedGTO" Guan raised to 1,600 from the hijack. The middle position player called.

The {9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop was checked by the middle position player, and Guan bet 1,200. The hijack called.

Both players checked the {9-Spades} turn, and the {k-Spades} river was checked again by the middle position player. Guan bet 9,000, and the middle position player check-raised all in for around 20,000, which Guan snapped off.

"Ah, I thought you had ace-king!" the middle position sighed, tabling {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flush, and Guan rolled over {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for kings-full and the knockout.
