Presley Bags Second Straight RunGoodGear Series Day 1a Lead

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Terry Presley bagged the Day 1a lead for the second straight time.
Terry Presley bagged the Day 1a lead for the second straight time.

Terry Presley finished Day 1a of RunGoodGear.com Downstream Casino with 277,500, enough to lead the nine surviving players. A month ago at RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa, Presley bagged another Day 1a lead before eventually finishing 30th for $1,122. The Arkansas native is no stranger to success here, having won an HPT event for nearly $77,000 in 2012.

Others among the "final table" on Day 1a included sponsored tour pros Chris Conrad (176,500), Justin Gardenhire (100,000), and Bernard Lee (39,500). Issac "Rungood" Tucker (255,500), David Murff (176,000), JW Lorett (169,500), Carroll Christiansen (124,500), and Gene Alloway (86,500) rounded out the advancing group, out of a total of 90 players.

Presley's big move came in Level 14 (1,500/3,000/500). He raised to 7,000 when action folded to his small blind and then called a three-bet to about 15,000 from Will Berry. Presley then led out 30,000 on the {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop, and Berry shoved all in. Presley called it off for about 100,000 with {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flopped flush, while Berry had {a-}{a-} with no heart. He was drawing dead after the {4-Diamonds} turn. Berry had a huge stack at the time, so he wasn't out of it, but he eventually fell in 10th to finish empty-handed.

Later in that same level, Lee opened for 7,200 and was called by Presley. Lee check-called 8,000 on an {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop. He check-called another 12,000 on the {9-Spades} turn. An {a-Spades} made trips on the board, and Lee checked once more. Presley bet 15,000, and Lee quickly called.

Presley showed {a-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for quads.

"Unbelievable," an upset Lee said in disgust. "The perfect card on the river for you. I had kings."

Tucker, who grabbed the lead late before Presley busted Berry to retake it, was a more consistent presence at the top of the counts. He rocketed to a big stack early after reportedly cracking aces with a set of sevens and kept it rolling throughout the day.

Some of the players who failed to make it to the end of Day 1a included Bryan Campanello, Lauren Kling, Michael Sanders, Ben Reason, Amanda Baker, Ryan Tepen, Joe Hebda, Brady Bullard, Jonathan Gaviao, and Ross Bybee.

Bullard had to stomach a painful exit at the hands of Conrad, who four-bet all in after a Bullard three-bet. Bullard called with {j-}{j-} and flopped a set, but Conrad ran a flush with {a-}{k-}.

Bullard and Bybee were two of the four players who chopped RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa last month, each taking home around $24,000. If they want to repeat the feat, they'll have to return for Saturday's Day 1b. PokerNews will be back for then for more coverage of this event at 1 p.m. local time.

Lee continued to mutter to himself in amazement and disgust after the players cleared out for a 15-minute break.

Gauthier Binks a Miracle Agains Blase

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Lauren Blase thought she had a winner after the flop.
Lauren Blase thought she had a winner after the flop.

Lauren Blase opened for what looked to be about 6,000 and then called the shove of Dalue Gauthier, who had 12,900.

Gauthier: {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}
Blase: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}

"Ah, I'm way behind," Blase said in disappointment.

She went to way ahead after the {j-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop, though.

"Always right there," Gauthier said of the dreaded ace.

A {j-Spades} turn left him drawing to just the {k-Clubs} on the river, but amazingly enough, it appeared, causing some shouts from the players.

Conrad Busts Bullard

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Brady Bullard busted late in Day 1a.
Brady Bullard busted late in Day 1a.

According to the players at Brady Bullard's old table, Bullard three-bet an open from Chris Conrad, and Conrad four-bet shoved. Bullard called, and he flopped a set with {j-}{j-}, only to see Conrad run a flush with {a-}{k-}.

Bullard, an Oklahoma native who is one of the four who chopped last month's RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa, will more than likely be back tomorrow for Day 1b.

Berry Battling Short Stacks

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 300 ante
Will Berry
Will Berry

Will Berry opened for a raise and then called the shove of Lauren Blase, who had approximately 20,000.

Berry: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Blase: {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {10-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, giving Blase the double.

The next hand, Berry opened again and saw a short stack shove on him. This time, it was Ryan Tepen, who had 26,700.

Berry: {a-Spades}{8-Spades}
Tepen: {2-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}

Tepen kept his lead on the {10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop, but a {5-Diamonds} turn left him in danger of being counterfeited. That's exactly what happened as the {k-Hearts} hit the river, and Berry took the pot with ace-high.

Tepen Finishes Bybee

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 200 ante
Ross Bybee
Ross Bybee

Ross Bybee lost the majority of his stack to an opponent who flopped a set of queens, though we didn't see Bybee's hand.

The next hand, he was all in for his last 1,900 and called in two spots. The two active players checked through until the board read {j-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}, when Ryan Tepen bet 5,000. His opponent folded, and Tepen turned over {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}. Bybee showed what looked like {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} before the dealer swept it up.

Tucker Still Climbing

Issac "Rungood" Tucker has a big early stack.

Bernard Lee bet 1,725 into a pot of about 4,000 on a {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop. Rodney Spriggs shoved all in for 2,400, and Issac "Rungood" Tucker made the call from the button. Lee called also, and both players checked the {a-Spades} turn. On the {9-Hearts} river, Lee checked and then called 7,000 from Tucker.

Tucker showed {10-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for trips.

"So sick," Lee said. "So frickin' sick."

Lee said he had ace-king, and we didn't see Spriggs' hand.

Walker Binks Turn to KO Three

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Julie Walker
Julie Walker

We arrived at Table 15 as the dealer was sorting out side pots for a four-way all in on a flop of {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. After the three pots were separated, the cards were flipped.

Julie Walker: {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}
Middle position: {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Late position: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Cutoff: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The player in middle position was in great shape with a set, as the two players with top pair were drawing very slim. Walker found the {q-Clubs} on the turn though, filling her double-gutshot straight draw.

"Pair the board," the player with sevens said.

"Don't pair it," Walker countered.

It was the latter, as a {2-Hearts} fell, and Walker dragged the massive early pot.

Lee Off to a Good Start

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Bernard Lee, pictured at RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa.
Bernard Lee, pictured at RunGoodGear.com Hard Rock Tulsa.

According to Bernard Lee, he got off to a fast start with an early double after limping in with {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The blinds came along, and an {a-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop gave Lee middle pair, which he bet for 125 after two checks. The small blind folded, and the big blind made it 300. Lee called, and a {7-Hearts} gave him a flush draw, which prompted him to call 900. On the {2-Hearts} river, the big blind shoved for more than 13,000, and Lee called.

His opponent showed {7-}{7-} for a set on the turn, not enough to beat Lee's flush.
