Shayne Shackelford

The 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge Event 5: $25,000 Guaranteed $50 No-Limit Hold'em will play down
to a winner today.

Over six Day 1 starting flights the event drew a huge 1,026 entries and re-entries, absolutely smashing the $25,000 guarantee.

Now, just 119 remain in the hunt for the title.

When play resumes at 12 p.m. local time they will all be looking up at Shayne Shackelford, who built a massive 520,000-chip stack on Day 1d.

No other player will come in with more than 200,000, although Day 1f leader Kyle Badger is close on 199,300.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the poker room floor throughout keeping you up to date on all the action until a champion emerges.

McKeever Finds The Flush

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Mike McKeever
Mike McKeever

Mike McKeever is sitting just to the left of start-of-day chip leader Shayne Shackelford and now has a stack to battle him with.

McKeever got it in with {k-Spades}{q-Spades} on the turn of a board with two aces, two spades and a ten against Dominick Muto holding {a-}{j-}.

The river came a spade and with Shackelford dipping down under 400,000, McKeever is now neck-in-neck with him for the chip lead.

New Man In Charge

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 500 ante
Brandon Louvier
Brandon Louvier

Brandon Louvier has jumped into the chip lead after taking a huge pot off Shayne Shackelford with a very lucky river card.

Louvier called Shackelford's three-bet all in on the turn for some 200,000 holding {a-Diamonds}{j-Spades} on a {j-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Spades} board. Shackelford was ahead with {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for two pair.

But that changed drastically after the {a-Spades} river gave Louvier two bigger pair and now the chip lead.

Shayne Shackelford's collapse is now complete.

It's Getting Hot in Here

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Kyle Badger
Kyle Badger

Tensions are rising as each pot takes on more significance.

In the meantime, the room was hushed as Kyle Badger just leapfrogged Mike McKeever on the chip counts.

McKeever raised it up and Badger defended his big blind going heads up to an {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. Both players checked and Badger checked again on the {6-Hearts} turn. McKeever led out for 35,000 and Badger flatted.

Badger checked again on the {2-Spades} river, but when McKeever bet 100,000, he pushed all in.

McKeever scowled and folded.

Jeff Klein
Jeff Klein

Jeff Klein has moved into the chip lead after a flurry of action.

First he pushed all in pushing Peter Craniotis off a 200,000 pot on an {a-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop. Then he busted Mike Boncore flopping a set of eights against his top pair aces.

Klein even managed to make quads on the river.

Randy Pfeifer
Randy Pfeifer

Randy Pfeifer has skyrocketed into the chip lead and is closing in on the one-million chip mark now.

Pfeifer told PokerNews most of the chips were collected without showdown, including one hand where he picked up kings and pushed all in preflop after a series of raises, forcing a fold. His opponent showed jacks.

Level 20 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Peter Craniotis
Peter Craniotis

Heading into the break Peter Craniotis made it 45,000 from the button and Tom Law defended his big blind.

The flop fell {k-Clubs}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} and Law checked. Craniotis made it 60,000 and Law pushed for 250,000 more.

Craniotis called with {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and Law was on the flush draw with {9-Spades}{2-Spades}. Somehow, ace-high held and Craniotis moved into the top spot on the chip counts.

Another River

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Brandon Louvier
Brandon Louvier

Brandon Louvier made it 150,000 to go before Gary Espinosa pushed all in having him covered.

Louvier tank-called with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and was well behind Espinosa's {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}.

The {j-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} flop was safe for Espinosa and Louvier looked all but dead after the {2-Spades} turn before suddenly spiking a set on the {8-Diamonds} river to come back to life.
