RGPS Cleveland Main Event Day 1b Set to Build on Impressive Opening Flight

Jack Cleveland Casino
Jack Cleveland Casino

Welcome to Day 1b of the RunGood Poker Series Cleveland $800 Main Event. Today’s flight is the second of three opening days of the tournament, and if yesterday’s action is an indicator of what’s to come, the Jack Cleveland Casino is in for another incredible day of poker.

Anthony Carbone bagged the biggest stack of Day 1a, earning 500,000 chips to take into Sunday’s Day 2 after winning a massive pot at the end of the night that could have seen Connor Zhu take a nearly 800,000 chip stack to Sunday had his ace-queen not run into Carbone’s aces.

Day 1b will get cards in the air at 12:15 p.m. local time with 15 40-minute levels scheduled, however, after the fast and furious action in Day 1a, the alternate ending of 15 percent of the field remaining easily hit early in Level 13. Should today’s field reach its final 15 percent prior to the end of Level 15, that again would be the case.

Players will start their day with 30,000 chips at opening blinds of 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. Registration will remain open until the start of Level 10 and re-entries are unlimited.

Players will have a 15-minute break after every third level, with a 60-minute dinner break at the end of Level 9.

The tournament has a $250,000 guarantee, and after 186 entries on Day 1a, a similar total in this flight would send the event past that number already, even before Saturday’s final opening flight.

Players who survive Day 1b with a short stack will have the opportunity to play in Day 1c in hopes of accumulating a bigger stack to take to Day 2 instead.

Be sure to stay with PokerNews for live reporting from each day of action until the first-ever RGPS Cleveland Main Event champion is crowned.

Death by Quads in First Level

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Albert Augustine
Albert Augustine

After a raise to 1,100 in middle position, and a call from the hijack, Albert Augustine called on the button.

DeMarcus Ivy then three-bet to 2,600 from the small blind and got calls from all three of his opponents.

The flop came {10-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Ivy continued for 5,000. Augustine accidentally called out of turn, with the middle position player and the hijack then folding.

Augustine's call stayed in the pot and the {10-Clubs} fell on the turn. Ivy now check-called a bet of 10,000 from Augustine, leaving himself approximately 17,000 behind.

On the {2-Hearts} river, Ivy flicked out a bet of 5,000 and Augustine moved all in. Ivy called to see Augustine's {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for quad tens. Ivy showed {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and left the table as his chips were pushed to Augustine.

Pagan Sends Anderson Back to the Cage

Level 4 : Blinds 300/500, 500 ante
James Anderson
James Anderson

Cards were on their backs and James Anderson was leaving his seat as a large pot was being pushed to Felipe Pagan.

Pagan passed along details of the key action from the hand, as with approximately 25,000 in the pot on a completed board of {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, Pagan bet 20,000 and was raised all-in by Anderson for a bit less than 40,000.

Pagan called with {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a rivered full house to take down Anderson's {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, which had turned Broadway, but got cracked on the river by Pagan's full house.

Odom's Quads Send Bahhur to the Rail

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Khalid Bahhur
Khalid Bahhur

Khalid Bahhur got his last 11,000 in from the small blind against Jason Odom on the button.

Khalid Bahhur: {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
Jason Odom: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, giving Odom a set of queens, but Bahhur had plenty of outs with a flush draw and a gutshot straight draw.

The {8-Spades} on the turn brought no help, and the {q-Spades} on the river gave Odom quad queens to win the hand and send Bahhur to the rail.

Meyers Roars Over 100,000

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Chris Meyers
Chris Meyers

With just over 50,000 in the middle on a completed board of {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{2-Diamonds} Chris Meyers put a stack of brown T-5,000 chips forward which appeared to just cover his opponent who had checked in the small blind.

The small blind went deep into the tank, thinking for a couple of minutes before flicking in a calling chip.

Meyers showed {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a flopped two pair. The small blind mucked his hand, then counted down his stack which indeed was just covered by Meyers, who dragged the huge pot to put himself among the larger stacks in the room.

Stone Applies Maximum Pressure to Augustine

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Chad Stone
Chad Stone

After Albert Augustine limped in early position, Chad Stone raised to 7,000 in middle position. Augustine called and the duo saw a flop of {j-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{7-Spades}.

Augustine check-called a bet of 10,000 from Stone, then checked again on the {5-Diamonds} turn.

Stone now brought the hammer down, moving all-in for Augustine's remaining 76,000 chips.

Augustine quickly folded and Stone gave Augustine a courtesy look at {k-Spades}{j-Spades} for a flopped top two pair.

Miscommunication Seemingly Costs Iacovone

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Michele Iacovonezo
Michele Iacovonezo

Micahel Volk raised to 4,000 under the gun and was called by Michele Iacovione in the big blind.

On the {5-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop, Iacovone check-called a bet of 6,000 by Volk to see the {7-Diamonds}.

After a brief pause, Volk made a checking motion, assuming that Iacovone had checked. Iacovone was adamant that he had not acted, then frustratedly checked, with Volk again quickly checking behind.

The {q-Diamonds} then fell on the river, and after Iacovone checked, Volk checked once more, then rolled over {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} for a rivered pair of queens.

Iacovone laughed to himself and shook his head slightly before sending his cards to the muck. Regarless, Iacovone still holds a big stack of well over 200,000 chips.

Stone Regains Chip Lead With Ace-King Cooler

Level 11 : Blinds 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Chad Stone
Chad Stone

A commotion was heard at Table 21 as a large pot was being pushed to Chad Stone, whose stack has moved above 300,000 after an incredible runout.

Stone and his opponent got 65,000 in before the flop with Stone's opponent at risk. Stone held {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and the at-risk player held {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

The {5-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop couldn't have been better for Stone, bringing him a flush draw.

The {6-Hearts} turn brought no help, but after Stone called for one more diamond, in it slid with the {3-Diamonds} on the river to give Stone the unlikely pot.

Stone Rocked by Henderson, Eliminated Near Day 2 Bubble

Level 13 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Chad Stone
Chad Stone

With nearly 100,000 in the middle on a turn board of {6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, Chad Stone moved all in from the big blind for 81,000.

He was called in middle position by Dan Henderson, who had Stone dominated and at risk.

Chad Stone: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}
Dan Henderson: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The turn {9-Diamonds} and river {k-Clubs} couldn't save Stone, and one of the players who not long ago was near the chip lead finds himself needing to fire again on Day 1c.

With his elimination, just two more players need to bust to bring the day to a close.

Katip's First Ever Bag Is the Chip Lead at RGPS Cleveland Main Event

Scott Katip
Scott Katip

After a thrilling day of poker that saw a huge field of 252 entrants whittled down to 37 survivors, it’s Scott Katip taking 568,000 chips and the Day 1b chip lead into Sunday’s Day 2 of the RunGood Poker Series Cleveland $800 Main Event. His total also surpasses the 500,000 collected by Anthony Carbone who claimed the Day 1a chip lead.

Katip, who told PokerNews that this was his first time bagging a live tournament was the only player to surpass the 500,000 chip mark.

Not far behind him though are Daniel Swartz (498,000), Dan Henderson (420,000), and Taylor Howard (411,000).

Day 1b Action

Play wrapped up for the night with 12:16 remaining in Level 13 as the field was thinned to its final 15 percent.

Several players took turns with the chip lead in the later stages of the day including Michele Iacovone, who finished just outside the top ten with 266,000, but Boris Kravets, Dan Wagner, and Chad Stone each saw their once significant stacks disappear very late in the day.

Others who survived the day included Bradley Rogoff (210,000) and Dean Schultz (187,000) while such notables as WSOP bracelet winner Chris Tryba and PokerNews’ own WSOP bracelet winner Chad Holloway were not as fortunate.

Tryba fell in a pot that gave Katip the chip lead, while Holloway was ousted in a double elimination on the stone bubble.
