Matzinger Flattens Hamm

Level 20 : 8,000/16,000, 16,000 ante
Daniel Hamm
Daniel Hamm

Daniel Hamm was all-in preflop for his last 160,000 from the big blind, and Paul Matzinger had him at risk from middle position.

Daniel Hamm: {9-}{9-}
Paul Matzinger: {3-}{3-}

Matzinger would not be denied, as a {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop gave him a full house and a commanding lead. Hamm couldn't catch up on the {k-Hearts} turn or {a-Hearts} river, and Hamm was eliminated.

Adam Craig Eliminated in 18th Place ($1,982)

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Adam Craig
Adam Craig

Adam Craig jammed for 74,000 from early position, and was called by Paul Matzinger in the small blind and Jose Bermudes in the big blind.

"Oh shit...that's not good for me!" Craig said.

"We'll triple you up!" Bermudes told Craig cheerfully.

The {k-Spades}{6-Spades}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{7-Spades} board was checked down, and Matzinger showed {a-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a rivered flush. "Ship it!" Matzinger said when he saw he has bested both the {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs} of Craig and the {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} of Bermudes to earn the pot and knock out Craig.

Cody Bartlett raised to 45,000 from the button, and Jose Mendoza three-bet shoved for 130,000 in the big blind. Bartlett called.

Jose Mendoza: {k-Hearts}{8-Spades}
Cody Bartlett: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Mendoza wouldn't improve on a {j-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{a-Hearts} runout, and was eliminated.

Henry Gingerich
Henry Gingerich

Henry Gingerich jammed for 141,000 from the hijack, and Paul Matzinger called on the button.

"I didn't want him to call!" Gingerich said to the table.

Henry Gingerich: {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}
Paul Matzinger: {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Gingerich picked up top pair on the {7-Spades}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop, but Matzinger said "There it is!" once the {6-Hearts} fell on the turn, as it gave him a straight. The {k-Clubs} river brought no chop for Gingerich, and he was eliminated.

Arndt Gets a Miracle River to Save His Stack

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Richard Arndt
Richard Arndt

Richard Arndt limped in from under the gun, and Paul Matzinger raised to 75,000 next to act. Arndt three-bet shoved for 300,000, and Matzinger called.

Richard Arndt: {q-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Paul Matzinger: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

Arndt stayed in front on the {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{5-Spades} flop, but once again, a good turn fell for Matzinger, this time in the form of the {k-Hearts}.

Arndt needed a two-outer to stay alive, and the {q-Diamonds} hit the river to provide just that.

"Yes! Wooooo!" a delighted Arndt said, and he looked up to the sky and extended his arms as if in salute of the poker gods themselves. Shawn Stevenson took note of his stance and said, "Savior!" with a chuckle, while Matzinger took the beat in stride and paid off the double.

Barksdale Has the Right Read

Level 21 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Nick Barksdale
Nick Barksdale

Robbie Kent checked a {4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop from the small blind, and Nick Barksdale bet 100,000 into a pot of 180,000 from early position. Zach Davidson called in the hijack, and Kent check-raised all in with a covering stack.

Barksdale, who had 640,000 behind, tanked for two minutes before folding, and Davidson followed suit shortly after.

"Set of fours?" Barksdale asked Kent.

"Makes the most sense." Kent replied. After a moment, Kent then said, "I'll show you," and flipped over {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} for a set of fours.

"Queens?" Kent now asked Barksdale, and Kent replied, "Kings." Kent then turned his attention to Davidson and asked, "What'd you have?"

Davidson had a wry smile on his face before he replied, "I was firmly in third."

Dave Queen Eliminated in 14th Place ($2,392)

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Dave Queen
Dave Queen

Kerry Hildebrand jammed for 360,000 from middle position, and Dave Queen three-bet shoved for 470,000 from the cutoff, chasing out the rest of the field.

Kerry Hildebrand: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Dave Queen: {k-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Hildebrand asked for an ace, and received one immediately on the {2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{a-Clubs} flop to take the lead. Another ace peeled on the {a-Diamonds} turn, and the {10-Diamonds} river was safe for Hildebrand to double up.

One hand later, Queen got his last chips in with {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}, but couldn't catch up to the {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} of Nick Barksdale to bust.

Paul Shelton Eliminated in 13th Place ($2,392)

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Paul Shelton
Paul Shelton

Paul Matzinger limped in from middle position, and Paul Shelton raised to 80,000 on the button. Shawn Stevenson called in the big blind, as did Matzinger.

Action checked to Shelton on a {7-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} flop, and he bet 65,000. Only Stevenson called.

Stevenson bet 225,000 on the {3-Diamonds} turn, and Shelton, who had just 130,000 behind, tanked for two minutes before calling.

Paul Shelton: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Shawn Stevenson: {q-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Shelton needed a king or diamond to survive, but the {8-Hearts} river ended his tournament, instead.

Richard Arndt Eliminated in 12th Place ($2,925)

Level 22 : 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Richard Arndt
Richard Arndt

One hand after the elimination of Paul Shelton, Richard Arndt got his last chips in from the big blind on a {a-}{10-}{7-}{10-}{k-} board with a ten in his hand, but ran smack into the {a-}{a-} of Shawn Stevenson, who check-called the entire way down in the hand, to felt Arndt two spots shy of the final table.
