The 2019 Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series continued on Tuesday with the $560 Deeper Stack NLH.

On Monday’s Day 1a, 124 runners took to the felt and only 25 survived the flight. Leading the pack with a stack of 778,000 was Pierrot Massenat, followed by Johann Tiemann (510,000) and Ricardo Eyzaguirre (433,000). Others to bag and tag were Erik Christensen (257,000), Ofer Peleg (219,000), Elliott Zaydman (123,000), Derrick Rose (91,000), and Ariel Quintana (47,000).

On Tuesday, another 179 entrants took to the felt to bring the number up to 303 entries, though that could go up as late registration is open until the start of play on Day 2. After 14 levels of play 39 bagged and tagged with Rick Kalgstein and his stack of 502,000 out in front.

Monster Pot Goes to Kalgstein

Level 14 : 2,000/3,000, 3,000 ante

A preflop raising war resulted in Steven Bennett getting his stack of roughly 150,000 all in preflop and way behind Rick Kalgstein.

Kalgstein: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Bennett: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Bennett was in a world of hurt and the {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop didn't do him any favors. The {k-Diamonds} turn kept him drawing live but he missed when the {7-Clubs} bricked the river.

Yorra Mitigates Damage Against Bennett in Set-Over-Set Hand

Level 11 : 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

After Robert Transue raised to 4,000 from middle position and Matt Yorra called from the cutoff, Steven Bennett three-bet to 14,000 from the button. Both blinds folded, Transue got out of the way, and Yorra called to see a {j-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop.

Yorra check-called a bet of 17,000 and then check-called one of 25,000 on the {10-Diamonds} turn.

When the {a-Spades} completed the board on the river, Yorra checked for the third time.

"I think I have the winner but I'm gonna check back," Bennett said before showing the {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} for a flopped set. Yorra then showed the {2-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for an inferior flopped set.

"You've Been Too Lucky"

Level 10 : 500/1,500, 1,500 ante
Mike Newman
Mike Newman

The under-the-gun player raised to 3,500 and Mike Newman, who was next to act, made the call. Thomas Gari called from the small blind, the player in the big came along, and it was four-way action to the {j-Clubs}{a-Spades}{9-Hearts} flop.

Gari was first to act and led out for 7,000. Only Newman called and the dealer burned and turned the {6-Diamonds}.

Gari slowed down with a check and Newman bet 15,000.

"You've been too lucky," Gari said before folding and showing the {a-Clubs}. Newman smiled and then flashed just his {a-Hearts}.

Two years ago, this very event attracted 434 entries and saw Orlando’s Jeffrey Trudeau, Jr. emerge victorious to capture the title for $49,148. At the time, Trudeau was a 23-year-old professional poker player who had taken down six events prior to his Deeper Stack victory. His seventh win moved him over $400k in lifetime tournament earnings.

Others to cash the tournament were Steve McKoy (19th - $1,345), Ory Hen (33rd - $1,194) and Almog Biton (37th - $1,085), who had won it the year before. Also earning a payout was Daren Stabinski. After a 48th-place finish in the $360 Deep Stack and a runner-up finish in the $150 Deep Stack, his 44th-place finish in the $560 Deeper Stack marked his third cash in as many events.

Welcome to Day 1b of the $560 The Deeper Stack

Seminole Hard Rock
Seminole Hard Rock

The second premiere event in Seminole Hard Rock May Deep Stack Poker Series is upon us. The second of two starting flights in the $560 buy-in The Deeper Stack will get underway at 11 a.m. EDT.

Players will start with 40,000 in chips in that tournament and play 40-minute levels through Level 14. Levels 15-26 will last 60 minutes each with Levels 27+ will switch to 90 minutes. Heads-up play will revert to 40-minute levels.

The plan for today is to play through Level 14. Late registration and unlimited re-entries will be allowed until the start of Day 2. Like the Deep Stack, this is not a best-stack forward event.

The winner of the tournament will also receive an added $1,650 Main Event seat.

Last year, Chanpiseth Keam prevailed over a 432-entry field to win the Deeper Stack for $37,991. The year before that, Jeffrey Trudeau Jr. topped a 434-entry field to win it for $49,148, while Almog Biton topped a 452-entry field to win it in 2016 for $57,746.
