With registration and re-entry now officially closed for all six flights, the days of the Niagara Falls Poker Room's perfect track record in exceeding its guarantees is over.
With 161 entries tonight bringing the total up to 594, there will be a small overlay. The players put $47,520 in the prize pool and the room will now have to kick in an extra $2,480 to meet the $50,000 guarantee.
Fear not though, as the staff here appear happy to juice up the local poker economy with a few thousand bucks and the entry fees collected will more than cover it.
The Niagara Falls Room will now look forward to starting another guarantee-exceeding streak with the beginning of the $200,000 Guaranteed $1,000 Seneca Fall Poker Classic Main Event this Friday.
James Miller has jumped in the lead on 120,000 now.
First he made trip sixes on an ace-high board, getting all of one over-eager player's stack with . Soon after, he got it in with on a jack-high flop with two diamonds versus Bruce Pace.
He said he was banking on Pace having a speculative hand, which is usually a good bet. When he was wrong and Pace had , Miller was forced to rely on the turn to make two pair and double up into the top spot on the chip counts.
Buffalo, NY local Dan Bohen looks poised to bag a big stack.
He got it in with a set of ten's versus on a gutshot draw and held. Then he flopped the joint all-in three-ways with the versus and when the flop came .
That held as well, and despite dropping some 30,000 into a pot making two pair against a straight, he's still got a healthy stack heading into the late levels.
Fortunes can change fast around the Niagara Falls Poker Room.
Scott Aitchison is out after losing a flip with versus pocket jacks. He busted in rather brutal fashion, flopping an ace to take the lead, only to go broke on a river .
In the meantime, Nick Walker somehow got edged out in the draw for the Sabres tickets with Brian Bartoe strangely sent on a dinner break right before the draw was conducted.
Walker was considering a petition to redraw, but instead, he's run up a few big blinds into 50,000 now into the last two levels of the night.
