Kouichi Goes Runner-Runner

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Every other minute, there is now an all-in and call during the last full level of the registration period in a field which has crossed 320 entries. Kouichi looked up a severe short stack for 3,700 preflop with 1010 and was trailing against JJ. The 974 flop didn't bring much help yet but the 8 turn was suddenly a big sweat, as Kouichi's outs increased to six instead of two. And sure enough, the 6 came on the river and another player was gone with a bad beat story to tell.

Heads-up to the K1033K river, the action checked to Akira and he bet 8,000 for around half of the pot. His opponent check-called and was then shown AK for kings full of treys to secure the pot for one of the bigger stacks in the field.

The cards were all but rushed away and the dealer announced the seat open on table 407 with the chips being pushed to the largest stack, which belongs to Shinya. In a preflop all-in, his AQ was up against 88 and the A6554 runout paired the ace.

Domo Arigato; Mr Roboto

Level 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

It has been common for the local Japanese dealers to announce the all-in and call, and they often mix English with a Japanese twist by adding a few characters to the end of it. One other common version is the word "arigato" which translates to thank you when a player has been eliminated, alerting the floor staff to pick up the seat card.

One such occurrence just happened over on table 408 when Morikawa prevailed with AQ versus A10 in a preflop all-in. The kicker paired on the K64Q2 board to send another player out of the door with said "arigato".

As far as the title of this entry is concerned, that belongs to an old school song from the 1990s by Wamdue Project, with the music title based on the anime series Ghost in the Shell.

Second Break and End of Late

JOPT Grand Final 2025 Trophies
JOPT Grand Final 2025 Trophies

And just like that, the first eight levels have been completed in a hurry and the field has blossomed to at least 365 entries. Only around 185 players remain and have been sent on a scheduled ten-minute break. When the action gets back underway, the registration period for the third and penultimate flight will be closed and all other casualties thereafter will have to try their luck in the turbo heat 1d as of 5 p.m. local time.

If at First; You Don't Succeed ... Try Again

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

katuwo was putting a short stack at risk in a battle of the ace rags and was marginally ahead with A3 versus A2. The Q107710 flop provided the flopped flush, tho.

Soon after, the same player jammed the A4 and was called by katuwo with the K9. The Q729K board delivered two pair.

Yutaka Joins the Larger Stacks

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

There are now several players in the shrinking field which has been corrected to 387 entries and 180 players remaining, and one of them happens to be Yutaka. Already on a large stack for a short while, he opened to 3,000 and earned two callers. His bet on the 642 flop was called one time and he then bet the 9 turn for 6,000 to claim the pot uncontested.

Kota Still Above the Average

Level 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Kota
Kota

In the second hand of the day, Kota lost nearly half of his stack but he has since bounced back nicely and was even on six figures for a short while. That just about changed now when he called the all-in of a short stack with A4 in the blinds, up against A6. The A107J turn made a split pot likely but the 6 river dented Kota's stack.
