Welcome To Day 2 of the RunGood Poker Series Contenders Council Bluffs $575 Main Event

Brett Reichard
Brett Reichard

Sunday is marathon day at the RunGood Poker Series Contenders Council Bluffs $575 Main Event, and 137 players will return to Horseshoe Councill Bluffs with their hopes of being the one player to outlast everybody else. A total of 813 entries were recorded over the tournament's three starting flights this weekend, and an extended day at the felt will see the eventual champion earn themselves $80,853.

Entering the day with the overall chip lead is Brett Reichard (465,500), whose late-night surge in last night's final flight ultimately left him more than 40% clear of his next closest competitor in Day 1a chip leader Isidro Sandoval (331,000). Day 1b chip leader Daniel Thomas starts the day in third, and Mike Vanier and Beriz Turnadzic round out the top five, each with a stack of 277,500.

Other notable players in contention include Luke Blindert (235,000), Ryan Phan (175,500), Mark Fink (136,000), Johnnie Moreno (91,000), and RunGood Ambassador Blair Hinkle (74,500).

Play will resume with six minutes remaining in Level 13 (2K/3K/3K) and continue with 45-minute levels until the start of Level 22 (15K/25K/25K). The top 90 places will be paid, meaning about 35% of the returning field will walk away empty-handed. Everybody who does make it into the money will earn a min-cash of $937, with payouts increasing regularly all the way through to the finish.

Cards are in the air at 11 a.m. local time, and a full day of action-filled poker will be getting underway shortly. PokerNews will be on hand to keep you updated every step of the way, so don't go anywhere.

Saif Sayah
Saif Sayah

On the very first hand of the day at Table 3 moments ago, Nancy McDonald opened to 12,500 in early position and was called by Saif Sayah in the small blind. The flop came {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs} and Sayah checked to McDonald, who continuation-bet 8,000.

Action checked through the turn {7-Hearts} and the river came {7-Diamonds}. The rest of the chips made it into the center, and the room erupted.

McDonald: {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}
Sayah: {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

McDonald had hit running sevens to make quads, only to see Sayah turn over a flopped Royal Flush to eliminate her from the tournament.

Dunn: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

Phan was unable to find a nine on the runout {8-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{j-Spades} and was eliminated in 91st place as the Bubble Boy of the RGPS Conteners Tunica $575 Main Event.

David Caron Eliminated in 17th Place ($4,150)

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
David Caron
David Caron

Mike Henrich opened to 65,000 in middle position and saw Dan Dykhouse re-jam in the hijack. David Caron called all in for 40,000 in the small blind and Henrich announced a call all in for less.

Caron: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}
Henrich: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Dykhouse: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

A jack appeared on the flop {j-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds} to put Henrich out in front, where he further improved to top two pair as the turn {a-Clubs} and river {4-Clubs} completed the runout. His stack was totaled to be 440,000, and Dykhouse was left with just 80,000 after paying him off.

On the next hand, however, Dykhouse quadrupled after preflop action culminated with an isolation-raise from Jeff Tebben's {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}, which left him flipping for his tournament life with {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}. Two kings came on the flop and Dykhouse was back in action.

Caron's elimination brings the field down to 16.

Jeff Tebben Eliminated in 16th Place ($4,150)

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Jeff Tebben
Jeff Tebben

Jeff Tebben re-jammed for his last 200,000 in the small blind after facing an open from Donald Nimneh on the button. Nimneh called.

"You're ahead," said Tebben as he showed {8-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Nimneh tabled {a-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The flop came {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} to give Tebben eight straight outs in addition to his two live cards.

"That's not the worst flop," Tebben stated. The turn came {k-Diamonds}, and he changed his tune upon adding diamond flush outs: "Oh, now I have too many outs. I can't hit," he said. He was right, as the board paired on the river {7-Hearts} and he was eliminated in 16th place.

With 15 players now remaining, all in contention are guaranteed a payday of at least $5,038.

Rob Palacios opened to 90,000 in the hijack and Travis Bettcher re-jammed for 355,000 in the small blind. Palacios immediately announced a call and showed Bettcher the bad news.

Bettcher: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Palacios: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

"Nice hand," Bettcher acknowledged. "It happens," he added of his tournament fate as the runout {7-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{q-Spades} resulted in him taking 15th place in the tournament.

Dan Dykhouse Eliminated in 14th Place ($5,038)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Dan Dykhouse
Dan Dykhouse

Dan Dykhouse open-jammed in the hijack for around 500,000 and ClubGG Qualifier Vicki McKee immediately dropped two chips onto the felt thereafter from the cutoff. All remaining players folded.

"Do you have aces?" asked Dykhouse, given the quick nature of McKee's call. He showed {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} as McKee told him that she did not have aces. Instead, she had {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, the hot hand at the table over the past 90 minutes.

"That hurts," remarked Dykhouse, having been on the wrong end of a hand with pocket nines earlier for a large pot. Unfortunately for him, McKee's nines bested his sixes as the runout {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{k-Clubs} changed nothing and resulted in him taking 14th place.

Shem Yusuf

Shem Yusuf was in the big blind and saw an open to 65,000 and a call before Nick Barksdale three-bet to 220,000 in the small blind. Yusuf re-jammed in the big blind for a bit more than 300,000 and action folded back to Barksdale, who called.

Yusuf: {a-}{k-}
Barksdale: {10-}{10-}

The runout was all Barksdale, with a ten on the flop and a paired board on the turn to give him a full house and eliminate Yusuf in 13th place.
