Travell Thomas
Travell Thomas

With cashes in tournaments all over the map adding up to more than $450,000 in earnings, including two ring wins on the WSOP Circuit, Travell Thomas is widely considered one of the best tournament players in the Buffalo, NY area.

The boisterous Thomas would be the first to tell you that too.

Grinding it out here in this $25,000 Guaranteed event, Thomas is off to his usually quick start having doubled up already. He ran {a-}{k-} into {j-}{j-} and managed to fill up to stack the player on his left.

Stranger Than Fiction

Level 4 : 100/200, 0 ante

Derby, NY's Jim Bucki found a strange way to triple up moments ago.

He called all in on a flop with two diamonds thinking he had the nut flush draw - only he didn't.

"I thought I had two diamonds," he said. "Only that was last hand."

However, his {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades} was the best hand up against one player with the {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flush draw and another holding {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for the gutterball. Blanks on the turn and the river kept Bucki's ace-high ahead and he tripled up to a little more than double the starting stack.

Sam DeSabio
Sam DeSabio

Buffalo's own Sam DeSabio picked up kings early on and managed to pick off one player bluffing three streets with a gutshot.

Since then he's picked up pot after pot on the way to building a stack three times what he started with and good enough for a spot among the early leaders.

Triple Figures

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Entry and re-entry is available until the start of the 13th level, meaning Day 1b is well on its way to surpassing the 113 entries Day 1a drew this morning.

Jeffrey Joseph

Jeffrey Joseph made quad threes early on to drag a 27,000-chip pot.

Since then he's out-kicked one top pair junkie and out-raced {k-}{q-} with {7-}{7-} to pull in even more loot on his way to building a chip leading stack.

Randy Lingenfelter is back at the cage firing another bullet after giving all his chips to West Seneca's Jim Widmer.

Facing a Lingenfelter raise, Widmer shipped it in on a {j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{6-Spades} board with a healthy pot already in the middle.

Lingenfelter made the crying call with {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and needed help against Widmer's {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts} nut flush. Needless to say, none came.

Sam DeSabio's big night rolls on here after he responded to a 1,200-chip open from a player in late position by making it 3,100 from the button.

His opponent called and they went heads up to a {9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} flop.

The late position raise-caller jammed in, but got snap-called by DeSabio on {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}. He held {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and a ticket to ride or re-enter after the {k-Hearts}{5-Spades} run out.
