Kenny Dang Bags Overall Day 1 Chip Lead of RGPS Contenders Tunica $575 Main Event

Level 12 : 1,500/2,500, 2,500 ante
Kenny Dang

Two full starting flights played to their conclusion Saturday inside the Horseshoe Casino Tunica for the 2022 RunGood Poker Series Contenders Tour Tunica $575 Main Event. Noon's Day 1b drew 245 entries and 7 p.m.'s Day 1c added another 173 to that tally, bringing the grand total to 602 entries for the tournament.

Coming into the day, Nashville's Donnie Phan (213,000) was the one to catch, and at least a handful of players did so with Richard Bolden (291,500) bagging the Day 1b chip lead to begin that trend. However, Day 1c chip leader Kenny Dang eclipsed that number, finishing play with 352,500 after a late-night surge saw multiple players' stacks end up becoming part of his.

In total, 61 players advanced from the first flight and another 43 made it through later in the evening. Barry Schultz (280,000), Thomas Canter (246,000), and ClubGG qualifier Hao Zhu (225,500) also finished with stacks above that of Day 1a chip leader Phan.

A perfect 25% of all three flights made it through their respective days, meaning 150 players from the 602 total entries will return for Sunday's Day 2 at noon local time to play down to a winner. Other notables on that list include RunGood Ambassador Julie Cornelius (187,500), BJ McBrayer (145,500), Mark Kehrees (126,500), former RGPS Tunica Main Event Champion Tiffany Keathley (117,500), and Event #5 ($200 Double Green Chip Bounty) Winner Chad Marsh (82,000).

Of the 150 to advance, 63 will make it into the money, with a first-level payout good for $1,023. Meanwhile, the eventual champion will earn $66,849, the RunGood Trophy, and a seat to the 2022 RunGood Pro-Am set to be played later this year at the PokerGo Studio in Las Vegas. Dakotah O'Dell Eyeing Back-To-Back RGPS Main Event Final Tables

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Dakotah O'Dell
Dakotah O'Dell

It was just two weeks ago that Dakotah O'Dell found himself down to the final four of the RGPS Contenders Council Bluffs $575 Main Event, where he agreed to a chop that netted himself and the other three remaining players $48,771 (another of whom was Kaleb Dunn, also present in this event).

Though the money was settled, the four remaining players agreed to play down to a winner nonetheless to see who would claim the trophy and accompanying RunGood Pro-Am seat that will be run later this year. From there, it didn't take long for O'Dell to be the one to come out on top.

The score was the largest of O'Dell's career, with his lifetime Hendon Mob live earnings now totaling $82,233. Prior to that, his other largest score was also at Horseshoe Council Bluffs, when he took third place in a $525 Main Event from 390 entries this past the New Years for $17,822.

Now, O'Dell has come further south to test the waters along the Mississippi, and after getting bounced from this afternoon's Day 1b flight earlier, he is back in action on Day 1c. We'll be sure to follow O'Dell's journey to see if he can make back-to-back deep runs here in Tunica.

Heinze Takes One Down

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Joshua Heinze
Joshua Heinze

Four players limped as action made its way around the table to Joshua Heinze in the small blind, who pumped it up to 2,100. The big blind folded, as did the first three limpers, and then the player on the button called to take postflop action heads up.

Heinze continuation-bet 2,000 on {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and the player on the button quickly called. Both players checked through {4-Spades} and the board completed with {6-Clubs}. Heinze reached for chips and threw 6,200 onto the felt, sending his opponent into the tank. Half a minute later, the player folded and the pot was shipped Heinze's way.

Cornelius Makes the Right Call

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Julie Cornelius in Day 1a action
Julie Cornelius in Day 1a action

RunGood Ambassador Julie Cornelius called an under-the-gun open to 4,000 from middle position and went heads up to a flop of {q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. The original raiser continuation-bet 3,000 and Cornelius raised to 11,000, receiving a call.

The turn came {5-Hearts} and the original raiser led out, sliding his stack of 33,000 forward onto the felt. Cornelius went into the tank for over a minute.

"I definitely had the best hand on the flop," she said out loud amidst her thought process. Eventually, she found a call.

All-In Player: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}
Cornelius: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Cornelius's top pair, top kicker was ahead of her opponent's top pair and king kicker, leaving her with just three outs to fade for the knockout. The river {10-Clubs} came in compliant fashion and the pot was shipped her way.

Level 9 is now underway with the tournament clock displaying 245 entries for Day 1b, bringing the two-flight total up to 429. Four more levels of play remain for the flight, with all left in contention at the end of Level 12 set to join the 46 players who advanced from last night's Day 1a flight.

Just over 100 players remain, as 12 tables are still left in play.

Reynolds Doubles with the Nuts

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Kyle Reynolds
Kyle Reynolds

Kyle Reynolds opened to 1,800 in early position and was called by the hijack as well as ClubGG Qualifier John "CaptJohnHook" Terrano in the big blind.

The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Terrano checked to Reynolds, who continuation-bet 3,200. The hijack called and then Terrano announced a check-raise to the minimum value of 6,400. Reynolds called and the hijack thought for a few moments before folding.

Heads-up action continued to the turn {a-Hearts} and Terrano continued for 12,000. Reynolds announced he was all in and Terrano called.

Reynolds: {k-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Terrano: {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

The turn had given Terrano top two pair but also improved Reynolds to Broadway, which remained the nuts as the river {6-Clubs} completed the runout and scored him the double.

"Nice hand, bro," said Terrano as Reynolds's stack of 25,800 was counted. Terrano sent the requisite amount across the table, and Reynodls now finds himself with over three starting stacks nearing the halfway point in Day 1b.

Marsh Mashes the Board

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Chad Marsh
Chad Marsh

The board read {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Spades} with heads-up action between Chad Marsh in the hijack and an opponent in the small blind. A small pile of chips was already in the middle and Marsh bet 3,500 after his opponent checked to him. The small blind called and the river came {8-Hearts}, prompting him to lead out with an all-in bet of around 6,000 more. Marsh immediately called.

Small Blind: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Marsh: {q-Spades}{j-Spades}

The small blind jammed on the river after completing his straight, but Marsh had turned a flush in addition to making an unnecessary higher straight by the river, too. The pot was shipped Marsh's way, and he now has over 40K. Marsh is looking to make his second run of the series, having also taken down event #5: $200 Double Green Chip Bounty for $3,295 plus bounties.

A Couple of Hands at Table 19

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Kevin Mofield
Kevin Mofield

Hand #1: Josh Claus raised to 1,200 from the small blind over a middle-position limper and saw Kaleb Dunn three-bet to 4,300 in the big blind. Claus called to take action heads up to a flop of {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, where both players checked.

The turn was {4-Clubs} and Claus bet 6,000. Dunn made the call, and action checked through the river {2-Hearts} to take the hand to showdown.

Claus tabled {a-Spades}{9-Clubs} for a flopped top pair, top kicker that became nines up on the board-pairing river. Dunn shook his head and sent his cards to the muck, finding himself below 10,000 after losing the hand.

Hand #2: Two hands later, Claus opened to 1,200 once more in the cutoff and Kevin Mofield called in the big blind. The flop came {6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades} and Mofield checked. Claus continuation-bet 2,300 and Mofield check-jammed for 8,200.

"I call," announced Claus. "I have a gutshot," he added, tabling {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Mofield showed {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for bottom pair with the same gutter, and the turn {4-Spades} improved him to two pair. He was able to fade disaster on the river {8-Spades} and scooped the double at Claus's expense.

Welcome To Day 1bc of the RunGood Poker Series Contenders Tunica $575 Main Event

Horseshoe Tunica
Horseshoe Tunica

The RunGood Poker Series Contenders Tour(RGPS) continues with its final starting day of the Horseshoe Tunica $575 Main Event, which will look to have a full room of action as two flights will take place in back-to-back fashion at noon and 7 p.m. local time, respectively.

Days 1b and 1c will follow in the footsteps of Friday night's Day 1a, which drew 184 entries to kick off the Main Event. In that flight, 12 half-hour levels were played to their completion and 46 players made their way through to Sunday's Day 2. Whoever joins that list today will be up against plenty of formidable opponents from the initial flight, too, though everybody will be gunning for Donnie Phan's top stack of 213,000.

Like Friday's flight, players receive starting stacks of 25,000 and will look to play 12 levels of 30 minutes apiece. Blinds begin at 100/100 and increase regularly from there with breaks after every four levels, or two hours of play. Unlimited re-entries are available through the end of the second break for each flight, closing at the start of Level 9 (600/1,200/1,200).

All who advance will return Sunday at noon once more to play down to a winner, with levels increasing to 40 minutes in length on Day 2. However, the tournament has only seen around one-third of its Day 2 participants decided at this point, meaning the story is only beginning to be told. Stay right here at PokerNews to see how the next chapters unfold.
