Jeremy O'Brien
Jeremy O'Brien

The second starting flight of the 2015 Western New York Poker Challenge Event #5: $50 No-Limit Hold'em event is done with 17 players pushing through to Day 2.

Jeremy O'Brien built a big stack early and kept stacking on the way to a chip count of 182,000 and the end-of-day chip lead.

The flight drew a total 136 entries, dwarfing the 113 from the Day 1a session that saw 13 players go through. With a total of 249 entries so far, the event is well on it's way to making the $25,000 Guarantee.

Survivors from both flights will return for Day 2 Thursday at 12 p.m. local time to play down to a winner.

In the meantime, Tuesday and Wednesday will see four more starting flights beginning with Day 1c tomorrow at 11 a.m. local time.

As usual, the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be here to keep you up to date on all the action as it happens.

Bark at the Moon

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Alex Barker is out after shoving {a-}{q-} and getting the call from Jeffrey Joseph on {j-}{j-}.

The {9-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board did the trick and they are now just one elimination from suspending play for the day.

Color Up

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

The players have been given a five-minute break to allow the tournament staff to color up the 100 chips.

Wish Come True

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Jeffrey Joseph and Travell Thomas both had their wish granted, doubling and tripling back to decent sized stacks.

First Joseph got it in with nines against queens preflop and flopped a set. Then Thomas got it in with {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} against {4-Clubs}{4-Spades} and {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs} preflop, found a five on the flop and held.

Shorties Shove

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Short stacks Travell Thomas and Jeffrey Joseph have been moved to the same table and appear to be taking turns shipping it in.

So far these attempts to either double back into contention or go home have failed with both getting no callers and simply picking up the blinds and antes.
