Sartin Leads as 34 More Bag in Day 1c Turnout

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Russell Sartin
Russell Sartin

Through two flights of the inaugural RunGood Cup Championship, 231 players turned up for the $100,000 guaranteed tournament. A massive Day 1c turnout of 172 showed up at Harrah's New Orleans to push the prize pool past the $230,000 mark, and local player Russell Sartin finished with the most chips when he bagged 210,000.

A total of 34 players made it through the flight. Others who bagged big stacks were My Nguyen (196,000), Clinton Morgan (193,000), and James Hall (184,000). Andrew Bulliard (156,000), Lou Barlow (129,000), Andrew Brock (106,000), Jeff Bryan (98,500), and RunGood Pro Jonathan Gaviao (23,000) also survived.

Gaviao looked like he was going to bag a nice stack after taking a 92,000 pot in Level 11 (1,000/2,000/300) when his {k-}{k-} cracked the {a-}{a-} of Megan Thomson, but he said he ran into a rut late when he got queens in on an eight-high flop against a player holding {j-}{8-} who proceeded to run out a full house.

A number of notable players fired on Day 1c but failed to make it through, including RunGood Pros Michael Sanders, Ross Bybee, Bernard Lee, Ben Reason, Duma Lowery, Mina Greco, and Dan "Wretchy" Martin.

Wretch had a rather wretched run late, first getting {a-}{k-} in three ways against {j-}{j-} and {k-}{j-} and losing to a one-outer after a {k-}{k-}{5-} flop. Then, he got his remaining chips in with {k-}{k-} only to see a player with {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} run a flush.

A total of 81 players will be returning Sunday for Day 2, which kicks off at noon.

Wretchy Short After Brutal River

Level 12 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Dan Martin
Dan Martin

Dan "Wretchy" Martin said action folded to the player on the button, who shoved all in with {k-}{j-}. Martin jammed with {a-}{k-}, and the player in the big blind called off with {j-}{j-}. Martin said the flop came {k-}{k-}{5-}, giving him a near lock, but the river was the last {j-} in the deck, leaving him in last place. The RunGood Pro is now in desperation mode with just a few blinds.

RunGood Cup Championship Day 1c

Day 1c of RunGood Cup Championship drew 172 runners to push the three-day total to 403. We'll have prize pool information up when it's made available.

From 4,550 to 24,000

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Ben Thomas
Ben Thomas

Ben Thomas got his last 4,550 in preflop and was called in four spots. A {4-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop his the felt, and a player in early position bet 10,000 after one check. Everyone else mucked.

Thomas: {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

Thomas was leading but fading quite a few outs. The turn and river were both red bricks, and Thomas found new life.

Custer Rides With Aces

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante
Justin Custer, pictured at RunGood Hard Rock Tulsa

There was a {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop on the felt and we found Justin Custer pushing all in for 17,175 in the small blind, with Joshua Steinberg in middle position having called off his stack of 16,775. The player on the button had a T5,000 chip in front of him and he called as well.

Custer: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Steinberg: {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Button: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Steinberg's pumped his fist when he hit the {2-Hearts} on the turn to fill his flush, and only a heart would cost him the pot on the end. The river was a {5-Spades}, harmlessly pairing the board.
