Mandeep Chahal Leads Day 1b of Seneca Fall Poker Classic Main Event

The 2014 Seneca Fall Poker Classic continued Saturday with Flight B of the $1,000 Main Event, which carries a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. The guarantee was met and then surpassed as the second starting flight attracted 164 entries, bringing the total to 263 for the tournament. The eventual winner will take home $57,736.

Only 42 advanced in Day 1b, and leading the way at the end of the night was Mandeep Chahal with 244,500. He was joined at the top of the leaderboard by Rob Davis, Greg Miller, Ryan Rivers and Shooter Stracuzzi.

Dan Wagner, who finished third in the Seneca Summer Slam Main Event in July, also bagged a healthy stack of 169,200 on Saturday night. He picked up a huge pot midway through the day to boost him over 100,000 in chips. Wagner, Ray Book and another player saw {3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop and checked. Book bet 4,200 and the player on the button called. Wagner then check-raised to 11,400, sending Book into the tank for more than a minute before he tossed his cards. The other player moved all in for about 7,500 more and Wagner snapped him off.

Button: {4-Clubs}{4-Spades}

The {J-Spades} turn and {Q-Diamonds} river secured the double for Wagner, who continued building throughout the day. Wagner later told us that he also busted Buck Ramsay, the Summer Slam Main Event champ who coincidentally eliminated Wagner in third place in that tournament. Wagner is in good position to reach his second straight Main Event final table here in Niagara Falls.

Among the other notables who advanced to Day 2 were Vincent Palma, DJ MacKinnon, Rob Bourkney and Lou Tomassi.

Several of the area's top players weren't so fortunate. Defending champ Andy Spears fired five $1,000 bullets into this tournament and was unable to advance, and he was joined on the rail by Jason Nablo, Travell Thomas, Sonny Rattan and Maria Parlatore, among others.

A total of 65 players will return Sunday at noon ET to play down to a champion. Be sure to follow PokerNews for the exciting conclusion of the Seneca Fall Poker Classic Main Event!

William Ho is the new chip leader after taking down a massive pot against Sam DeSabio.

The player in Seat 1 opened to 1,700 from early position and Ryan Rivers (cutoff), DeSabio (button and Ho (big blind) called.

The dealer fanned the {6-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop and action checked to DeSabio, who bet 3,400. Ho called, and the player in Seat 1 check-raised to 10,000. Rivers mucked and DeSabio responded with a three-bet to 33,400. Ho quickly announced all in and the other player got out of the way. DeSabio pondered his options for a minute before committing his stack.

DeSabio: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}

Ho turned the big blind special into gold with his flopped straight and he managed to hod up through the {2-Spades} turn and {A-Diamonds} river. DeSabio was eliminated.

Tomassi "Gambles" to Win Massive Pot

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Lou Tomassi

On a flop of {A-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}, Sharman Olshan fired a continuation bet worth 3,000 and Lou Tomassi called. Blake Napierala then shoved for 27,025, and Olshan took little time before making the call. Tomassi then went into the tank for several minutes.

"To gamble or not to gamble," Tomassi said as he stood up from his seat.

He decided to gamble after a clock was called on him, calling the bet and leaving around 25,000 behind in his stack. The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and Olshan immediately moved all in. Tomassi called, and a crowd gathered to check out the hands.

Napierala: {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Olshan: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}
Tomassi: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

Napierala was ahead with his two pair, but he had to fade a king or a club to win the huge pot. The dealer rolled over the {3-Clubs} and Tomassi yelled in celebration as his flush took down the entire pot, eliminating Olshan and Napierala in the process.
