Katie Lindsay Holds Commanding Final Table Chip Lead

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Katie Lindsay

The biggest buy-in tournament of the Run It Up Reno VIII – the $1,100 Thursday Thrilla – started with 178 entries battling it out at the Peppermill Casino. After 10 hours of play, the field was whittled down to the final eight with Katie Lindsay and her stack of 1.104 million leading the way.

That’s nearly a third of the chips in play, more than double her next closest competition. You might recall that earlier this year Lindsay, the wife of poker pro and online poker’s winningest tournament player Chris Moorman, was a guest on the LFG Podcast, which you can listen to here.

Joining her at the final table are Timothy Guilford (497,000), Frank Lagodich (413,000), Fintan “Easy with Aces” Hand (127,000), and Max Brown (140,000), who has already improved upon his 15th-place finish in this same event last year.

The tournament offered $500 bounties on each player, meaning a regular prize pool of $82,720 was up for grabs. After Andrew Lok bubbled in 19th place, 10 more players exited in the money short of the final table including Patrick Tardif (10th - $2,400), Joel Danforth (13th - $1,500), Noel Rodriguez (16th - $1,500), and David Thomas (18th - $1,500).

Others to fire the Thursday Thrilla but fail to cash were Chris Moneymaker, Benjamin “Spraggy” Spragg, Brad Owen, Adam Owen, Jason Somerville, Evan Jarvis, Ricky “ratedGTO” Guan, Jesse Sylvia, Arlie Shaban, Tyson Apostol, and Kevin Martin.

Nathan Manuel Eliminated in 11th Place ($1,900)

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Nathan Manuel - 11th Place
Nathan Manuel - 11th Place

Action folded to Frank Lagodich on the button and he raised to 16,000. Nathan Manuel responded by three-betting all in for around 210,000 in the big blind and Lagodich called.

Lagodich: {a-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
Manuel: {a-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Lagodich had the better kicker but the {j-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop made the likelihood of a chop very high. The {q-Clubs} turn meant a chop was in store barring either a seven or eight on the river, and one of them did come.

The dealer burned and put out the {8-Spades}! Lagodich made two pair and send Manuel to the rail.

Meanwhile, Patrick Tardif was eliminated from the feature table in 10th place. That means the final nine players will bag and tag for the night. Stay tuned for chip counts and the final table seating.

Guilford's "Runnin' Good"

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Timothy Guilford
Timothy Guilford

A player jammed for 20,000 from UTG, and Timothy Guilford thought for a moment before tossing in a call in middle position.

Guilford: {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

The {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop brought Guilford a pair of nines and an open-ended straight flush draw, leaving his opponent drawing to a non-diamond ace to survive. The {3-Hearts} turn and {4-Diamonds} river improved Guilford further to a flush, and he collected another bounty.

"When you're runnin' good," Guilford said with a smile as he stacked up the chips and added the $500 bounty chip to a stack of seven he had already collected.

Frank Lagodich Swings in to the Thursday Thrilla

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante
Frank Lagodich
Frank Lagodich

Frank Lagodich just took his seat into the Thursday Thrilla, and this East Coast grinder has been putting up results in the last few months, starting with a seventh-place finish at the MSPT Michigan State Poker Championship at FireKeepers Casino in October for $33,247.

In November, he took down the $600 Borgata Fall Poker Open Kickoff event for $128,359. February saw Lagodich record a fifth-place finish in the $250 Multi-Bag Bonus Event at the WSOPC at Horseshoe Hammond. Then, just last week, Lagodich finished sixth at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown $1,100 Six-Max Event for $8,695, and managed to satellite into and play the $25,000 High Roller event.

Lagodich will be looking to add to the $203,601 in Hendon Mob reported tournament earnings he's accrued in just a fifteen month span. You can follow Lagodich on Twitter at @franktlag.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is focused on five events at the RIU Reno VIII, but there are plenty of side events throughout including last night’s $125 Win the Button NLH, a tournament played like traditional no-limit hold’em but awards the button to the winner of each pot.

The tournament attracted 175 runners and surpassed its $15,000 guarantee by generating a $16,975 prize pool. That was paid out among the top 28 players including Paul Sampson (5th - $900), Jamie Kerstetter (9th - $390), Andrew Neeme (12th - $310), Chad Holloway (14th - $250), Frank Lagodich (15th - $250), Andy Camou (21st - $200), and Arlid Orsleie (28th - $200).

In the end, Steven Filipovic of Cambridge, Ontario, Canada defeated Indiana’s Jason Pease in heads-up play to win the title and $4,125 first-place prize.
