Welcome to Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs Golden Ticket Main Event

Horseshoe Council Bluffs
Horseshoe Council Bluffs

In "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", possessing a Golden Ticket netted the owner access to a world of pure imagination in the form of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. For players in today's RunGood Poker Series Horseshoe Council Bluffs $420 Golden Ticket Main Event, the goal is not only the top prize in the $40,000 Guaranteed tournament, but a Golden Ticket of their own that will earn them access to an exclusive tournament in December.

Players in today's Day 1a flight will begin with 20,000 in tournament chips, and once the action kicks off at 10 a.m. CST, blinds will start at 100/100 and increase every 30 minutes through Level 12. The final three levels scheduled for the evening will be 45 minutes in length, and play will conclude at the end of Level 15 or under the Tournament Director's discretion, whichever comes first. Players may re-enter and late register up through the break at Level 8. One final flight will begin Saturday, November 12th at 10 a.m., and survivors from the two starting flights will reconvene on Sunday, November 13th at 10 a.m. to play down to a champion.

That champion will earn the aforementioned Golden Ticket, which gives them a coveted seat in the RGPS All-Stars ProAm on December 11th and 12th. The inaugural RGPS: All-Star ProAm event will take place inside the PokerGO Studio at ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the 64-player field will include 32 players that qualified at various events throughout the RGPS season (including three more qualifiers during this series), along with 32 invited players that include celebrities, streamers, and poker industry members. All of the action will be streamed on PokerGo, as well, so players looking to make their mark in front of a viewing audience will be looking to nab one of the last Golden Tickets to be handed out before the ProAm gets underway.

PokerNews will be on hand all weekend long with all the action from Horseshoe Council Bluffs, so be sure to stay tuned as one of the last All-Stars ProAm seats is handed out in this weekend's Main Event!

Fredlund Starts Off With the Nuts

Steve Fredlund

A player limped in from early position, and the cutoff raised to 300. RecPoker Founder Steve Fredlund called on the button, as did the early-position limper.

Action checked to Fredlund on a {j-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{7-Spades} flop, and he bet 400. Both of his opponents called.

Action checked through the {6-Hearts} turn, and the {8-Hearts} fell on the river. The early-position player bet 200, and the cutoff folded. Fredlund raised to 500, and the early-position player called.

"Nuts," Fredlund said, tabling {10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}. The early-position player showed a defeated {k-}{j-}, and Fredlund took down the early pot.

Baime Fires in a Big Bet

Kenneth Baime

There was already over 9,000 in the pot and a complete {3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board on the felt when the small blind checked over to Kenneth Baime in middle position. Baime took a large chunk of his remaining chips and put them into one column before pushing them across the felt, a bet of 8,200.

The small blind went into the tank for a few minutes, saying "Sorry guys!" at one point. Shortly after, he announced a fold and flashed the {q-Diamonds} from his hand. Baime mucked face-down and took down the pot.

Carman Building Early; Strohm in the House

Paul Strohm
Paul Strohm

At a table with Paul Strohm, who was part of the eleven-way chop at the previous RunGood Poker Series Main Event here at Horseshoe Council Bluffs in June, Stan Carman raised to 400 from the hijack, and was called by the cutoff as well as the big blind.

The big blind checked a {7-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop to Carman, who bet 800. Only the hijack called.

Carman fired another 1,200 bullet on the {j-Clubs} turn, and that did the trick as the hijack folded.

South Dakota's Mark Fink Looking For His Golden Ticket

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Mark Fink
Mark Fink

Spotted in the field in yesterday's $250 Black Chip Bounty Kickoff Event, Mark Fink has made quite a name for himself in the Midwest with over a decade of accomplishments in poker, and Fink is here at Horseshoe Council Bluffs to try and gain more ground on taking over the top spot on South Dakota's all-time tournament earnings list.

Currently in third-place on the Hendon Mob database for South Dakotans, behind William Eichel and Michael Moore, Fink has earned over $517,000 in his lengthy career. His biggest live cash was in 2016, when he finished runner-up at MSPT Grand Falls for $31,323. Fink's biggest claim to fame, however, is the impressive five WSOP Circuit Rings that he's earned, which puts him in some rarified air, as one of just forty-five players over the course of the WSOP Circuit's history to accumulate at least five rings. His most recent ring came in 2019 at the WSOPC event here at Horseshoe Council Bluffs, when he won $15,525 for winning Event #6: $400 NLHE (Six-Handed).

Fink has had success in prior RunGood Events here previously, with a win in a $200 PLO Rebuy event for $3,114 in 2015. Will Fink be able to navigate another big field and earn a Golden Ticket to the All-Stars ProAm? We'll be keeping tabs on one of South Dakota's finest poker players throughout the Main Event to find out.

Kim Kilroy
Kim Kilroy

A player checked a {j-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop from under the gun, and Kim Kilroy bet 3,000 into a pot of 6,900 next to act. The hijack called, as did the under-the-gun player.

The under-the-gun player checked again on the {2-Hearts} turn, and Kilroy bet 5,000. Both the hijack and the under-the-gun player called again.

The {k-Spades} completed the board on the river, and the under-the-gun player checked a third time. Kilroy jammed for 8,100, and the hijack went into the tank. After some pained deliberation, the hijack folded, and the under-the-gun player quickly followed suit.

Mark Fink had his last 14,500 in from the big blind on a {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Clubs} board, and John Ace was in the tank from under the gun.

"I don't know if I can fold this," Ace told Fink at one point. Eventually, he slammed in a call.

Mark Fink: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}
John Ace: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Fink was standing up before the {j-Hearts} could fall on the river, and Fink was eliminated, while Ace doubled up.

Danny Pigago
Danny Pigago

Danny Pigago bet 1,500 on a {4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop from middle position, and his opponent in the cutoff made the call.

Pigago fired 2,500 on the {a-Diamonds} turn, and the cutoff made another quick call.

The {7-Spades} completed the board on the river, and Pigago jammed for 6,700. The cutoff flicked in a single chip to call, but mucked after Pigago showed {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for aces-up, good for the Pigago double.
