The Battle of Minnesotans

Level 6 : 300/600, 600 ante
Jonathan Kim
Jonathan Kim

A short-stacked Jonathan Kim was all in and at risk in the big blind against Meng Veng in early position.

Jonathan Kim: {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Meng Vang: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}

Kim was drawing dead by the turn of a {6-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{9-Spades} runout, and was eliminated.

"Many more battles to come," Vang told Kim, who responded with "I'll see you tomorrow; actually, I'll see you Sunday!"

Lowery Punishes the Limpers

Level 5 : 200/400, 400 ante
Daniel Lowery
Daniel Lowery

Four players limped in to the pot, and Daniel Lowery chose to exercise his option in the big blind, raising to 2,400. A player in middle position and the hijack both called, while everyone else folded.

Lowery bet 3,600 on a {j-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{8-Hearts} flop, and only the middle-position player called.

Both players checked down the {6-Spades} turn and {k-Diamonds} river, and the middle-position player said, "I just have an eight," tabling {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Lowery rolled over {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} for top pair, top kicker, and took down the pot.

Fink Fears No Quads

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mark Fink
Mark Fink

A player checked an {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop from middle position, and Mark Fink checked back next to act.

The middle-position player checked again on the {9-Hearts} turn, and Fink bet 2,000 into a pot of 3,600, which the middle-position player called.

The {a-Diamonds} fell on the river, and the middle-position player led out for 3,500. Fink responded with a raise to 10,000, and the middle-position player went into the tank. After a minute, he folded, and Fink showed his opponent {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} before scooping in the pot.

Nuwwarah's Nut Flush Earns a Needed Dub

Level 4 : 200/300, 300 ante
Mo Nuwwarah
Mo Nuwwarah

There was already a pot of 8,000 built up and a {4-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts} board on the felt, when a player in middle position checked over to Mo Nuwwarah next to act. Nuwwarah gathered up his remaining 4,900 into a single column and stuck them in the middle.

"Call," the middle-position player said instantly.

Nuwwarah tabled {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for the nut flush, and his opponent mucked.

Dick Saved By the River

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Craig Dick
Craig Dick

A player raised to 600 from middle position, and Bryan Skreens called in the small blind. Craig Dick three-bet to 2,200 in the big blind, and both the middle-position player and Skreens called.

Skreens checked the {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop to Dick, who quickly fired out 6,000. The middle-position player then jammed for 24,600, and Skreens, who looked bemused at the situation, tanked for a bit before folding. Dick quickly called off his last 23,000.

Craig Dick: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Opponent: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

Dick's Big Slick had been cracked by the flopped Broadway straight of the middle-position player, and while the {4-Clubs} turn provided no help, the {q-Hearts} river gave both players a straight, prompting a quick, "Chop it up!" from Dick.

Lowery In the House

Level 2 : 100/100, 100 ante
Daniel Lowery
Daniel Lowery

RunGood Pro Daniel Lowery is no stranger to success at the tables, and Arkansas' all-time leader in live tournament earnings (more than $2 million to date) has taken his seat in today's huge Day 1a flight in hopes of navigating his way to another RunGood Poker Series Final Table.

In a recent hand, after a player opened to 400 from under the gun, Lowery, who also boasts nine WSOPC rings to his credit, called on the button, as did the big blind. Lowery bet 500 on the {7-Spades}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop after being checked to, and only the under-the-gun player called. The {k-Diamonds} turn and {j-Diamonds} river were checked down, and Lowery mucked after the under-the-gun player tabled {j-Spades}{10-Clubs} for a rivered pair of tens.

Birney on the Right Side of a Cooler

Level 1 : 100/100, 0 ante
Tony Birney
Tony Birney

A player in the cutoff had 2,300 in front of him, and was contemplating the four-bet to 6,600 from Tony Birney in early position.

"Aces?" the cutoff asked Birney. Without getting a response, the cutoff jammed and Birney quickly called off his 18,100 chip stack.

Tony Birney: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}

Birney did indeed have aces, and no king came on a {j-Spades}{2-Spades}{10-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{j-Clubs} runout to preserve Birney's double.
