Gierlinger Finds a Double Through Block

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Eric Gierlinger opened with a preflop raise and it folded to Rick Block who made it 30,000 from the button. Action folded to Gierlinger and he called to see a flop.

The dealer fanned {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} on the felt and Gierlinger checked. Block announced an all in bet and Gierlinger called for his tournament life of 88,000.

Gierlinger: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Block: {A-Spades}{7-Clubs}

Gierlinger was far out in front with top pair and secured a double after the turn ({3-Hearts}) and river ({7-Hearts}) finished off the board.

Short-Stack Survival Continues

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

Eric Gierlinger raised to 12,000 from middle position, Jeff Joseph three-bet to 19,500 from the hijack, and Tom Urbanski cold four-bet shoved for 69,500 from the cutoff. Gierlinger folded, and Joseph paused before making the call.

Urbanski: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Joseph: {5-Spades}{7-Spades}

Joseph was caught in a bad spot but said he was priced in to call Urbanski's shove. The {A-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{3-Spades} board provided no help to Joseph, and Urbanski took down a nice pot.

Rick Block Doubles Huge Through Chris Myers

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante

The board read {10-Spades}{6-Spades}{q-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and with somewhere around 70,000 already in the middle, Chris Myers fired out a bet of 18,000. Rick Block responded by moving all in for 219,500 total which sent Myers deep into the tank.

Several minutes passed while Myers contemplated his action. Eventually, he grabbed a tower of chips and pushed it forward, signifying a call.

Block tabled {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} for a Broadway straight which was crushing Myers' {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} for top pair and an open-ended straight draw.

"Deuce!" shouted Block as the dealer burned for the river card. It was not a deuce on the river, but rather a {3-Clubs} with the same significance. Block's straight secured him a double up to around 525,000 while Myers fell to about 115,000.

Demmerley Takes Chip Lead

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Picking up with the action on the turn, the board read {4-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{8-Clubs}. Budway Salhab, Chris Myers, and Art Demmerley each committed 50,000 on the flop in unknown action.

Salhab checked the turn and Myers followed suit. Demmerley announced an all in bet and Salhab folded. Myers went into the tank for a moment before also releasing his hand. Demmerley scooped up the pot and has assumed the chip lead.

Olshan Doubles Again

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Sharman Olshan, the only lady remaining in the tournament, just doubled through Budway Salhab to survive and avoid the dreaded money bubble. After Salhab opened to 10,000 from middle position, Olshan shoved for 42,000 from the hijack. Action folded back to Salhab and he snap-called.

Olshan: {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Salhab: {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}

Salhab was calling for a chop after the {8-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} flop, but Olshan secured the double-up when the {3-Hearts} and {5-Clubs} arrived on the turn and river, respectively.

Myers Takes From Gierlinger

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Eric Gierlinger opened to 10,000 from early position and found a three-bet to 22,500 from Chris Myers. Action folded back to Gierlinger who called the raise.

The two saw a flop of {a-Spades}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs} and both players checked. The {6-Spades} brought a third spade on the turn and Gierlinger checked. Myers fired out 20,000 and Gierlinger called.

The board paired sevens with the {7-Diamonds} on the river which prompted Gierlinger to move 35,000 forward. Myers called and Gierlinger meekly rolled over {3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} before tossing the cards to the muck. Myers showed {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} for top pair and dragged in the pot.

Knight Loses Armor; Unofficial Final Table Reached

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Josh Knight
Josh Knight

Josh Knight moved all in for 45,000 with {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} but found himself up against Art Demmerley's {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}. The dealer rolled out the {3-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} board, and Knight exited the tournament area. The other 10 players made their way to the unofficial 10-handed final table. Demmerley has already been there once this week; he won Event #1 on Monday.

The unofficial final table also brings us to the money bubble. The top nine finishers will take home a minimum of $1,397, with the eventual winner receiving $11,765.
