JJ Kuchenmeister Crushes Day 1bc, Takes Overall Chip Lead

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
JJ Kuchenmeister
JJ Kuchenmeister

Saturday was a long day at Horseshoe Tunica with the final two main event flights of the RunGood Poker Series main event.

There were a total of 523 entries into this $100,000 Guarantee and JJ Kuchenmeister finished with a massive 655,000 and will lead the final 114 players into Day 2 Sunday at noon.

Kuchenmeister ran hot, especially toward the end of the day. He eliminated Hanna Guthrie when he called a three-bet in position and flopped trips against Guthrie's pocket kings. He won a three-way all in to eliminate Matt Johnson and Chris Hanks when he made a straight on the river after Hanks and Johnson both flopped better.

Kuchenmeister then eliminated WSOP main event champion and current RGPS All-Star casino champion leader Chris Moneymaker. Moneymaker had kings and Kuchenmeister flopped a set of sevens to crack 600,000 and eliminate Moneymaker a few hands before bagging.

Kuchenmeister has a good head start toward the $60,141 top prize and the All-Star tournament seat and championship ring.

The top 54 make the money and a min-cash is worth $968.

The players will return at noon Sunday to play down to a winner and Sunday will also determine who will win the casino championship and claim the other All-Star tournament seat.

All the tournament updates and photos will be right here on PokerNews.com as the RGPS crowns it's newest champions.

Johnson: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Hanks: {j-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Kuchenmeister: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Kuchenmeister made broadway on the river to eliminate both his opponents.

Hannah Guthrie Eliminated by JJ Kuchenmeister

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Hannah Guthrie
Hannah Guthrie

JJ Kuchenmeister opened to 5,000 from early position and Hannah Guthrie made it 18,000 to go from the small blind.

Kuchenmeister called.

The flop came {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{4-Spades} and Guthrie checked. Kuchenmeister bet 15,000 and Guthrie raised to 35,000.

Kuchenmeister moved all in and Guthrie seemed a little bothered, but eventually gathered her remaining 30,000 or so and called with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}.

Kuchenmeister had {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

The turn was the {10-Spades} and the fiver was the {4-Diamonds} and Kuchenmeister won the hand to eliminate Guthrie with about 40 minutes left in the day.

David Hendrix Moving Up

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
David Hendrix
David Hendrix

David Hendrix sent his opponent to the rail after the action left him with 100 chips on the river.

The board read {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and he put in his last 100 and Hendrix called with {a-}{9-} against the {j-}{j-} of his opponent.

Hendrix has now doubled his starting stack. Hendrix has one career cash for $350 bucks. A min-cash in the RGPS main event would be his largest cash to date.

RGPS Tunica Horseshoe Main Event Players: Tyler Burke

Tyler Burke
Tyler Burke

Tyler Burke has the day off today and tomorrow and is looking to bag the RunGood Poker Series main event here at Horseshoe Tunica.

He is a dealer and a part-time streamer. Burke streams poker and video games and has been doing it for about three years.

When we spoke to him last time the RGPS visited the Horseshoe, he said he had a pretty big downswing and decided to take the rest of his bankroll and buy a really nice computer. He now says he is having way more fun than when he was playing poker.

"It's kind of nice to get home from work and just have a beer and play games with your friends," he said.

Burke has been struggling to get going in the tournament today.

On this hand he pulled in a few chips after opening from early position to 1,600 and getting a call from the big blind.

Burke c-bet the {k-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop and the big blind folded.

RGPS Tunica Main Event: Sam Washburn

Sam Washburn
Sam Washburn

Sam Washburn has won two WSOP circuit rings at Horseshoe Tunica, including one main event for $188,068 — the biggest cash of his career.

He has $290,293 in career tournament winnings on 12 results and has won an RGPS main event (RGPS Tulsa November 2019).

He is also fresh off a good run at RGPS Downstream where he was crowned casino champion with 32.5 points. Washburn made two final tables and is the first player of the All-Star season to win casino champion without winning a tournament.

Washburn is in the field today, looking to gain some traction and move on to Day 2 Sunday for a shot at another RGPS main event title.

Two More Starting Flights for RGPS Horseshoe Tunica Main Event

RGPS All-Star Rings
RGPS All-Star Rings

The RunGood Poker Series main event at Horseshoe Tunica continues Saturday with two more starting flights.

The first flight is at noon and the second is at 7 p.m.

Friday night, Derrick Contreras bagged the chip lead for the opening flight with 222,000 and will lead 38 other players into Day 2 from that starting flight.

The opening flight got 137 players and both of Saturday's flights are expected to be much larger. The players will start with 20,000 chips and play 12 30-minute levels. There is no dinner break and registration will close at the start of level nine in each starting flight.

The RGPS Tunica main event is usually the largest field of all the RGPS main events and it's looking like that will continue to be the case.

World Series of Poker main event champion Chris Moneymaker will likely be in the field again today, after failing to bag in the opening flight. Mark Lafata, David Hendrix, Tiffany Keathley, and Justin Gardenhire are also expected to be in the field at some point today. Lafata is a regular in the RGPS and Hendrix is a local who makes it to many of the RGPS events at the Horseshoe.

Keathley is a former winner of this very main event and will most likely take at least one more shot at bagging for Day 2.

PokerNews.com will be here throughout the weekend with photos and updates of the event until the newest RGPS main event champion is crowned.
