The biggest buy-in tournament of the Run It Up Reno VIII – the $1,100 Thursday Thrilla – began with 178 entries each with a $500 bounty on their head.

After two days of play, Adin Cota finished as the last player standing at the Peppermill Casino. It was good for a $20,400 top prize and a dozen $500 bounties along the way for an additional $6,000.

The tournament offered $500 bounties on each player, meaning a regular prize pool of $82,720 was up for grabs. Among those to cash on Day 1 of the tournament were partypoker pro Patrick Tardif (10th - $2,400), Joel Danforth (13th - $1,500), Noel Rodriguez (16th - $1,500), and David Thomas (18th - $1,500).

When the final table began Katie Lindsay held a large chip lead with approximately a third of the chips in play. It didn’t take long for Derek Frye to collect the $500 bounty of Jerry White after queens held against Big Slick, and then Timothy “VaderNader” Guilford sent Fintan “Easy with Aces” Hand to the rail in eighth place.

Frye proceeded to collect the bounties of both Jeff Newman and Frank Lagodich before busting himself in fifth place. It happened when he jammed jack-ten suited and failed to get there against Max Brown’s ace-queen.

The very next hand, Brown busted with the same hand against Cota’s pocket queens. That gave Cota a huge chip lead that he used to collect the bounties of Lindsay and Guilford, who finished in third and second place for $8,940 and $13,020 (plus 11 and 12 bounties) respectively.

The Thursday Thrilla is in the books but our coverage of the RIU Reno is still ongoing. Click here to follow live updates from Day 1a of the $600 RIU Reno VIII Main Event.

Timothy "VaderNader" Guilford Eliminated in 2nd Place ($13,020)

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 10,000 ante
Timothy Guilford - 2nd Place
Timothy Guilford - 2nd Place

In just the second hand of heads-up play, the short-stacked Timothy "VaderNader" Guilford got his stack of 270,000 all in and was primed to double through Adin Cota.

Cota: {2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Guilford: {a-Spades}{2-Hearts}

The {4-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{6-Spades} flop gave Cota a gutshot straight draw, which he needed to hit when the {a-Diamonds} turn gave Guilford a pair of aces.

Much to the dismay of Guilford, the {5-Hearts} did spike on the river to give Cota the win and the final $500 bounty of the tournament (plus he got to keep his own).

Katie Lindsay Eliminated in 3rd Place ($8,940)

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 10,000 ante
Katie Lindsay - 3rd Place
Katie Lindsay - 3rd Place

Katie Lindsay was in the small blind with the {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and raised to 75,000. Adin Cota was in the big with the {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} and three-bet it to 180,000, which Lindsay called.

When the flop fell {3-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades}, Lindsay checked and Cota bet 100,000. Lindsay check-raised all in for 775,000 and Cota snap-called.

Lindsay was in a bad spot but the {7-Clubs} turn made things interesting by giving her a club flush draw.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {5-Spades}. Lindsay missed and had to settle for third place and $8,940 in prize money, plus the 11 $500 bounties she collected along the way.

Max Brown Eliminated in 4th Place ($6,650)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Max Brown - 4th Place
Max Brown - 4th Place

In the hand after Derek Frye busted, Adin Cota opened for 33,000 under the gun and Timothy Guilford moved all in for 167,000 from the cutoff. Max Brown then jammed all in over the top for 763,000 from the small blind and Cota quickly called to put both players at risk.

Cota: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Brown: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Guilford: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{9-Spades} and Guilford wound up with a flush to triple while Cota collected Brown's $500 bounty. It marked back-to-back Thursday Thrilla cashes for Brown, who finished 15th in this tournament last year.

Derek Frye Eliminated in 5th Place ($5,250)

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Derek Frye - 5th Place
Derek Frye - 5th Place

Timothy Guilford raised to 35,000 from the button and Derek Frye moved all in for 149,000 from the small blind. Max Brown jammed over the top from the big and Guilford got out of the way.

Frye: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Brown: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

The {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{q-Spades} flop paired Brown and left Frye looking for runner-runner, but the {3-Diamonds} took away any chance of that happening.

The meaningless {9-Spades} was run out on the river and Frye hit the rail, which in turn gave Brown the $500 bounty.

Frank Lagodich - 6th Place
Frank Lagodich - 6th Place

Frank Lagodich was all in preflop for his last 129,000 and looking to get lucky against Derek Frye.

Frye: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Lagodich: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

The {3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Hearts} flop gave Lagodich a little help but he needed more to stay alive. The {5-Clubs} turn didn't do it and neither did the {2-Hearts} river. Lagodich headed to late register the RIU Reno VIII Main Event while Frye collected his third $500 bounty of the final table.

Fintan Hand - 8th Place

Fintan "Easy with Aces" Hand got his last 65,000 all in preflop and had a chance to triple up against Timothy "VaderNader" Guilford and Frank Lagodich.

Hand: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Lagodich: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Guilford: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Both active players checked the {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs} and then Guilford bet 75,000 when the {7-Clubs} turn gave him a flush draw. Lagodich ditched his hand and the {10-Clubs} spiked on the river.

Guilford made his flush and collected the Irishman's $500 bounty.

Derek Frye raised to 30,000 from middle position and called when Jerry White three-bet all in for 190,000 from the hijack.

Frye: {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}
White: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

It was a flip but White needed to improve to stay alive. That proved easier said than done as the board ran out {7-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} to give Frye the first $500 bounty of the final table.

Who Will Walk Away with the $20,400 Thursday Thrilla Top Prize?

RIU Reno VIII Thursday Thrilla Final Table
RIU Reno VIII Thursday Thrilla Final Table

The biggest buy-in tournament of the Run It Up Reno VIII – the $1,100 Thursday Thrilla – started with 178 entries battling it out at the Peppermill Casino. Today, the final eight will return to play down to a winner with Katie Lindsay and her stack of 1.104 million leading the way.

That’s nearly a third of the chips in play, more than double her next closest competition. You might recall that earlier this year Lindsay, the wife of poker pro and online poker’s winningest tournament player Chris Moorman, was a guest on the LFG Podcast, which you can listen to here.

Joining her at the final table are Timothy Guilford (497,000), Frank Lagodich (413,000), Fintan “Easy with Aces” Hand (127,000), and Max Brown (140,000), who has already improved upon his 15th-place finish in this same event last year.

Remember, each player at the table has a $500 bounty on their head.
