The first event of The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint was the $250 Opener Event, which drew out 115 entrants to play. The prize pool grew to $23,000 and saw 15 players find their way to a cash.

The event eventually came down to just three players, being Ryan Phan, Jeremy Hendricks and Duster Ellis. After some deal talks, Ellis was the one holding the ring in a near even chop between himself, Phan and Hendricks.

Ellis has become a staple of The RunGood Poker series over the past few years he has played it. Making deep runs at many stops, and amassing 24 prior cashes in events all around the country. “It feels good to get the monkey off my back,” Ellis said when referring to the new jewelry he took home after the tournament “so many close calls and it feels good to take one down.

Welcome to The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint Council Bluffs Main Event

Derrick Plumage
Derrick Plumage

After a week of poker tournaments at The Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa, The RunGood Poker Series Checkpoint sees its largest event of the series begin tonight at 6 pm with Day 1a of The $700 Main Event. Boasting the biggest guarantee of the series with $100,000, the main event looks to draw a larger crowd than all the events preceding it, with all parties involved looking for a piece of RGPS history.

Already having made history, but looking for the unheard of three-peat is defending champion Derrick Plumage. Plumage is one of a handful of players who have won multiple RGPS main events, but is the only one to win back to back at the same stop. Winning both iterations of the RGPS Council Bluffs main in 2022 with the $420 Main Event for $51,888 (beating defending champion David Hengen heads up) and the $600 Main Event later for $56,931. He will look to defend his title for a third time this series, likely to play all of the flights.

Players will start out with 30,000, with blinds beginning at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante. The levels will last 30 minutes, with at 15-minute break occurring after every four levels. Registration will close at the beginning of level 9. After that, the breaks will occur after every three levels, with the flight ending once the field has been brought down to 12.5%. This is an unlimited re-entry format, so all players will be able to exercise their rights for re-entry in the first 8 levels of the tournament. Those who do not find bags in the first flight will be able to play the two flights occurring tomorrow.
