Big Slick Does the Trick for Martin

John Martin
John Martin

Lawrence Layton raised to 3,000 from the hijack and called when John Martin three-bet jammed for 9,500 from the small blind.

John Martin: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Lawrence Layton: {q-Spades}{10-Spades}

Martin was ahead but Layton was drawing to two live cards. The {k-Spades}{2-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop gave Martin a big lead and he improved to two pair on the {a-Hearts} turn. However, Layton could still win with Broadway if a jack appeared on the river.

The dealer burned one last time and put out the {4-Diamonds}. It was a brick and Martin shipped the double.

Bunch Done and Dusted

Lauren Bunch
Lauren Bunch

The preflop action escaped us but we do know that Lauren Bunch got her stack of 25,600 all in and she was at risk against Stephan Guy.

Lauren Bunch: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Stephan Guy: {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}

Bunch got it in good but fell way behind when the {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{a-Clubs} flop paired Guy. Neither the {3-Hearts} turn nor {9-Clubs} river helped Bunch and she headed for the exit.

Justin Gardenhire
Justin Gardenhire

Throughout the week, the RGPS has been hosting a series of side events here at Hard Rock Tulsa. One of those tournaments was the $230 buy-in RGPS Hard Rock Tulsa Pot-Limit Omaha event with rebuys. The tournament attracted 48 runners and offered up a $7,600 prize pool.

The final six were slated to get paid, and when it reached that point the remaining half dozen players opted to work a deal.

It resulted in RG Ambassador Justin Gardenhire, who bagged up the Day 1a chip leader here in the RGPS Hard Rock Tulsa Main Event, taking the title, $7,600 in prize money, and the championship Signature Ring.

Wu Busted While Waxman Gets Lucky to More than Double

Tricia Wu
Tricia Wu

We picked up the action on a {5-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} flop with a good amount of chips already in the middle. It appeared as if Matt Waxman had checked from the small blind and Tricia Wu did the same from the big. Bob Mather bet 7,000 from middle position and Waxman called.

Wu then woke up with an all-in check-raise for 18,700 more and Mather jammed over the top. Waxman, who had 27,800 on top of Wu's shove thought long and hard before calling off.

Tricia Wu: {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Bob Mather: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Matt Waxman: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Wu was on the nut flush draw, Waxman had top pair, and Mather was out in front with the pocket kings.

The {10-Hearts} turn was of no consequence, but the {q-Spades} river was as Waxman tripped up to steal the big pot and send Wu to the rail.

Garry Finishes Off Ross

Thomas Ross
Thomas Ross

Thomas Ross got his last 9,700 all in preflop and found himself at risk against Fred Garry.

Fred Garry: {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
Thomas Ross: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Ross got it in good but fell behind when the {q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop paired Garry. The {8-Diamonds} turn didn't do Ross any favors and the {9-Clubs} put an end to his run here on Day 1b. Fortunately, he only has to wait a couple of hours for the Day 1c flight if he wants to give it another go.

Lee Sends Khan to the Rail

Bernard Lee
Bernard Lee

In the last hand of Level 10, Mashir Khan raised to 4,300 from the hijack and RG Ambassador Bernard Lee defended his big blind to see a {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop.

Lee checked, Khan moved all in for 31,300, and Lee thought for about a minute before making the call.

Mashir Khan: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Bernard Lee: {q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}

Lee had flopped top pair to crack Khan's nines, and he maintained that lead through both the {5-Hearts} turn and {8-Spades} river.
